Let me know your thoughts on the Puma ST below! Also, feel free to check out my Handling Pack film, along with the other Puma models, from the videos in the description 😊
Had mine since March ….. had plenty of previous STs Fiesta up to Mk4 Focus ST (330hp Dreamscience with handling pack) ….plenty of comments about these not being an ST ….. they most definitely are ….. stick it in sport mode and brilliant ST handling and plenty quick enough, auto box great, paddles work great if you want to use them, brakes great , and they sound good as well when given a bit of stick, the seats are superbly comfy and supportive…put in normal or Eco on the motorway and I’m getting around 50 mpg ….. I agree about the steering wheel …. Mine has the old flat bottom one, which I prefer not the square one , which I believe the handling pack one you tested the other week also has ? .. to anyone thinking about getting one all I would say is take one out for a test drive, you might be surprised….. great vid again Sam 👍🏼
Thank you for sharing your ownership thoughts with your Puma ST as this is super helpful and I am happy you are enjoying the car. They are great fun! Yes the Handling back has the pre-facelifted steering wheel, with the main difference being that it is a bit thicker and does not have the flat top. Both felt great to use although I probably preferred the look of the handling pack's steering wheel. Thank you also for the positive feedback and I agree you have to test one out before coming to a conclusion on it for sure 😊
@ I forgot to also mention the radar guided cruise control and lane keeping…. On a 7 hour drive to up to Scotland it was and absolute pleasure on the motorway just keeping your hand on the wheel…. The car practically drives itself…. Then in the Glens into sport mode it comes alive 👍🏻……and these frosty winter mornings…. Start the car up from my phone 5 minutes or so before I leave the house … it stays locked but nice warm seat and steering wheel and defrosted ready to drive off … really is a great car in my humble opinion 👍🏻
Thank you for sharing that! Sounds like a great trip to Scotland and the extra technology making it relaxing on the journey whilst the sporty nature of the ST still being fun on some great roads 👍
Yeah like the colour really nice plus with the black roof and mirrors it works well...love the alloys aswell its all good, thanks for the upload and agood review of the car 👍😊
No worries at all! So I have noticed Ford have been changing the available colour options quite sporadically, day by day, on what is for sale on a new Puma ST. The previous Handling Pack car I drove in white is now no longer offered in White. It does make things confusing when it comes to choosing a colour I also feel🤔
Hello Sam, nice set of comparisons about these ST models👏😊 Some users in internet which experienced both cars say new 1.0 170 ST exhaust pops quiter in sport mode than the older 1.5 ST. Is that really true? How did you find the exhaust comparing to older one? I really wondered this issue because I consider upgrading my manual ST to auto one. But Ford offical dealer didn't bring the newer auto ST models to my country yet, it's still uncertain.
Thank you for the feedback around the videos. For me the 1.0 170 ST does not make as much exhaust pops as the older 1.5. It is a little due to exhaust regulations but also the larger capacity engine. I personally preferred the exhaust sound of the 1.5 although this is very subjective 🙂
Will need to replace the battery after servicing today. The car battery went dead after 4 days of not using it 😑. Twice I had to call the AA, the AA guy said that I had to use the car twice a week. I asked him what happened if I had to go abroad and not use the car. He said to me that you are screwed.
It would be interesting to know if the facelifted ST has the same suspension setup as the pre facelift, because the pre facelift powershift had identical suspension and brakes to the 1.5 200 PS version, so I wonder if the suspension was tweaked post facelift since the 1.5 was no longer an option.
For me, having driven a variety of different Puma ST models over the last few years, I did not notice any real different in the suspension. This is subjective for sure but for me the only major change suspension wise would be if you went for the Handling Pack. If there is any difference it feels very subtle 👍
@@SamAustinThat is interesting because without doubt the Puma ST is more firmly sprung than the Fiesta ST (not surprising since the Fiesta has a lower centre of gravity, but even so the Fiesta certainly is not soft riding), so I’m assuming the handling pack equipped ST must be very firmly sprung indeed.
Hi Sam gr8 review.... I've been looking at 2 cars , Ford Puma ST or ST line DCT 170 or a VW Golf R line DSG 150... can't find an answer to which gearbox is best out of both ? ...and are you allowed to mention your choice of vehicle if you had to choose ?. TIA LB
Thank you for the positive feedback. So they are two different cars in my opinion. The Golf R-Line offers a lot more space and comfort. It is a car I very much enjoyed driving this year. The Puma ST is more sporty and offers less practicality compared to the Golf. In terms of the gearbox specifically I would lean towards the Golf R-Line DSG 150 from my experience with them both. Hope this helps with your potential decision 😊
Which would you choose the handling pack or pano roof? Both similar money as extras. Hopefully you can do a review of the electric puma in the future so you can compare all the versions. The yellow paint looks good, but 1.5 probably for the win. Fingers crossed for an electric ST at some point.
For me I would go for the Handling pack although it is all personal preference. For sure I would love to try out the Electric version of the Puma in the future and share it with you all. Very much fingers crossed on an ST version or even possibly an RS! 😁
I went for pano roof and omitted the handling pack, since I'll frequently drive around with my wife and son and I thought they'd be happier with more sunshine and slightly more comfortable suspension. I just hope I can get used to the bigger steering wheel.
My brother has this car with handling pack he picked it up 3 weeks ago I’ve had a drive in it in motorway and in town and as a 1.0 it’s very nippy and new tech screens update the interior. However I have a 2023 Puma ST 1.5 with limited slip differential and Michelin pilot 4S Tyres and I’m afraid it’s night and day between the two cars power handling the stark contrast is crystal clear on winding roads and exiting corners on the straight you notice the power decrease and the engine screams when accelerating compared to the 1.5 . It’s a gorgeous car especially inside but I’m afraid given the choice I’d have the 1.5 every time .
It is all very much subjective and personal preference for sure and thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Puma ST models. That 1.5 is great although I also love the new handling pack as it really does add to the engagement in the corners. It felt like the car was very capable down a twisty back road 😊
They sounded the same to me. Potentially less road noise in this car compared to the handling pack's lower suspension if there is any difference in sound. I did not notice any difference in the engine sound although this car has 2,500miles so perhaps it makes a slightly different noise as it is more run in than the lower miles in the Handling Pack car I tried 🤔
@SamAustin ok thanks, maybe the video sounds different not the car. I wanted to know because i'm waiting a White new st coming Next wheek, the standard st like the one in this video but in White colour not the handling pack one. Nice videos, there are not much about the facelift st so your videos help me in my waiting 😂
How much power can you use on UK roads riddled with potholes, speed cameras around every corner and now a leftie government that wants us all to drive milk floats.

Totally agree. Also had my pre facelift Puma ST since March, previously had Fiesta STs. Still definitely a real ST

Ford do love to produce a great colour and this looked great in person for sure! Thank you for the positive feedback on the review 😊🙏
Thanks for the review Sam. I notice however that on the Ford website there isn’t a blue colour option - I’m confused!?

Does this unit sound quieter than the white handling pack of your other video i think??

No worries at all and many congrats on your order🎊 Not long now to wait for your Puma ST and I appreciate the positive feedback 😊
Ford used to be known for building strong reliable engines, the ecoboost binned their reputation.
The puma st has less power than the fiesta st.thats surprising
That’s not an St
I work for Ford and this is a terrible car and under powered. I wouldn't waste my money!
Congratulations🎉
I wouldn't touch it no room in the back unless your a child under powered for a st model spend your money on a better car
