I know that fire starts are greatly praised BUT for gen 3 nuzlocks and speedruners mudkip is great. Jaiden only chooses torchic bcs it's her favourite you can go to any Professional nuzlocker and see that they chose mudkip reason: it's good against FOUR OF the eight gyms in the region also it resists the last gym if the last gym in rs and also oras also in kanto speedruners sure do use squirtle but they just use it for hm and replace it but just like mudkip bulbasaur is the greatest options here it's good against the two early gym which is really great it resist the next 2 gyms it's good against every Giovanni battle and for else they are like where gen 1 has a weird design that you can battle them in any order in blain case first beat kogga then so you can surf that means you can easily destroy blain so you see fire start suck like they are THE worst to pick in gen 1 and three there are other gens where this is happening but it will take too much time just don't say that fire starters are best in every generation.
Also fire starters are not hard to find in gen one you get arcanine ninetails rapidash magmar moltres. You got a lot of other options but sure the other types got a lot more options but bcs they are mimiced from real life there are So many water Pokemon(fun fact the most amount of the Pokemon out of every Pokemon are water types)Just like our oceans it isa straight mimic bcs there are so many water creatures and we only haven't even discoverd 97% of our oceans just like plants there are so many plants but there is only fire like it's just one thing so yeah but you got more options like in gen 4 they cut out the national dex in dp but they bring it back in platinum so who plays even dp over platinum now days it's just dp but better.

Fun Fact: when you were talking about IVs & EVs when Jaiden killed all the Marill, Marill gives HPs when one is killed. Those 80+ Marill giving HP boosts allowed ZipZapZop to survive the later Earthquake. I didn’t catch that until much later.

Let me explain: Everyone HATES Double Team. Whenever the opponent uses Double Team, they're going to be MAD about it. Everyone hates evasion. Nothing is more frustrating in Pokemon than not getting to attack.
I get your point, because of what MandJTV said in one of his videos: "Double Team is a terrible, awful, evil move, unless you're the one using it." Speaking of MandJTV, you should react to MandJTV's Castform Solo Run (ORAS), and Mah-Dry-Bread's Castform Solo Run (Emerald). That would be a good "Who Ran It Better?" video.

@@YoBGS If I quit in the middle, their deaths would be in vain! I need to honor their sacrifices, and at least achieve the goal I set out to do in the first place! Honestly, a lot of it is my own mistakes. I'm not so good with the type advantages once you get into steel, dragon, poison, etc, especially with duel types. A lot of it was keeping the wrong mon out front and them getting one shotted. I have 6 of the 8 badges in Pokemon X so far, and I plan on continuing the locke in Alpha Sapphire and Ultra Sun, writing a continuous story from the perspective of the trainer. It was actually Jaiden that inspired me to do this nuzlocke in the first place, and I hope to post my story here on youtube as a narrated comic, as animation is a bit outside my skill range. Here's to Sparkpowder the spewpa, Muffs the ledyba, Scorpion the croagunk, Pinecone the Quilladin (my starter :( ), Sarge the litleo, Wriggles the Spoink, Dune the hippopotas, Polly the minun, Hummer the yanma, Refract the Amaura, Deadra the axew, Bronze the solrock, Yoka the exeggcute, and Fee Fie Foe the dugtrio. It's because of them and my surviving members that I've gotten as far as I did, and hopefully will get to the end. (also realized I miscounted, only lost 14, hopefully I didn't jinx myself)
@@YoBGS The deaths are kind of the point of the nuzlocke. Sometimes things wont go the way you want them to and you have to adapt to that. You end up using pokemon you never would under normal conditions and you end up with some pokemon you looked down on turning into heroes of the run. Resetting the game just because things arent going optimally goes against the spirit of a nuzlocke. You keep going as long you have even a single pokemon left trying to turn a bad situation arround. I've only had one of the first 6 pokemon I catch make it to the very end once. But usually my team at the end is completely different from the start.
@@nabi7701 Yeah! This is why I will ALWAYS defend Bibarel and Bidoof, to the point I beg for them in my platinum runs. Bibarel tanked so much throughout that first run (Her name was Cynthia to appease the champion because oh boi) and tank two attacks from Garchomp before killing it and taking out her final few pokemon. That run Did Not go in my favor and by the time I beat Cynthia, that bibarel was my only pokemon. Love bibarel and bidoof now

about 33:22, no, it's just no use to heal and essentially come back to the same exact situation because it just attacked again. when a mon 2 shots you, healing isn't a good option (with exceptions ofcourse).
Originally 4KIDS handled the English dub of the pokemon anime (until 2005) and they were allowed to pronounce the pokemon names however they wanted. Different studios have done the dub since but all of them were closely monitored by the Pokemon Company to make sure they were correct. This is where inconsistent pronunciations come from (with the exception of Arceus).
Folks like you are legit some of the best people I've met since my channel started growing. In these and the Minecraft videos I learn so much because you're so courteous and stuff with your feedback. Also you're right. If I play 10,000 pokemon games I will always mix up Spinda, Teddyursa, and Cubchoo. My brain just doesn't like remembering which is which.

Crits are evil. So many dead pokemon from crits, so many failed captures from crits. On average it seems I end up with around 10 deaths in nuzlockes, usually early on.
A good example of how fast you can lose a pokemon to crits can be found in AT4W's Randomized Nuzlock streams for Pokemon Heartgold (and others, he's done it for like 3 games). Poor Sharklameign the Sharpedo and Balteau the Suicune, you will be missed.
Unless you are Duncan and are trying to Nuzlocke a modded game you have comissioned. Then "lol focus sash alakazam lvl 60 in the second gym" is your worst enemy. Or, yknow, a slew of other evil, evil things.
The reason she can’t use groudon is because ledgendaries can’t be used in nuzlockes. To everyone saying legendary Pokémon can be used I know that it’s not a concrete rule I should have said that it is not all nuzlocks
Thats not really true. Theres like 1000+ different variations of nuzlockes with differing rules. Some allow legendaries, some don't. For example some people have a "dragon rage" clause which doesn't count deaths from moves that do a set amount of dmg before one of your pokemon has more HP than 40. Others have rules that prevent in battle items being used and etc. The only definitive rules for something to be considered a nuzlocke are: 1. Can only catch first pokemon on a route 2. Deaths are permanent 3. Pokemon must be nickamed

The reason for ZipZapZop's survival is, i believe, that she was beating Marills. Marill gives HP EVs, so that could possibly have given it enough HP to tank the hit, possibly in addition to a low roll. (I should've checked the comments first, since others have said this. C'est la vie.) Also, as to not using Groudon, a lot of people (myself included) choose not to use legendaries since that'd generally be too easy.

nazlocks are usually played by a code of honour, so the roles depend on the player. for example, most players won't exchange mons for no reason. i imagine that she didn't use the groudon for a similar reason.
I think some people don’t use legendaries cause it’s kinda cheap and want to give themselves more of a challenge. Same reason a lot of people try not to be over-leveled for gym and often set it so they can’t swap out their pkm for free when they KO an opponent
I am a regular Nuzlocker, and lemme tell you, most of the time I can’t even get to the elite four, so the fact she managed to win, even if Ari and Teriyaki are the only survivors, for her FIRST RUN, is impressive
After watching a certain poketuber's reaction to this video, it came to my attention that the HP EVs that Marill gives combined with Magneton's naturally good physical defense stat is what allowed it to survive Altaria's earthquake. So yeah, Marill was literally the perfect training dummy.
I wrote my own Nuzlocke fanfic on DeviantART while I was doing my first Nuzlocke earlier this year in LeafGreen! I wrote it out in-character as if they were diary entries! Jaiden's video was one of my inspirations to do it and I had fun! I managed to get through the whole thing with only five casualties and my starter survived to the end!

I don't have a favorite "type" for starters, I pick whichever one is coolest in that generation. And this can often change with my mood. I've done Gen I runs with all three starters just because I liked them more at the time I was starting.
In Nuzlockes (or at least the ones I've seen), you can catch Legendary Pokemon to avoid a difficult battle and/or a potential death but you can't use them
It really isn't (at least to my knowledge, haven't been here for that long!) what this channel is about, but I would love to watch you attempt a nuzlocke run! I feel like the way you commentate these videos would really benefit it! I also highly recommend checking some of the videos by Pokémon Challenges, he pretty much only does nuzlockes (especially some on those hard romhacks like Kaizo Blue). His explanations are really thorough and informative. He also is one of those people who stack on multiple other rules (Can't outlevel gym leaders Pokémon, must play on set mode etc.)
When you started talking about "the only shiny I caught..." I just remember mines. My only caught shiny was a shiny buizel that I gave to a friend who was moving away.
My first shiny was boring, it was just a rattata :/ But I do have both a shiny tentacruel and a shiny crobat on my firered save file! I love them both :D

13:10 Sure in a playthrough evasion is fine, however in competitive it adds more rng to an already luck based game, it’s not really sportsmanship to lose cuz your opponent was able to set up a double team and all your strategy went out of the window due to luck the other player forced

"I've played all gens and only caught 1 shiny". I played every gen, and never even encountered a shiny, let alone catch one... (except for gyarodos ofcourse)
My only shiny encounter has been a Growlithe, and that in the first game I played. I already had four, though, with two leveled up real high (one had Intimidate, and one was, like, resistant to fire moves, whatever that ability is), so I didn't get to use it. Rip shiny Growlithe in the box
First starter? Used to be always Grass, but now I'm more in the "never fire" category. Not that I'm against fire types in general, but the fire starters just appeal to me less for some reason.
In later gens there are a lot cooler fire types. Like Volcarona! So it makes up the difference. In gen 1 you pretty much have fire starter, ponyta, or growlithe and that's about it lol
I don't personally have a type preference for starters; I usually go in blind, look at the three given and pick the one that appeals the most. Naming though, I absolutely take gender into account, which does affects some predetermined names I have. For example I always name Venusaur 'Venny' as a homage to the Venusaur my younger self stuck by back in the days of Pokémon Blue, but if it's a girl, then it becomes 'Venni'. EVs and IVs I don't particularly care about until after I've gone through the game once and then some, then I'm immediately in competitive mode, researching everything I've missed and breeding the mons I like to be the best they can be, even if they're not exactly best suited for actual competitive.
I love that! Like, a lot. Especially bc I have a lot of speedrunner friends that will play immediately to find speedrunning tech and it's, you gotta enjoy the game at least once!
I've always picked water starters. Always. And this ended up working really well with two friends I had, because one always picked fire types and the other always picked grass. Pure coincidence but was amazing
Jaiden inspired me to start my Sword nuzlocke. Rules are normal except sometimes the pokemon is too strong to catch it so I have to catch the first pokemon i am able to catch (i can see the pokemon too so it isnt so random but im a complete beginner). Also cuz I only do it for myself and dont record, I put the dead pokemon in a "RIP" box instead of releasing to have memories. This is my first nuzlocke so what do yall think? I just did the first gym 😆 edit: since im a beginner i also switch out pokemon
Swampert 100% because I love Mudkip Edit: Double Team is kinda BS with the evasion hax and turns the battle from strategy to RNG. There are also some bosses in Emerald that are frustrating because of their double team spam
there is nothing wrong with evasion, the "not honorable" stigma comes from the idea that winning a fight with evasion that could have been won without it is a bit cowardly. The real origins of it comes from the smogon format, in which the butt hurt veterans at the top of the ladder with all the authority to change the format's rules decided to ban evasion tactics all together because they were not fun to fight against. Whether or not you agree with the decision, smogon's reputation has done nothing but plummet over time after the decision, as the existence of bans created problems they had to solve with further bans, to the point that the format is so rigid that it seems like there are a total of 10 legal pokemon in the format, and the ones who decide what gets banned are too afraid of change and try to bend the format so that they never have to change their team to win the format events. smogon is not official, and as before stated, all the problems are byproducts of their own restrictions. The evasion they hate so much has built in counters in the form of never-miss moves (anything whos accuracy stat is labeled as "--", like swift) and setup time that the opponent can strike quickly to avoid the problem all together, and the official VCG (whos biggest problem is corruption and hacking) has no such limitation on evasion, yet very few top teams use evasion tactics to win due to how unreliable they are at top levels. Nuzlocks are challenge runs, and therefore EVs and IVs are not the main focus. Those who are well versed in them and can plan around them might have an advantage, but it is not required. The difficulty of a nuzlock comes mostly down to how it is played. How many extra restrictions (things like never entering your pc to adjust party or never using items in battle unless the pokemon is already holding it)? How willing is the person to grind? a nuzlock that is started by grinding to lvl 100 on the first route is tedious, but makes the challenge generally easier as long as the grinding process does not take unnecessary risks.

I have only found 2 legit shinies in my entire time of playing every pokemon game... I was one of THOSE people who encountered a shiny in Silver on my first playthrough (i never even knew what Repels did at the time), thought something was wrong, so i reset the game to correct the "mistake". It then took until my sixth playthrough of Y until i encountered a shiny Ariados from an accidental ceiling drop in Voctory Road! I have found one other shiny in Let's GO, but i don't think it counts as a legit shiny, as i was grinding species candy for my Diglett, and during the catching chain i encountered one, but it was in a proces where i had to encounter somewhere between 200-250 Diglett to get enough candy to max one out on Diglett Candy... I did end up going with the shiny for my team though, and having 200 more than normal in all stats made it pretty trivial that it had one of the worst possible natures for a Diglett: Bold nature! Lowering Attack, boosting Defense...
Haha but of course it would have the worst nature! And now that you mention it I have a faint memory of finding a weird mon in Silver. I'm just blocking it out of my memory tho lol
@@YoBGS It served me well enough, but in truth, i don't really like using shiny pokemon when i play normally... I always play with animations on to get a bit more "game" out of it, and watching the shiny sparkles pop out every time on top of that, quickly makes battles take much longer than they need to! It's also very few shiny pokemon color schemes that i actually i like, like Umbreon, Gardevoir and the swapped colors of the Nidoran lines... All in all, there might be only 20-30 lines of pokemon where i like the shiny colors over the normal ones...

On the topic of Mawile, the jaws off the back of its head are horns, but I think "chomp" is still an appropriate description of their usage. And if New Pokemon Snap is anything to go by, they're capable of eating with both their actual mouth, as well as their horns Just the two cents of a lonely Mawile fan; I've always been fond of the design, ever since catching the Shadow one in XD, but I truly fell in love with it when playing through Y and used it as my main mega. Silvally is probably my #1, but Mawile is absolutely second
She may say that Double Team is not honorable because on Smogon rules, evasion/accuarcy modifications are not allowed, and many people consider it that way
I learned that around the same time I learned that I pretty much pronounce EVERYTHING wrong lol. And that's coming from someone who read Animorphs and screwed all of that up too
Evasion strats are seen as making the game so much about RNG it is not fun to play. It is cheep tactic with few counter play options few moves always hit no matter what and they are not very good strong or common. Competitive Pokemon at least in the signals format is all about standardizing play and making it fair and reasonably predictable and reliable. However evasion strats are allowed in doubles and VGC
I name my mons in many factors but I do take gender into consideration. But even then it might change like two letters or something. When it comes to some Pokémon that have designs separated based on gender I usually do and on one Pokémon line I don’t even capture the male because it looks off to me. Usually I name them names from books or other nerdy stuff.

28:48 Apparently most Nuzlocke rules say you aren't allowed to use any Legendaries. Some allow 1 Legendary, or all "Static Encounters" are allowed separate to the Route-Catch (which is why Fossils are allowed), but it seems most people doing a Nuzlocke either don't or won't use them.
Double Team isn't an honorable strategy in competitive because it stops being about who plays better or who had the better built pokemon , it's just about dodging stuff by rng, and it gets decided by who lands a single hit by sheer chance after dozens of misses. And in base pokemon game, you're putting a lot into RNG, you just Double Team 6 times and attack while you're just hoping you aren't hit. TL;DR people dislike leaving so much to randomness.
That's fair, I suppose in this particular case though where it's not competitive, if your options are to evasion boost and keep the run alive or junk the whole thing, like I feel like that's an exception ya know?
Favourite starter type: grass, usually I'll go for them just for how cool their designs are and each region (besides johto and diamond/pearl) have an option I can use for good fire type rather than the starter. I also just enjoy most grass type starters in battle (except meganium)

@@YoBGS i would be totally up for that. as for some tips i picked up to avoid copyright: making the video a little transparent, not enough to make it unwatchable, with something behind it. hiding the screen by a drawing of some sort in dialogue scenes and such, or putting just a quarter of the screen in (it works best in segments, like doing it for half a scene and such). some channels just like to cut most of their shows (making it more like an episode highlight usually for people who already watched). i can give you links to multiple channels that react to mha or just in general.

There is no honor in competitive Pokemon; at most, you have people baiting for forfeits or using Moody Smeargle with Spore and Baton Pass and to be honest, Double Team is kinda pointless compared to Spore and especially Minimize.
Even as a casual the idea that you can spam evasion boosts and ignore everything the game throws at you is really stupid. It's not fun to play against a trainer or boss who does that, you don't feel like your getting outplayed and need to get good, they are just spamming a move doesn't require setup to be immediately effective. Taunt counters that but the games are really bad about encouraging any playstyle beyond attack and occasionally spread status (mostly paralysis and sleep really), so I doubt many casuals remember it exists let alone if there are any available pokemon that can learn it.
That makes sense and I get that spamming it to cheese the entire game would be one thing. But in a Nuzlocke challenge, when your options are to cheese a battle or throw the entire thing, I feel like that particular scenario gives a little more leeway for cheesing a battle.
Nuzleaf is pretty weak and doesn't learn good moves so his death was bound to happen during the nuzlocke and magneton survived the earthquake thanks to the hp evs that marills give
YoBGS I am new here also to answer your question people do not think it is a honorable strategy because it make the users dodging better and sometimes it gets annoying but you are right I don’t think Double Team is that bad of a move but it has its moments where it gets annoying
if you worry about evs you go in hard on one or 2 stats. but i usually dont unless im making a comp mon. and about double team people in competitive just hate it cause it adds even more rng to moves hitting. offline i dont care what i use as long as it works

Jaiden only chooses torchic bcs it's her favourite you can go to any Professional nuzlocker and see that they chose mudkip reason: it's good against FOUR OF the eight gyms in the region also it resists the last gym if the last gym in rs and also oras also in kanto speedruners sure do use squirtle but they just use it for hm and replace it but just like mudkip bulbasaur is the greatest options here it's good against the two early gym which is really great it resist the next 2 gyms it's good against every Giovanni battle and for else they are like where gen 1 has a weird design that you can battle them in any order in blain case first beat kogga then so you can surf that means you can easily destroy blain so you see fire start suck like they are THE worst to pick in gen 1 and three there are other gens where this is happening but it will take too much time just don't say that fire starters are best in every generation.
Also fire starters are not hard to find in gen one you get arcanine ninetails rapidash magmar moltres. You got a lot of other options but sure the other types got a lot more options but bcs they are mimiced from real life there are So many water Pokemon(fun fact the most amount of the Pokemon out of every Pokemon are water types)Just like our oceans it isa straight mimic bcs there are so many water creatures and we only haven't even discoverd 97% of our oceans just like plants there are so many plants but there is only fire like it's just one thing so yeah but you got more options like in gen 4 they cut out the national dex in dp but they bring it back in platinum so who plays even dp over platinum now days it's just dp but better.

Let me explain: Everyone HATES Double Team. Whenever the opponent uses Double Team, they're going to be MAD about it. Everyone hates evasion. Nothing is more frustrating in Pokemon than not getting to attack.

I need to honor their sacrifices, and at least achieve the goal I set out to do in the first place! Honestly, a lot of it is my own mistakes. I'm not so good with the type advantages once you get into steel, dragon, poison, etc, especially with duel types. A lot of it was keeping the wrong mon out front and them getting one shotted.
I have 6 of the 8 badges in Pokemon X so far, and I plan on continuing the locke in Alpha Sapphire and Ultra Sun, writing a continuous story from the perspective of the trainer. It was actually Jaiden that inspired me to do this nuzlocke in the first place, and I hope to post my story here on youtube as a narrated comic, as animation is a bit outside my skill range.
Here's to Sparkpowder the spewpa, Muffs the ledyba, Scorpion the croagunk, Pinecone the Quilladin (my starter :( ), Sarge the litleo, Wriggles the Spoink, Dune the hippopotas, Polly the minun, Hummer the yanma, Refract the Amaura, Deadra the axew, Bronze the solrock, Yoka the exeggcute, and Fee Fie Foe the dugtrio. It's because of them and my surviving members that I've gotten as far as I did, and hopefully will get to the end.

@@YoBGS The deaths are kind of the point of the nuzlocke. Sometimes things wont go the way you want them to and you have to adapt to that. You end up using pokemon you never would under normal conditions and you end up with some pokemon you looked down on turning into heroes of the run. Resetting the game just because things arent going optimally goes against the spirit of a nuzlocke. You keep going as long you have even a single pokemon left trying to turn a bad situation arround. I've only had one of the first 6 pokemon I catch make it to the very end once. But usually my team at the end is completely different from the start.

Originally 4KIDS handled the English dub of the pokemon anime (until 2005) and they were allowed to pronounce the pokemon names however they wanted. Different studios have done the dub since but all of them were closely monitored by the Pokemon Company to make sure they were correct. This is where inconsistent pronunciations come from (with the exception of Arceus).

Crits are evil. So many dead pokemon from crits, so many failed captures from crits. On average it seems I end up with around 10 deaths in nuzlockes, usually early on.
A good example of how fast you can lose a pokemon to crits can be found in AT4W's Randomized Nuzlock streams for Pokemon Heartgold (and others, he's done it for like 3 games). Poor Sharklameign the Sharpedo and Balteau the Suicune, you will be missed.

Thats not really true. Theres like 1000+ different variations of nuzlockes with differing rules. Some allow legendaries, some don't. For example some people have a "dragon rage" clause which doesn't count deaths from moves that do a set amount of dmg before one of your pokemon has more HP than 40. Others have rules that prevent in battle items being used and etc. The only definitive rules for something to be considered a nuzlocke are:
1. Can only catch first pokemon on a route
2. Deaths are permanent
3. Pokemon must be nickamed

The reason for ZipZapZop's survival is, i believe, that she was beating Marills. Marill gives HP EVs, so that could possibly have given it enough HP to tank the hit, possibly in addition to a low roll.

Also, as to not using Groudon, a lot of people (myself included) choose not to use legendaries since that'd generally be too easy.

I am a regular Nuzlocker, and lemme tell you, most of the time I can’t even get to the elite four, so the fact she managed to win, even if Ari and Teriyaki are the only survivors, for her FIRST RUN, is impressive
After watching a certain poketuber's reaction to this video, it came to my attention that the HP EVs that Marill gives combined with Magneton's naturally good physical defense stat is what allowed it to survive Altaria's earthquake.
So yeah, Marill was literally the perfect training dummy.
Given Jaiden’s math and her cooking mama stuff, I wouldn’t put it past her to have chosen Marill to grind on for that exact reason honestly.
I wrote my own Nuzlocke fanfic on DeviantART while I was doing my first Nuzlocke earlier this year in LeafGreen! I wrote it out in-character as if they were diary entries! Jaiden's video was one of my inspirations to do it and I had fun! I managed to get through the whole thing with only five casualties and my starter survived to the end!

In Nuzlockes (or at least the ones I've seen), you can catch Legendary Pokemon to avoid a difficult battle and/or a potential death but you can't use them

I usualy don't use legendaries because it both makes the game too easy and because I'm not attached to it like the rest of the team.
It really isn't (at least to my knowledge, haven't been here for that long!) what this channel is about, but I would love to watch you attempt a nuzlocke run! I feel like the way you commentate these videos would really benefit it!
I also highly recommend checking some of the videos by Pokémon Challenges, he pretty much only does nuzlockes (especially some on those hard romhacks like Kaizo Blue). His explanations are really thorough and informative. He also is one of those people who stack on multiple other rules (Can't outlevel gym leaders Pokémon, must play on set mode etc.)

I always forget to use repels so I feel like I've run into a LOT more random encounters than I would've otherwise
The only Shiny I ever saw was when my brother encountered and caught a shiny Combee in Pokémon sword.
I shiny hunt and I have caught, in Lets go Eevee, about 10 shinies. It is a GRIND
My only shiny encounter has been a Growlithe, and that in the first game I played. I already had four, though, with two leveled up real high (one had Intimidate, and one was, like, resistant to fire moves, whatever that ability is), so I didn't get to use it. Rip shiny Growlithe in the box

First starter? Used to be always Grass, but now I'm more in the "never fire" category. Not that I'm against fire types in general, but the fire starters just appeal to me less for some reason.
In later gens there are a lot cooler fire types. Like Volcarona! So it makes up the difference. In gen 1 you pretty much have fire starter, ponyta, or growlithe and that's about it lol

I don't personally have a type preference for starters; I usually go in blind, look at the three given and pick the one that appeals the most.
Naming though, I absolutely take gender into account, which does affects some predetermined names I have. For example I always name Venusaur 'Venny' as a homage to the Venusaur my younger self stuck by back in the days of Pokémon Blue, but if it's a girl, then it becomes 'Venni'.
EVs and IVs I don't particularly care about until after I've gone through the game once and then some, then I'm immediately in competitive mode, researching everything I've missed and breeding the mons I like to be the best they can be, even if they're not exactly best suited for actual competitive.
I love that! Like, a lot. Especially bc I have a lot of speedrunner friends that will play immediately to find speedrunning tech and it's, you gotta enjoy the game at least once!
I've always picked water starters. Always. And this ended up working really well with two friends I had, because one always picked fire types and the other always picked grass. Pure coincidence but was amazing

Jaiden inspired me to start my Sword nuzlocke. Rules are normal except sometimes the pokemon is too strong to catch it so I have to catch the first pokemon i am able to catch (i can see the pokemon too so it isnt so random but im a complete beginner). Also cuz I only do it for myself and dont record, I put the dead pokemon in a "RIP" box instead of releasing to have memories. This is my first nuzlocke so what do yall think? I just did the first gym 😆

Edit: Double Team is kinda BS with the evasion hax and turns the battle from strategy to RNG. There are also some bosses in Emerald that are frustrating because of their double team spam
there is nothing wrong with evasion, the "not honorable" stigma comes from the idea that winning a fight with evasion that could have been won without it is a bit cowardly. The real origins of it comes from the smogon format, in which the butt hurt veterans at the top of the ladder with all the authority to change the format's rules decided to ban evasion tactics all together because they were not fun to fight against. Whether or not you agree with the decision, smogon's reputation has done nothing but plummet over time after the decision, as the existence of bans created problems they had to solve with further bans, to the point that the format is so rigid that it seems like there are a total of 10 legal pokemon in the format, and the ones who decide what gets banned are too afraid of change and try to bend the format so that they never have to change their team to win the format events. smogon is not official, and as before stated, all the problems are byproducts of their own restrictions. The evasion they hate so much has built in counters in the form of never-miss moves (anything whos accuracy stat is labeled as "--", like swift) and setup time that the opponent can strike quickly to avoid the problem all together, and the official VCG (whos biggest problem is corruption and hacking) has no such limitation on evasion, yet very few top teams use evasion tactics to win due to how unreliable they are at top levels.
Nuzlocks are challenge runs, and therefore EVs and IVs are not the main focus. Those who are well versed in them and can plan around them might have an advantage, but it is not required. The difficulty of a nuzlock comes mostly down to how it is played. How many extra restrictions (things like never entering your pc to adjust party or never using items in battle unless the pokemon is already holding it)? How willing is the person to grind? a nuzlock that is started by grinding to lvl 100 on the first route is tedious, but makes the challenge generally easier as long as the grinding process does not take unnecessary risks.
For people who want to know why jaiden didn't use groudon it's a common rule not to use legendaries you can catch but not use them

I have only found 2 legit shinies in my entire time of playing every pokemon game... I was one of THOSE people who encountered a shiny in Silver on my first playthrough (i never even knew what Repels did at the time), thought something was wrong, so i reset the game to correct the "mistake". It then took until my sixth playthrough of Y until i encountered a shiny Ariados from an accidental ceiling drop in Voctory Road!
I have found one other shiny in Let's GO, but i don't think it counts as a legit shiny, as i was grinding species candy for my Diglett, and during the catching chain i encountered one, but it was in a proces where i had to encounter somewhere between 200-250 Diglett to get enough candy to max one out on Diglett Candy... I did end up going with the shiny for my team though, and having 200 more than normal in all stats made it pretty trivial that it had one of the worst possible natures for a Diglett: Bold nature! Lowering Attack, boosting Defense...
Haha but of course it would have the worst nature! And now that you mention it I have a faint memory of finding a weird mon in Silver. I'm just blocking it out of my memory tho lol
@@YoBGS It served me well enough, but in truth, i don't really like using shiny pokemon when i play normally... I always play with animations on to get a bit more "game" out of it, and watching the shiny sparkles pop out every time on top of that, quickly makes battles take much longer than they need to!
It's also very few shiny pokemon color schemes that i actually i like, like Umbreon, Gardevoir and the swapped colors of the Nidoran lines...
All in all, there might be only 20-30 lines of pokemon where i like the shiny colors over the normal ones...

On the topic of Mawile, the jaws off the back of its head are horns, but I think "chomp" is still an appropriate description of their usage. And if New Pokemon Snap is anything to go by, they're capable of eating with both their actual mouth, as well as their horns
Just the two cents of a lonely Mawile fan; I've always been fond of the design, ever since catching the Shadow one in XD, but I truly fell in love with it when playing through Y and used it as my main mega. Silvally is probably my #1, but Mawile is absolutely second

Evasion strats are seen as making the game so much about RNG it is not fun to play. It is cheep tactic with few counter play options few moves always hit no matter what and they are not very good strong or common. Competitive Pokemon at least in the signals format is all about standardizing play and making it fair and reasonably predictable and reliable. However evasion strats are allowed in doubles and VGC

I name my mons in many factors but I do take gender into consideration. But even then it might change like two letters or something. When it comes to some Pokémon that have designs separated based on gender I usually do and on one Pokémon line I don’t even capture the male because it looks off to me.
Usually I name them names from books or other nerdy stuff.

28:48 Apparently most Nuzlocke rules say you aren't allowed to use any Legendaries. Some allow 1 Legendary, or all "Static Encounters" are allowed separate to the Route-Catch (which is why Fossils are allowed), but it seems most people doing a Nuzlocke either don't or won't use them.
I dig that, It definitely makes the home stretch of the runs way more difficult, which is really cool!

Double Team isn't an honorable strategy in competitive because it stops being about who plays better or who had the better built pokemon , it's just about dodging stuff by rng, and it gets decided by who lands a single hit by sheer chance after dozens of misses.
And in base pokemon game, you're putting a lot into RNG, you just Double Team 6 times and attack while you're just hoping you aren't hit.
TL;DR people dislike leaving so much to randomness.
That's fair, I suppose in this particular case though where it's not competitive, if your options are to evasion boost and keep the run alive or junk the whole thing, like I feel like that's an exception ya know?
Favourite starter type: grass, usually I'll go for them just for how cool their designs are and each region (besides johto and diamond/pearl) have an option I can use for good fire type rather than the starter. I also just enjoy most grass type starters in battle (except meganium)

making the video a little transparent, not enough to make it unwatchable, with something behind it.
hiding the screen by a drawing of some sort in dialogue scenes and such, or putting just a quarter of the screen in (it works best in segments, like doing it for half a scene and such).
some channels just like to cut most of their shows (making it more like an episode highlight usually for people who already watched).

There is no honor in competitive Pokemon; at most, you have people baiting for forfeits or using Moody Smeargle with Spore and Baton Pass and to be honest, Double Team is kinda pointless compared to Spore and especially Minimize.
I'm liking this for the info although that sounds like a horrid existence lol.
Even as a casual the idea that you can spam evasion boosts and ignore everything the game throws at you is really stupid. It's not fun to play against a trainer or boss who does that, you don't feel like your getting outplayed and need to get good, they are just spamming a move doesn't require setup to be immediately effective. Taunt counters that but the games are really bad about encouraging any playstyle beyond attack and occasionally spread status (mostly paralysis and sleep really), so I doubt many casuals remember it exists let alone if there are any available pokemon that can learn it.
That makes sense and I get that spamming it to cheese the entire game would be one thing. But in a Nuzlocke challenge, when your options are to cheese a battle or throw the entire thing, I feel like that particular scenario gives a little more leeway for cheesing a battle.

Nuzleaf is pretty weak and doesn't learn good moves so his death was bound to happen during the nuzlocke and magneton survived the earthquake thanks to the hp evs that marills give
YoBGS I am new here also to answer your question people do not think it is a honorable strategy because it make the users dodging better and sometimes it gets annoying but you are right I don’t think Double Team is that bad of a move but it has its moments where it gets annoying
I mean I get that you wanna ban it against friends or other people but like if you're playing against the computer I say go for it
if you worry about evs you go in hard on one or 2 stats. but i usually dont unless im making a comp mon.
and about double team people in competitive just hate it cause it adds even more rng to moves hitting. offline i dont care what i use as long as it works
