Rahm Kota: Do not try and bend the Star Destroyer, that would be impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth. Starkiller: What truth? Rahm Kota: That there is no Star Destroyer. And that it is not the ship that bends, but your will of the force.
"Don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force"-Darth Vader
Joe Kerr "Darth Vader's deleted line": the Force can destroy THREE planets at once! how's that? First Order: challenge accepted. A dorky random comment, have a nice day/night.
That makes a lot of sense, especially in regards to the "why didn't obi-wan run faster" scenario. But, then again, they did use it to run faster during the escape from the droidekas in the beginning of phantom menace. I guess the argument for that would be that they were deflecting blaster shots and not physically fighting for an hour against someone powerful (Darth Maul)
This is something I love, that using the Force and the abilities it gives have limits. I hate overpowered characters who simply use brute force to do something. Where is the challenge or excitement? So much better have limited or even flawed heroes that have to find another solution or do a little thinking to overcome a problem.
Palpatine at least had training with a master. A good example of an overpowered and almost flawless Force user though is Darth Vitiate or Valkorion from the old EU.
The power of Star Wars is the mystery and the fun of losing yourself in the world. Sometimes, people try waaaaaaay too hard to over-complicate how The Force should work. You put it very simply, and well said for that!
Or why didn't obi wan use the force to crush Vader's prosthetics. Then again, The HISHE vervain of that fight made obi wan look more like magneto with his powers.
Even if "size matters not", look how much effort Yoda put into lifting the ship from the swamp and how slowly it moved. The effort on Yoda's part was in how much concentration he needed to put into his use of the force, which was also shown in Attack of the Clones. Meaning that using the force isn't as effortless as it would seem, Almost like Danny Rand's iron fist draining out with each use and needing to recharge with time.
The novel Revenge of the Sith had some detailed looks at Force limitations. Read the part where Dooku is fighting Anakin on the Grevious's ship. It goes on as Anakin ramped up that Dooku was getting tired as the energy he had to use for the Force to stop Anakin cutting his head off was overtaxing. Force began to diminish to a point it was just Dooku as a normal human of his age. He could no longer meet Anakin blow for blow but just push Anakin's strikes away.
I got youre point but how come those Inqistors in Rebels can fly preatty good? Are they using they rotating double lightsabers for lift? As a helicopter? Johan.
The only limit the force has is the user's connection to it and how much training the user has on a certain ability. We can see Galen Marek doing what it looks to be flying when he fights Shaak Ti.
Interesting topic. About ability to fly, the book "The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force" has some answers. Third Pillar of the Force - Self-Discipline is about levitation (Rising Meditation).
I get the feeling that this episode was made (among other reasons) to have an excuse to say "that's not how the Force works!".. I for one was waiting for it the whole episode :P
Great video!! Learning "how" the Force works is a really informative and interesting concept, especially if it's from a Canon or Legends perspective. The Force is an omnipotent, mystical energy field that surrounds all living things and binds the galaxy together through which life is like a circle. Yet, the dark side and light side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities one considers to be unnatural and natural. However, power levels shouldn't matter since Star Wars is not a superhero universe and using the Force usually involves depending on your own abilities and strength of mind to get yourself out of a situation in most cases. Yet, limits may arise when the Force tells the user not to act rashly unless motioned otherwise. That's how you'll be aware of its "limits" as a spiritual guide, NOT just a superpower one can twiddle with their thumbs and perform plain stunts with. Even though I appreciate Canon and Legends altogether, yet more of a Legends fan due to my love for reading, I prefer the canonical explanation of the Force since it adds to the mysticism and enchantment found within its true power.
how do they jedi get there roes back after lightsaber fights? do they just go ack to where the dropped them off, i mean in ep 3 obi wans was left in the obervation deck on the CIS cruiser then later he has it again?
He got a new one or either has extras in his wardrobes! i dont know if the jedi had a strict code on what they could wear or not since we always see them robes so my guess is that they did!?
One question I can never decide a rationale for in my mind is what role the force plays in events and destiny and fate. Like the chosen one prophecy: did it just happen organically and someone foresaw it, or did the force have it happen because it wanted to regain balance and this was the only way. I guess what I'm saying is is the force a type of God, or is it just the force
The Force is to complicated for us to understand and even most Jedi and Sith to understand. It requires a mixture of concentration, passion, training, mindfulness, control, calmness and sometimes anger for a Sith or Jedi in some cases.
There is also a possibility that a Force user can only use one power at a time or at least direct the force toward one use at a time. For example, for a Jedi using telekinesis, or a Sith using lightning, their sensing abilities are weakened, along with their higher awareness. This could be why sideous couldn't sense vaders betrayal until it happened.
As the video says, Obi-Wan was unable to concentrate and/or react quickly enough at that moment in the battle to do so...or he realized that doing so would've caused the momentum to send him careening into the pit in the center of the room. Take your pick.
+Plo's Flow. There is a fourth option. Obi-Wan was unable to concentrate and/or react quickly enough at that moment in the battle to do so. As the video says.
This was well crafted; I've often wondered why Darth Sidious was unable to detect Yoda's near whereabouts after their duel in the Senate chamber. Darth Sidious was limited by his concern for Darth Vader, therefore couldn't sense Yoda's precise escape route.
I think force adepts can lift inanimate objects with little or no training, lifting living creatures is more difficult and lifting oneself is nearly impossible. It would likely involve extreme concentration to move about inefficiently. Can you lift an inanimate object while standing on it?
LETS JUST BE HAPPY WE ARE GETTIN STAR WARS AT ALL.....OR WOULD NO STAR WARS BE BETTER? IN MY MID 30S, IM A NUT JOB WHO CONSUMES ALL STAR WARS AND YES, THERE ARE SOME DISAPPOINTMENTS BUT OVERALL ITS WORTH IT AND IM HAPPY WITH THE PRODUCT WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN SO FAR, BE IT JUST A SMALL SAMPLE SIZE RESULTS ARE RESULTS....PLUS THE LAST JEDI WILL EXPLAIN AND THROW US ALL FOR A LOOP IM SURE OF THAT! ANOTHER SOLID VIDEO HOMIE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
I think tje recent force-triology could've shown that Luke after years of research was able to Developed these techniques:- (1) Flying (2) Healing => Regrowing lost limbs & Organs (3) Electromagnetic force Manipulation (4) Gravity Manipulation (5) Physical Strengthening of the body to Peak & Enhanced levels. (6) Teleportation Gorgo or Asoka or Leiha should've been the Grandmasters of the exisitng Jedi Order. Luke should've given Rey all the Research material before Teleportating her back to the Jedi-base planet. Luke should've taught only these techniques to Rey:- (1) Swordsmanhip (2) Hand-to-Hand Combat (3) Basic force Usage (4) Levitation (5) Lightning (6) Physical Strengthening
I always imagined it working in the same way that Magneto flies, with the person in question manipulating an object they were standing on or wearing in order to lift themselves. Since you mentioned it in passing, you have to wonder how many Force users accidentally moved things in their sleep, particularly those who had less control over their abilities such as the young or untrained.
Any long distance runner will tell you that the power of the mind can limit any persons' ability, and make it more difficult to accomplish things until the mind is forced to focus on 'can' rather than 'can't' !
Or to put it another way. Luke as an Adult or Obi Wan as a Young Man is less powerful than Jedi Lumpy was as a competitive child ? (kidding). NEO : "You saying I can dodge Bullets?" Morpheus : "I am saying when the time comes.... You won't have to"
Have we ever seen in canon or legends a force user who can minipulate things on an atomic/molecular scale. Like could jedi use the force to creat nuclear fiision in an Uranium-235 isatope and create a nuclear explosion with their mind?
At the end of every video you say: 'Thanks for watching, and (beat) May the Force be with you.' At that beat I always think your going to say 'Have a safe trip back' like that commando droid in the star wars the clone wars episode, Rookies. Please, Please, Please, say 'Have a safe trip back.' Just once Thanks
Yeah, TFA's first scene with Kylo Ren is pretty cool, which is why it's so strange when in the rest of the movie he continues to not use the same power when dealing with Rey or when he is shot by Chewbacca.
Was he though? His expression barely changed when he knelt and he didn't fight like he was grievously wounded. Remember, Chewie's crossbow can send stormtroopers either flying or rolling forward (depending on the stuntman). Stormtroopers who wore armor. Kylo Ren is just wearing black robes and he was struck by the laser in his stomach. Any way that you look at it, Kylo Ren is a man of contradictions.
Except that Obi had already used force run in battle earlier in the same episode; and he had to worry about dodging long range blaster bolts not a close range lightsaber belonging to someone already engaged in battle
People always talk about obi-wan not running faster to help qui-gon, but my question is: Why didnt qui-gon just wait for obi-wan to catch up?! He was even meditating and looked calm and collected so its not like he was built up with rage or adrenaline. I dont know, maybe he thought maul had an escape plan and qui-gon didnt want maul to get away or something
I am down with this, especially since many fans want Force users to be superheroes who can tap into both the Light and Dark Sides without consequences.
Cutting through it would've been faster. Opening 4 heavy doors that have been sealed shut would've taken a lot of focus and time. Lol I said "taken" in a sentence when we're talking about a Liam Neeson character.
So that means Mace Windu couldn't save himself from his fall, because he couldn't concentrate while still being zapped by the aftereffects of Palpatine's Force Lightning blast. Either that, or he had already lost consciousness.
considering how long the fall is i would not be surprised if he had more then enough time to concentrate especially since he was more of a force user then any other jedi at the time!
Yes. Star Wars is about emotional connections to all living beings, expanding their character and the galaxy, moral compass, talk about ordinary people that are just like us and technology. No Lord of the Rings/Superhero like powers (they already have their franchise) and maybe only one or two political talks in any media because everyone is talking about them all the time on Earth.
+I'm Unimpressed Starkiller didn't pull a star destroyer straight out of orbit. It was already falling and he merely re-directed it to crash safely to protect his friends who would have died if it crashed naturally.

I enjoy your videos but I could do with a lot less of the prequels. The reason Obi Wan didn't run through the force fields is because he was paralysed by Qui Gon's force power: soporific boredom!
Just because you can do a backflip doesn't mean you could/should do a backflip all the time... same thing. They're basically normal people but just use their powers when they require it.
I mean can you imagine Star Wars but with everyone flying and using their powers all the time? they would be like Superman and we wouldn't have a story because all of the problems would be solved lol
We so called "use 10% of our brains" what if the force users only used 10% of the forces ability? What could happen if someone was 100% with the force! Think about it!🔥👌👍⭐️
Remember, the Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.
You mean The High Ground
For Darth Sidious (aka the Senate) there was no limit, because had UNLIMITED POWAAAAHHH
Rahm Kota: Do not try and bend the Star Destroyer, that would be impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth.
Starkiller: What truth?
Rahm Kota: That there is no Star Destroyer. And that it is not the ship that bends, but your will of the force.

Kimmo Koskinen the forces limit is Lucasfilm's creativity
Palpatine at least had training with a master. A good example of an overpowered and almost flawless Force user though is Darth Vitiate or Valkorion from the old EU.
This is exactly why if Legends characters do come to canon, I want them to be much less powerful than in Legends.
Brian Boardwell Have you anyone special in mind?
Very interesting video Alex, thank you. Kylo's connection is extremely impressive, can't wait to see him in The Last Jedi.
The power of Star Wars is the mystery and the fun of losing yourself in the world. Sometimes, people try waaaaaaay too hard to over-complicate how The Force should work. You put it very simply, and well said for that!
But why the heck Vader didn't lift Luke back to him with the Force in the Empire strikes back?!
Boba Fett Yep
Macattack 1 Ok
Luke would keep trying to kill himself.
Or why didn't obi wan use the force to crush Vader's prosthetics. Then again, The HISHE vervain of that fight made obi wan look more like magneto with his powers.
VADER 99 But every force user in Star Wars have force shield. That's why the Vader didn't just break Obi-Wan's neck with the force
Kylo might have failed in a lightsaber battle. But let's admit that in the use of the force he is pretty advanced.

Will we see krennic in rebels season 4?
I'm scared of Season 4. I think Ahsoka's going to die. :(
She already did in S3
Thobias Eriksson Nope she didn't you can clearly see her at the end of the battle.

@Star Wars Explained What is Luke's midi-chlorian count?
Fantastic explanation Alex
Does Aftermath Empire's End changes the way people see Jar Jar?
Elemental Jedi nope its the only thing about him that i laughed at
itz DRod agreed, a fitting end
While I never liked the character, the book did make me feel some pity for him.
I would've liked him if the "Drunken Boxing" Sith Lord theory was true...

Interesting

That's the same thing as the first option I listed. Don't mess up the count.

I think what he meant by doing it in their sleep is that it was no big deal for them. They meditated so much, their concentration was on no par.
Oh yes, I know, haha. I was just wondering off the back of that turn of phrase if it literally happened.
Well, seeing as sleepwalking exists, it might be possible for Force sensitives to use it if they are in a very intense dream.
Any long distance runner will tell you that the power of the mind can limit any persons' ability, and make it more difficult to accomplish things until the mind is forced to focus on 'can' rather than 'can't' !

Luke throwing the rock was a simpler solution to the Rankor problem that had less chance of failing than using teh Force.
"Why don't Jedi fly?" - because only sith inquisitors get flashy double-bladed sabercopters
András Takács You had to bring that up ugh! that poodoo had me pissed for two straight days xD
Well Obi-Wan doesn't need to fly. He already has the high ground
Matrix reference 😍 automatic thumbs up 😏
Really loved this vidio!
because the "force shield" I don't remember were I heard that
Apart from obi wan had used force dash in a battle situation earlier in the film.
Yoda more than 900 years old and still had no problem to delicately lift that X-Wing and land it
People always talk about obi-wan not running faster to help qui-gon, but my question is: Why didnt qui-gon just wait for obi-wan to catch up?! He was even meditating and looked calm and collected so its not like he was built up with rage or adrenaline. I dont know, maybe he thought maul had an escape plan and qui-gon didnt want maul to get away or something
Because until then, Maul always had to back up, he thought he cornered him, and bested Maul.
I am down with this, especially since many fans want Force users to be superheroes who can tap into both the Light and Dark Sides without consequences.
Lucy Logan I never thought about them that way. Hmm.
Aaaaand then you have The Force Unleashed.
Make a video on who you would have in your star wars soccer team
why didn't qui-gon just use the force to open the door at the start of TPM instead of cutting through it?
Watch the video again. (and also because there were like 4 door pieces and also because it would make the film worse)
Cutting through it would've been faster. Opening 4 heavy doors that have been sealed shut would've taken a lot of focus and time. Lol I said "taken" in a sentence when we're talking about a Liam Neeson character.

How about doing a video like this about the Sith and how the Emperor has "unlimited power "
Real answer: It would make boring content if they used the force to the max of it ability
Yes. Star Wars is about emotional connections to all living beings, expanding their character and the galaxy, moral compass, talk about ordinary people that are just like us and technology. No Lord of the Rings/Superhero like powers (they already have their franchise) and maybe only one or two political talks in any media because everyone is talking about them all the time on Earth.
what about unlimited power?
Limitations made Legends Grievous an interesting opponent of the Jedi.
That's not how the force works!
Apparently now it is... Rey OP.
Don't you mean MaRey Sue
When you said the force has limits that is why characters in star wars legends were ridiculously overpowered
One problem, Galen Merrick aka Starkiller pulled a star destroyer out of the sky
In legends Galen Marek aka Starkiller was probably the only one who used the force fully unleashed
Han: that's not how the Force works!
Probably because he had enough foresight to know that Luke was going to leave out of that pit!
Hello there!
Does the force have limits? Or just our abilities to harness them?
To harness them,
doesn't Vader force choke someone through a camera? whats up with that?
Adam Wiley I guess powerful force users can sense other living beings across the fabric of space?
Vacuum, I meant vacuum of space lol
Yea it's a mental thing
Why don't Jedi Fly?
"That's not how the force works!"
IT JUST WORKS
Have you all notice that Yoda looks little bit like skitter?
I remember the time when Force Users were actually powerful in Clone Wars 2003.
Good thing that isn't canon
Tac Son agreed that duel between Anakin and ventress is amazing.
Tac Son and people say star killer is op
Tac Son No there was an overpowered cyborg alien that wasn't a Force User that defeated multiple 'powerful' Force Users at the same time.
Cobra Shadowz
Vader was a human and he was force sensitive though?
we know Starkiller can pull a star destroyer straight outta orbit. OH WAIT THAT'S LEGENDS NOW THANKS DISNEY
+I'm Unimpressed Starkiller didn't pull a star destroyer straight out of orbit. It was already falling and he merely re-directed it to crash safely to protect his friends who would have died if it crashed naturally.

The special effects budget also has limits.
there is no spoon is about codependent arising, not levitating objects🧘♀️
I enjoy your videos but I could do with a lot less of the prequels.
The reason Obi Wan didn't run through the force fields is because he was paralysed by Qui Gon's force power: soporific boredom!
Force have no limits! Only your mind have does.

Dang it you made my joke
I have lots of mental blocks
UNLIMITED... POWWEEERRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey they cant fly but theu dont take fall damage
I'm starting to think the force is sentient.
The force is only limited by plot convinience.
No the sequels are the example of bad writing
We so called "use 10% of our brains" what if the force users only used 10% of the forces ability? What could happen if someone was 100% with the force! Think about it!🔥👌👍⭐️
The "We use 10% of our brain" myth has been disproven multiple times in the past
There are no limits to the force only for the user using the force
Jedi before Darth Traya was basically superhuman cause they used the force way more than sabers. That's just crap out for lazy writing.
The real power of the force is to put the right man in the wrong place
