It's funny because I've been quite depressed after a récent break-down and I've been craving bananas. It was a great comfort food. I feel better now, it may have helped.
Thank you for this I'm really suffering at the moment and like you said you can't always trust what you read online! As always this was so informative and yet easily digestible rather like a banana xx
Thank You for your comment and I'm sorry to hear you are suffering at the moment. I managed my depression and I manage low moods now, by focusing on three main things: having a regular sleep pattern (not too much, not too little), eating properly (again, not too much, not too little, and not junk) and exercise. I'd like to do more videos focusing on depression in the future, if that would be helpful?
ScienceSheWrote that would be wonderful! I have had it since I was 14 but now I'm disabled with fibromyalgia and an anxiety disorder and both bring depression plus I'm housebound so I try to meditate and do yoga but sometimes it gets too much. More videos with tips and tricks and ideas would be wonderful thank you
So there's not much point to bannanas. I've been eating loads, at least 3 a day as they're on sale here. Though I've been selecting the most raw ones, to decrease sugar intake.
Your videos have great content and quality! Congrats on the new job! I hope it leaves you some time to make videos, because I just subscribed and I'm excited to see more.
Thank you so much :) I'm settling into my new job, and planning to film my next video this week! I'll hopefully also be shooting some videos as part of my job which will go on another channel 👍I'll posts details soon!
love your videos! this one was especially interesting for me because im in school to be a counselor. can't wait for more! I love science and I love your accent :)
Thank You! 😊 I've never really been a fan of my accent, and my partner says I keep saying words with the American pronunciation rather than the English.....too much time spent watching American TV series 😂
I recently found your channel (Thanks, menstrual-cup research!) and like your videos a lot but sometimes find them a little hard to follow. Especially with this one - you're talking in detailed sentences and scientifically correct terms (I assume), but also quiet fast, so I had to go back and rewatch some sequences. Part of it may be the language barrier for me, but you could also take a breath and include a brief pause every once in a while. ;-) Which brings me to my question: Do you script your texts for the videos beforehand and read them off or are you actually just talking science? Thanks for creating these bits of info-tainment and good luck on the new job!
Hi - Thank You for your comment! I'm still finding my way a bit in making videos so I really appreciate your feedback! I do have an issue with speed of speech sometimes, so I'll try to slow it down a little. I tend to do research and write a brief script before filming, mainly just to ensure I include all the science information that I want to include in a logical order. But quite often there is significant editing and re-wording going on whilst I film as some things come across differently when reading them out loud, some sentences are too much of a tongue-twister, or I think of a better way to word something! Producing videos is VERY different to teaching, so it's a bit of a learning curve! Thank You for the Good Luck! It's my second day and so far it is amazing 👍
I am a new subscriber to your channel and I absolutely love your videos. I'm so looking forward to your videos. I have a suggestion for you though. I watch your videos on my phone and I can barely hear your background music. I like it. It's very cute :) Maybe turn it up a little?
@nidhi Vv Did´nt have a depression but i read a scientific study i think from Phillipines that stated that it was proved that 3 bananas a day has an anti- depression effect because of the levels of serotonin. So try to eat it. One in the morning, another in the afteernoon and another at night. And try to get always busy, it also helps. It is a disease from the soul, the soul is not happy, so embrace the pain, feel it, don´t run away, until you release the pain, do you understand? A big hug for you.
I don't buy it. So what kind of "special serotonin" do you need to consume to increase serotonin levels past the blood brain barrier? ..hmm let me guess, the only way to treat serotonin depletion is with pharmaceutical SSRI's? So these studies always seem to have concluded that diet cannot fix depression, only pills can. That's complete bullshit. Nutrition and exercise are likely the most effective treatments for depression. I understand you're only talking about what science tells us, but these studies aren't science, they're politics. Just another way for the pharmaceutical industry to maintain their firm grip on the first world medical system. Of course they won't support any study revealing that food you can buy for a dollar at the supermarket is more effective than a $100 a month prescription medication..
I love how clearly you explain things, I've learned a lot in 6 minutes thank you!!
You're welcome! It wasn't an easy one to make so I'm glad you enjoyed it 👍
thanks for being so straight to the point!
loved the vid, u earned a subscriber!
You really should make more videos about depression! Congratulations
Thank you! I definitely have more planned, but if there is anything in particular you would like me to do a video about, please let me know 👍

The science says bananas don't help depression....but whatever food helps you to feel better is good food in my book 👍
ScienceSheWrote yep I posted the comment before watching the video and I thought I had deleted it... Sorry... But yeah bananas are great anyway!
great video as always

I ate one and my depression was instantly lifted
@nidhi Vv You have to eat them everyday,
say some prayers to and talk to a therapist, i deal with mild depression ,
U still did say how to treat depression
You should watch CGP Grey's video on 7 Ways to Maximize Misery if you haven't!

You're awesome yay female scientists keep doing what you're doing
Thank You😄 I shall!👍
Serotonin does not treat depression
Wrong. 3 bananas a day make you feel better.
@nidhi Vv Eat it every day until you get better.

make a video about feminism
I'm actually hoping to do a collab in the near future that will look at women in science, so hopefully that will fulfil the feminism criteria! :)
ScienceSheWrote Cool :)
