    The first time I tried this I found the rinsing step to be a huge pain, especially when making several jars. Then I thought, I’m going to sterilize in the pressure cooker anyway, so why rinse in the first place. The next time I just put the proper amount of ingredients directly into jars, shook, added water, and 90 min at 15 PSI. Worked great. No simmer, No rinse grain spawn.

    What should be the humidity inside jars of grain in which the mycelium grows after being mixed with a spore suspension? It seems to me that your grains are a little dry. Is it possible to inject sterile water through a syringe? What if you add sugar and vitamins to the water? will this speed up growth?

    So good to hear you, Willy. I am forever grateful because I can grow 'cubes because of you. Have you read Merlin Sheldrake's latest book? Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds and Shape Our Futures. The Tree Of Life that the actual scientific terminology is based on has changed and Fungi are now associated with plants to the point that Plants as we know them can not exist without Fungi. For instance: Lichens are a symbiotic relationship existing across 2 different species; An fungi and an algae. It is a mutualistic relationship that can produce numerous benefits to humans. Also tree roots can not assimilate their required nutrition without the help of fungi. This scenario plays out all along the history of plants. Thank You Willy, I would be so much more ignorant without what you have given me.

    I started with this tech & rye. In my experience it's great. Perfect every time. But the only downside I found was each grain has a different ratio of water used. I don't remember the measurements for rye but I know it isn't easy to look up each grain for this tech. If you change grain type you need to change water ratio. I just simmer now. By simmering I know when they're done & don't have to wait until PC is done to see if I made a bag of oatmeal or mushroom food.

      @kereyc5751 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@frisco9568 Were you using this no soak no simmer method? I've never actually used this method, I always do the soak and simmer with Organic rye berries. I think its a little safer to do the soak and simmer method if you are ending up with liquid in the bottom of your jar because if done right your grains will have the exact right amount of moisture and you wont inadvertently add too much water on accident doing the no soak no simmer method. The simmer part ends up drying your grains to the exact moisture they should be at when you let the hot grains dry after being simmered. You want the grains to have the moisture on the inside and pretty much dry on the outside. It gives you the assurance you have that perfect moisture content. Hope that helps a little bit!

    • @WillysWorld
      @WillysWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      That’s correct for some filter like cellulose filters for example. That’s because the grains can get the filter wet causing the pores of the filter to open or expand, which would allow contamination in. Like I mentioned real quick in the video, With the filter I have (Microppose synthetic stick on filters) that won’t happen because they’re hydrophobic and repel H2O. If they’re not then definitely don’t get the filters wet. Good question and observation

    Why not prep NSNS method and let them sit for a few hours or overnight before PC to allow them to eliminate the chance of pores not given time to open up? You've already put in the correct amount of water and birdseed.

    I started with the popcorn tek so at the moment I don't have a PC because the tek I followed all I had to do was steam sterilize it In a large pot for 2 hrs. If I were to use the no soak no simmer tek, how long would I steam sterilized the jar for, with no PC

    Hi there! Noob here... I tried the tek... Washed the wbs ditching everything that floats and rinse until water comes clean... Pack into quart jars with plastic lids with adhesive filter pads and Red RTV injection ports, with lids covered with foil, 300ml wbs (1.25c), 150ml water (5/8c), 1/4t gypsum, running PC 10mins to vent air, 90 mins at 15psi, released pressure, removed with canning tongs, and allowed to cool
    The wbs inside is stuck together hard and despite substantial banging of the jars to break up the WBS, about half of it remains as a solid cake on the bottom...
    What an I doing wrong? Thanks for any input!

      @AD-mq9yh ปีที่แล้ว

      Mby try shaking them while they are still warm/hot. If the grain is still stuck to the bottom, you can use a folded towel, bike tire, or a tennis ball to break it up. I have even seen someone (on Reddit) use a massage gun to break up their grain. Hopefully, this helps.

    Can you increase the amount of ingredients 5X and put it all in a single unicorn bag? When making a bucket of oysters I don’t relish opening and fishing spawn out of multiple jars when layering with straw. Much easier with a large single spawn bag.
    Addendum: I have done this twice and it works great.
