Lysithea: "Hey Edelgard, how did you know about the blood reconstruction surgery and why is your hair white like mine? It didn't happen until--" Edelgard: "Alright then, how about some cake?" Lysithea: "CAKE!" (Seriously tho, I wish that Edelgard was more open with Lysithea about the experiments she went through since she's willing to tell Byleth about it in their C+ support. It feels like such a missed opportunity.)
I would wager they don't need to revisit the pain they both endured. They lost their brothers and sisters in the efforts of the blood reconstruction surgeries. Survivor's Guilt and the trauma they endured should be more than enough to have them not delve deeper into what they both already experienced.
Fortunately in Three Hopes we see exactly this. Edelgard can afford to be more open and trusting, and we even get a paralogue out of it, shared with Hapi.
It's so great that they both can relate on a fundamental level, while still respecting each others' skills. Truth be told, I was hoping that Lysithea was originally a part of the Black/Red Eagles, but recruiting her is still good too.
Funny you should say that! Joe Zieja is currently streaming his run of Black Eagles (he is doing Crimson Flower), and when he saw this support, he said 100% that student is Hilda.
The only person outside of the Black Eagles that Edelgard has a support with. Those two are truly as close as sisters. Initially, Edelgard took an interest in Lysithea because of their similar horrible pasts of being subject to Crest experiments, but they realized they had more in common than just that. Not just their goals to change the world where only Crests are valued, but also their secretive immature sides, love for sweets, and similar gift tastes, like the Armored Bear Stuffy. Seems that Edelgard trusts her more than any other member of the Black Eagle Strike Force sans Byleth and Hubert if she was informed of the sneak attack when no one else was.
Hanneman, Manuela, and Constance, too. I think you mean the only person outside of the Empire. It could've been nice if she had supports with commoners like Ashe or Leonie, or being a role model with Marianne, or actually deciding on how to reform the church (of Sothis, now) with Mercedes. But yeah, the Edelgard/Lysithea relationship is special. Lysithea is like the sister she's closest to. Bernadetta's like another sister or a mentee. Petra's her close friend, and Dorothea's her best friend.
@@wanderlustwarrior I like how they integrated it with non-BE recruits since Lysithea is one of her most trusted allies when recruited, Constance has obvious ties to the Black Eagle house and by that point has developed good relations with Edelgard which is important considering her goals and Hanneman and Manuela (who both canonically side with the Edelgard in other routes) are both trusted high ranking military personnel.
I love the epilogue detail at the end. It implies a few things: 1. Edelgard and Lysithea both discover a means to prolong their lives, beyond the short period they have left. Making Edelgard, Hanneman, Byleth, and Lindhart as the only supports that gives Lysithea a longer life. 2. They both get justice upon those who tortured and violated them in the efforts of implanting crests in them. 3. Those who Slither in the Dark pay the price for their actions against Fodlan.
Another nice detail, albeit from another route is Lysithea she honors Edelgard (she finds out about their similar situation too late) after her death by promising to obliterate those who slither in the dark so no one has go experience what both of them went through.
@@jkarma3356 The Edelgard/Lysithea paired ending states both of their lifespans were shortened because of the Agarthans, although she likely doesn't need Lysithea's paired ending for her to recover her lifespan.
Based on their ending fighting those who slither in the dark i can see how Edelgard and Lysithea as well as Byleth and Jeritza parallel. Edelgard: Byleth and I are adopting a child
Lysithea: Oh really? That’s nice-

You do know Lysithea's parents are still alive, right? Even if they weren't, Edelgard would adopt her as a younger sister.

I imagine Byleth and Edelgard's children would call Lysithea and her husband "Aunt" and "Uncle".

Edelgard being a mother/older sister is the best
She's the mother of the Black Eagles, just like Dimitri and Claude are the fathers of their houses.
