I decided to give it a try anyway, and started setting up troops for battle. It was then that this song struck my ears like a thunderbolt. I felt the fire of battle spread over my heart and the spirit of the Spartans filled my whole body. In my mind there was a battle screech of a white eagle and in the sky the rays of the sun poured down to the ground like a charging Hussars. In the possession of the God of War that was this piece, I threw myself screaming at the sea of enemies. Patriotism was driving me like a Berserker Frenzy! And then I lost xD
The saga that marked my video game experience most if definitely total war, especially medieval 1 with also viking invasion, medieval 2 with the dlc, and Warhammer, now I enjoy also empire total war.
My first memory with this song is playing Byzantines and marching a bunch of Byzantine Infantry and Trebizond Archers to capture a hill and defend it. What a great game for 1999.
A lot of people didn't even know the Byzantine East Roman Empire existed back then. It wasn't taught in western curriculum. MTW helped to popularize and restore its memory in the west!
The archers have taken the high grounds, halberdiers and spearmen hold the base of the hill, light cavalry and swordsmen flank the sides, inside the woods, the heavy cavalry march forth, the flaring of their nostrils a testimony to their unbridled fury and vigour, the enemy come into view, their frontlines peppered by arrows, its not enough, they crest the marker the cavalry charge and the battle begins..
