Many rules are wrong here..in the 2nd question "yesterday" hadn't been changed to "the previous day". In 1st question the tenses were also not changed and many more.

umm 5:53 when the reported verb is in present/ future tense the rest of the sentence does not change.
for eq if it is 'says', the sentence remains the same. So Harsh 'tells' VArun that he will receive the money the day after tom (sentence remains the same). Changes take place only when the verb is in past- 'said'
