I have the SENA 10C Pro headset. I love it for a number of reasons. You can communicate with other riders, your phone and it has a built in action cam to capture whatever you wish. Example: you come to a sketchy water crossing or anything that is sketchy and you say to your buddy, "you go first. I'll get it on video". No, seriously, I don't video everything. But, there are times that you do want to capture a section of trail, etc. And, you capture the audio of the other connected riders on the video clip so it doesn't sound like a one way conversation. I have mine for a number of years. If it died, I would buy another, probably the upgraded model. BTW, your 300 Rally looks great!
Regarding headsets, we went for the Cardo Pack Talk Bold and couldn't be happier. They reconnect to other riders automatically when you go in and out of range. Communication devices are a game changer almost like getting your first cell phone. I have asked myself many times how we did this without them. I'm of the buy once mindset and highly recommend the Cardo system. They have lasted a full 13 hour day of communicating, gps and music. Also I have the Mosko Moto Reckless 80 which is very similar to the Tusk version. Their top bag is 22l . I've ridden a couple of BDRs with my 300 and barely felt the bags at all. It's a great system with most of the weight low and forward. I keep my heavier crap in the side bags and the lighter stuff up top. I believe you're going to be very happy with your set up.
Your feedback is much appreciated. I rode with a guy today that uses the same Cardo you reference. He said the same positive things, so I'll pull my wallet out!
I rode alone to Argentina on a KLR and now have a 300 rally. It’s all about keeping it simple and lightweight. I use a Sena headset and love it. I listen to music when it’s safe . Big difference between the cheapies and nicer ones
I love your attitude buy the best or go home!! That’s how I roll. Buy it once and then I don’t have buyers remorse. But I ride a WR250R. But the Rally is kool!! I have been a street rider for the last 20 years Harley and BMWs but I’m looking to hit the back roads not single track that beats your gear and me! Well enjoy around Bend Oregon out !
For me, ultimate goal is 200 mile range, I would be fine with that tank. I carried my camp gear the whole TAT and camped one night in Tennessee.... Way too hot and it just worked better for me solo.
That is a great-looking bike! I'm thinking of getting the tusk frames and pilot bags for my xr650. I am debating the com options also. If I see a benefit, I will get the more expensive unit. Thanks for the vid!
I’ve done the TAT on my KLR 650 and now I bought a 300l because I thought this was a better bike for riding solo and if you drop it. This bike is a lot littler and I dropped my KLR about 6 times on the whole trail. Everyday I wished my bike was littler, so your on the right path. I carried too much gear like a tent and sleeping bag but found myself staying in hotels every night because it was too darn hot, and I was able to eat at mom and pops before I slept each night. I have both cardio, and Sena headsets but found Sena better because more people have them and it a hell of a lot easier to sync with others. I would buy the 50s or 50r so you can listen to your garmin and music at the same time with voice mode. Just wondering if you did an ecu upgrade with that exhaust and if that is a tusk heat shield on there?
I sold the MotoX exhaust because it killed the top end performance. My Yoshimura exhaust is arriving this week and I do have the 550 remapped ECU for it. Thanks for your feedback on your KLR. I originally planned to use a T7, but I think I'll be happier with the 300 for the reasons you expressed!
I’m on crf rally group I also just installed these could you post a pic of where ur exhaust side strap is located I’m thinking about using the fender mount bracket on my rear master cylinder bolt thanks.
@CRF300 Rally USA I’m just about on the same page as you with a lot of this stuff. It looks like I’ve decided on the Tusk line of bags for my Rally as well... I like the Traverse bags for my day trips around the house. Plus I have a small Nelson Rigg tail bag to pair with those. But to prepare for the TAT I’m going to go ahead and order the same set up that you have here. As far as water supply goes, I have a 2 liter camel pack that I use to mountain bike with, but I think I’m going to upgrade that to either a 3, or maybe even a 4 liter. But I won’t be carrying anything else on my back but water, that’s it! I’m still undecided on a tank bag, like you, I’m not a huge fan of that thing sitting in front of me, but after my day ride on Sunday I was kinda thinking that it might come in handy... if I do get one, I’m sure it will be the Tusk... July just sounds like the worst month to pick due to the heat., I’d much rather do most of my riding during the cooler months... but due to my schedule, and how long it’s taking me to prepare everything in order to be ready to go, it just might fall out to be around the same time as you. I do not plan on tackling the entire trail all at once, and I’m thinking that it may even take me several trips to complete it all from one end to the other... I live in Louisiana, and my first excursion will most likely begin at the furthest point of the trail on the east coast, and I will travel as far as I can before I have to go back home for a week or two, depending on work., at which time I will return to where I left off, and continue on moving West, for as long as I’m allowed... I’m thinking that each trip will consist of anywhere from 5-10 days each. What are your plans, are you planning to ride the entire trail from east to west all in one trip?
I haven't pulled those videos together yet! I will shortly though. Wait, I may have misunderstood... Are you referring to the Trans America Trail? If so, I hope to after July 4th holiday.
No, I did not for the MotoX exhaust. I didn't like it so I sold it and my Yoshimura will be in this week. I do have the 550 re-mapped ECU for the new pipe. I'm currently running the Thailand ECU.

I'm using soft bags as I've seen guys get injured when hard paniers get them in a fall. As big as you are, I doubt anything can hurt you!

You think the highland would be too big for the 300L? Not sure excursion would be big enough for moto camping
When do you plan on hitting the trail?

The hole that tilts them down I believe.
Where did you get foot pegs?
Inexpensive Amazon pegs. Nothing fancy, but I wouldn't trust them on my race bike! LOL
Just got mine was pretty dissapointed on the water bottle holders. Can't even fit a normal size nalgene bottle in them. Bah

Yes, put over 500 miles on it...
