    As a young man in the states in his twenties that is not a Catholic I found this show extremely powerful. It had me laughing at some points, it had me frightful at some points. It made me extremely sad and it made me so moved with joy to the point of tears. It's a philosophical and cinematic masterpiece. The show dares to ask questions that no one else has the courage to ask. It goes far beyond the threshold of creativity.

      I LAUD him for being extremely conservative. Extreme conservatism is a healthy, orderly, righteous way to order society. Why does the modern church constantly fail? Because it abandoned moral conviction for petty nonsense like freedom or sentimentality.

    • @quirked504
      @quirked504 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Some of these comments are strange to me. Part of Pius' conservative agenda is renouncing homosexuality, but the show seems to be pretty clear in its implicit commentary that Pius' attempts to exclude gay people was a moral failure on his part. The freedom to love isn't "petty" or "sentimental," and I don't know how anyone can square the belief that it is with the teachings of Christ or the message of this series. The show also seems to suggest that Pius' conservatism is only a small part of his nature, which the show again and again emphasizes is "contradictory." When Brannox becomes Pope John Paul III, he welcomes in outsiders and seems to define the church as the artifice of the misunderstood, and when Pius reemerges from his coma, he praises John Paul for doing this. This is an amazing show because it is so complex and multidimensional - it never spells out what it wants you to take away from it. But I feel like you have to ignore so much of the show to walk away with the message that "extreme" conservatism is what makes a righteous society.

      “Mother Teresa was not a friend of the poor. She was a friend of poverty. She said that suffering was a gift from God. She spent her life opposing the only known cure for poverty, which is the empowerment of women and the emancipation of them from a livestock version of compulsory reproduction.
      Many more people are poor and sick because of the life of Mother Teresa. Even more will be poor and sick if her example is followed. She was a fanatic, a fundamentalist, and a fraud, and a church that officially protects those who violate the innocent has given us another clear sign of where it truly stands on moral and ethical questions.” - Christopher Hitchens

      A good work would have been using the many millions she was given to build a world class hospital that provided real treatment and palliative care. Instead she allowed the sick to lay in pain, suffer, and die without as much as an aspirin. Meanwhile, she flew to Switzerland on a private jet for HER medical care. She used those millions to buy reliquaries and make more little nuns just like her (many of whom left her order when they realized what she really was).

      The Pope was on a visit to a mission run by sisters in Africa, and was tipped off by a local priest during the visit about the horrible things Sister Antonia was doing to get more water for herself etc... so that was his way of letting her know that he knows about the evil things she did, and condemning her for her crimes (basically)

  • @LifeInPink999

      I think the plot is that Sister Antonia was controlling the water supply of the site, and using it as leverage to control the rest of the mission. The black priest earlier confided this to the Pope. Pope is calling her out, and I think the black priest was making a statement by smashing his empty bowl.

      Sister Antonia is hoarding water from her people and working with a UN-declared dictator (Prince Abadi). People are licking water off of the sides of a condensation chamber and getting beaten half to death with it, while Sister Antonia secretly has a fridge full of ice cold water in her domicile. Pope Pius knows this at this point, but Antonia does not know that he does.
