THE ONLY REASONS any reverence is given to the Pope is because of whose steward/vicar he is: the Resurrected Christ. No the "Orthodox" Church is a schismatic church that broke off from Rome in 1054. The Eastern Catholic Churches are sui iuris (of one's own right) meaning they are in communion with Rome but have different liturgies, traditions and customs. No the "Orthodox" Church is a schismatic church that broke off from Rome in 1054. The Eastern Catholic Churches are sui iuris (of one's own right) meaning they are in communion with Rome but have different liturgies, traditions and customs. The Byzantine churches such as the Greek Catholic church are more similar to "Orthodox" liturgies.
They would be considered byzantine Catholic. Coming from Eastern Orthodoxy returning to Catholicism. I belong to the ordinariot which is Anglicans who have done the same thing.

Being Orthodox, I find it interesting that an Orthodox composer represents Catholic tradition. I knew a priest who taught Religion at a Catholic school in the 1970's simply because he was the most "Catholic" teacher, not withstanding differences on Papal infallibility and such.

Austin McMahon I know this is super late but I thought I would mention that yes Our Lord did wash His disciples feet, and because of this the pope actually washes the feet of catholic faithful every year on Holy Thursday. He is also known as the “Servant of the Servants of God.” It is the office of Pope which receives honour and respect not the person holding the office.

Throughout this entire series, the young pope really needed a punch in the mouth. He was so totally in love with himself and walked around with a "Who the hell are you?" attitude. It was just too much.
