    I’d assume you’re going to add this, but a steel plate might make your joint between those beams a much stronger joint, considering that glue is not going to hold well on those end grains.

      Search for a video on youtube called "wood gluing myths: end grain", they scientifically test the strength of glued joints and find that end grain joints are TWICE as strong as side grain glued joints....hope this shows you not to believe every assumption you hear

    Those dominos glued to end grain are scaring the hell out of me. Maybe worth doing a update video on the finished product going over the joints in depth I’m assuming there’s a lot more structurally to this build than what is shown in this video

      Me too. Great idea, but the shear strength of the joints is scaring me. Need to somehow use scarfing or large tenons and steel (bolts, all-thread with washers and nuts) to increase structural integrity.

    +1 vote to beef up the joint between the two beam sections. It would have been cool to see the individual boards in the two sections interleaved and bolts straight through.

    The 6 dominoes on the 142º angle is an accident waiting to happen (as is all the other domino joints). Those 6 dominoes have less surface/volume area than ONE 2x4. Also, if he's thinking that by gluing the flat areas around the dominoes is adding extra strength, he would be mistaken as he is gluing END GRAIN. Additionally, there are many youtube videos demonstrating the inherent weakness of domino, biscuit and dowel joints vs. robust, traditional wood joints. The small area of the dominos just will not hold the shear force of the stair and load (people). I appreciate his use of common building materials for this project, but he should re-visit his joinery. A large, recessed tenon or half dovetail joint would have worked better.

    Pressure treated wood splits too much. I would have used a 2x12 Construction Heart Redwood. It's equally resistant to rot as any pressure treated wood you can buy

    I would think you could have just bought the stairs if you did not spend (if you did buy them) all the money that Festool tools cost. I believe the Domino machine is around $1,200...
