Not only learned about a new plant but also a cool factoid that bees will overwinter in hollow plant stems if the opening is exposed. Thank you for a great video packed with practical information and no hype.
Nice work Cathy! I love the way you document the whole season, very helpful! I subscribed, I know that being in south PA zone 7(ish) ...whatever you're growing, so can I! I wonder if I could head off the main stem before the flower stems pop out, to keep it shorter?
Sea holly is so beautiful 🌸 I used to grow one plant in a pot and then I planted it into the garden and the roots were eaten by voles. When I get hold of one again I will leave it in a container. Thank you very much for sharing 👍
I bought a pack recently. Just planted them last week and they are up already with those little rounded leaves. I had no idea they would get as big as your video shows. I have them both in pots currently but would love to put them into the ground by my garden eventually
I had this plant and Russian Sage years back and am growing both from seed this year and quite excited to have them again. They should love the sandy arid garden we have. Yes, pollinators love those multi petaled flowers.
@@CEGNatives Very expensive floral arrangements at that! I didn’t know what it was. I’m going to plant some of this unusual plant. Thank you for a very nice presentation.
@@CEGNatives I guess if it's far enough away the smell won't permeate the area, don't know . I love the way this plant looks but the smell issue is the only reason I haven't purchased seeds. good luck!!
I will never plant this again. It is like a weed. Lots of baby plants came up the next year. Very large tap root in a short amount of time. Never again
Thanks for commenting. I deadhead mine before they go to seed. Have only had 4 new plants in 2 years. I find thistles to be "love 'em or hate 'em" plants.
Exactly the same here! I did move some last year and thought I’d cleared it all to make space for a rose garden. Nope. It grows deep. I was back in there today trying to get the last of it out so I can enrich the soil over winter here. I think it will be a life long struggle. I moved the roots last year to where my echium is as that is “blue” corner.. at least that’s the plan. But where I want to move my roses too? It’s going to be a struggle.

Thank you so much for the comment. Yes, you can cut it back to control the height.

Thanks for the video. Do they do well in containers
Thanks for commenting. I have never tried it in a container.
I have this plant you call a sea holly, (not the name on tag) it's growing in a pot , kinda neat looking, doesn't bloom for very long.
Thanks for commenting
I’ve seen this in professional floral arrangements.
Thanks for commenting. I didn't know it was used in floral arrangements.

Thanks for commenting. I haven't noticed any odor from mine yet.

@@CEGNativesit’s not the seed.
It’s the root.
