@@crystalnewbold626 exactly Mormons have to pay tithing to be able to go to the temple. They make you have a private meeting with the bishop twice a year making sure you are paying that tithing it's crazy even the kids 😂😂😂
This might be a ploy to keep poor people away from them. Soo much for being religious 😂. I have debated some so called Christians and they say my view of the Bible is a “utopia” 😂 Some twist everything to fit an already established agenda they hold.
I’ve been a ministry volunteer for almost 20 years in a church ten times the size of this and not once have I ever been required or pressured to pay anything to attend. Offerings are exactly that: offering. You OFFER to donate to upkeep the location, the activities, the funded missionaries overseas, etc. Once a month, we have an open meeting that discusses all income that was provided to the church and how they are going to use it and even though not everybody is interested, everyone is invited to sit and listen. Church is supposed to be a safe community to worship with people that pull together what they can and offer help to those in need, not some narcissistic country club.
I grew up in church, small and large all had the same structure, you can come and worship and talk to people as much as you want, but if you want to be a member or help out with something you had to give at least 10% of every paycheck, kids are encouraged too. Some even have something called a “faith promise card” where you pledge with your signature that you’ll give a certain amount for a year. I get small churches needing cash but big churches certainly don’t need more, and it definitely should not be a requirement. If you refuse you’re looked down on. Churches that do this need to change, especially with today’s crisis
Indeed. But nobody questions how the pastors or priests, or whatever you call them are living. Fast cars big houses, children go to the best schools, golf courses etc, etc,. And it is all despicable, they are not preaching and Living by EVERYTHING the Bible says! It teaches humility, and living a humble life. Just not for the shepards,it is okay for the sheeple though!

I’ve never been to or heard of a church that requires 10% of your earnings in order to be a member. They certainly never asked for a tax return to make sure people were tithing enough. That sounds insane to me, I would run the other direction.
@@seabreeze667 I understand that’s what people say about the kardashian church. I was referencing the google review that said a 10% tithe and access to your tax return was normal at churches. It’s not.
Yeah, LDS encourages tithing, but you'd never be shamed or kicked out for not paying. It's mostly giving food storage to those in need and contributing to stuff like new buildings, temples, and even smaller stuff like paying for youth programs such as camp or FSY. My parents have always paid their tithing as well, even when we were struggling financially, because they knew if we were ever in real trouble, with food or anything, we'd be able to ask the church. That's what the tithing is for, and that's what we're giving to others who are going through the same thing.
@@Abigail_Monteith well it is strongly encouraged. Through means of manipulation and just making you feel like you should so, most do. If you don't for a while the bishop or the accountant will have a discreet private meeting with you. I doing remember some meetings were private growing up. Oh yeah, My dad was an accountant for the 28th ward back in the late 90s to 2000. I remember him telling me some stuff about it. But my Mom would force my siblings and me to always put aside 10% for our tithe from our allowance when we were kids. And she would make us feel bad if we complained Hahaha but yeah you're right
@@klakatyklak6826 lol yeah, well the reason for that is more religious. It's believed that when you give to the lord you also receive, which is another reason so many people do still pay tithing even in an economy like this one. It's also why so many parents teach their kids to give tithing with their allowance, so they can realize how even a little bit can go a long way. The bishop may meet with you for the same reason. They believe you could be missing some blessings you could receive if you were giving tithing. Like I said though, it all depends on what you believe in at the end of the day.
I can't even begin to express how repugnant it is for these predatory churches to tell poor people to donate the very last of their money. These people are facing literal destitution. The church should be giving THEM money.
I’ve never heard of a church asking to see tax returns to make sure that you’re giving 10% of your income. The church I went to as a kid you always have what you could.
The thing is... this is a pretty common practice in a lot of evangelical/protestant churches in the US. At least the more "organized" ones. I specify protestant and evangelical because I'm catholic and I've never once been told any form of donation is a necessity, let alone something as extreme as an exact 10% of your monthly taxable income. Idk if the Orthodox are different though. Do let me know if you have experience.
As someone from the south who grew up very involved in a protestant denomination (my mom was a pastor so I ended up having to be at church often), the 10% thing was a thing but it wasn't something that was _required_ , it was just encouraged if you could afford it. And the money would go towards the expenses required to run the church, which I really doubt is the case for the one in the video
I remember watching the og kardashians show with my grams (she loved those shows) and it made no sense to me. I watched an episode or two of the new one on Hulu and I just sat there like. What buffoonery. Nobody needs that much money. Like for what. Your bills are nonexistent. You have more than you could ever need. Your homes and clothes are insane for the price and how large they are. It’s just insanity.
A lot of utilities are run by private companies and not like this city or state. It's part of the reason they can just jack up their prices anytime they want.

I don’t know of a single church in the modern day that requires a monthly subscription, a tithe, and your tax return!?! They get protected status so they don’t require these from the communities coffers. Too many “churches” are using this protected status for greedy means, and it disgusts me.
I've been on staff or volunteer leadership at several churches. 10% is a reference point that many follow but there is no set number. Some don't give at all, some give much more than 10%. It is true that some churches do require you to regularly give to be a member and that CAN be done without it being a big deal, it's a red flag imo. No church I have ever heard of asks for tax returns
The Kardashians being behind the church was already a red flag, but that “most churches require you to show your tax forms so you can pay 10% as a tithe” thing? They’re not even trying to hide how shady this is
I've never experienced a church like this. The ones I've been to always just say give what you feel like giving or can give. You put it in the plate/basket and no one asks you about it or cares that much. Weird.
I normally like your videos but, I typically wait until the end. However, this time I did it right after you said it makes an explosion and you weren't lying. I love you, Caleb.
I grew up around evangelicals and I never heard about poking around in your finances but generally its encouraged to give 10% for the pastor and doing things to encourage people to visit (like dinners, games, and fun stuff for kids. I enjoyed those activities as a kid. I later went to a less conservative church and had a blast. I miss it. I hate to see scams, its sad. If they want anything about your finances, run!
I am actually the custodian at my church and I’m on the payroll there for it. There are local taxes and employment taxes taken out of my check, however, not federal. So there’s not really any tax benefits to working there but it’s my church. I also own a cleaning company and there’s where I pay all my self employment taxes 🤦🏻♀️ which is unbelievably high
A church has to have money to run, there’s costs associated with everything (property expenses, payroll expenses, etc) but idk about The Kardashian church…but my church doesn’t even pass a plate anymore. We have a box at the back and anyone who wants to tithe, can. There’s also mailing in checks, or donating online as well. But we don’t ask anyone for money much less their tax returns!
I went to a Baptist church growing up. 10% is normal for a tithe but the church never made it mandatory for membership, also didn't ask for tax returns.
17:00 They're right when they call tithing normal, it's generally seen as a goal though and not a mandatory minimum payment. But no normal church will ask you for a tax return to "prove you're tithing"
According to the Bible, tithes are meant to FUND the church. As in Bibles for the church, events and ceremonies, etc etc. it’s not meant to fund a luxury lifestyle for the pastor, it’s meant to go back to the community. I’m not a Christian anymore but I studied this back when I was!
Tithing is absolutely a normal thing at churches, albeit its normally an encouraged thing, not enforced. Its a way to both pay for the church as well as help the members or the community. Done correctly without the corruption of people/denominations, tithe is a great system that actually started things like Salvation Army and many other large humaitarian efforts.
it is, but its also a questionable tactic that lets be honest, churches started. Not the person everyone looks up to. His emphasis was on helping people who couldnt afford a tithe, and the expectation of these things is to go towards that. Not towards a new "rec room". and its certainly not something that is meant to gatekeep the less fortunate from the building.
Enforced tithing for membership is shockingly common if you want to become a "member" vs someone who just attends services. I know of multiple churches in my area that operate off this business model
@@picklelord4932 Denominations are definitely more likely as well as mega church types. I definitely agree the more business minded a church forms, with all the executives and boards, the more likely they are to be greedy.
Every church I’ve been to never expected you to donate. Not once. The church my dad and step mom used to go to let you come as you are. Whether you were wearing the only clothes you own or if you were part of the LGBT community. They didn’t care. They treated you as equally as everyone else there. They show nothing but kindness and love. When I wanted to get baptized, the pastor was really excited. I backed out, because I became unsure if I wanted to take that step. And he showed me nothing but understanding. All these big churches that force you to pay aren’t churches. They’re businesses that care about nothing more than the money they make from people. Some who genuinely believe that in order to prove their faith they have to pay to worship. It’s horrible and evil.

I can't speak for all but I can say from personal experience that UMC in my area donates heavily to outreach programs for homeless and suffering people. Not only that, they help struggling families pay for their bills in the event they can't and ask for the assistance. This is a disgusting misrepresentation of tithing and should be shunned from Christians and non Christians alike.

16:26 I asked my dad about this, since we've been members at churches. No. U need to pay $1000 membership fee + 10% of your income, not just 10% of your income.
@@seabreeze667 I understand that’s what people say about the kardashian church. I was referencing the google review that said a 10% tithe and access to your tax return was normal at churches. It’s not.

Yes that's true. I grew up in a LDS family and they still today collect 10% tithing from members. My parents still pay it in their church ward
Lsd family sounds dope!
Thanks!
I can't even begin to express how repugnant it is for these predatory churches to tell poor people to donate the very last of their money. These people are facing literal destitution. The church should be giving THEM money.

I specify protestant and evangelical because I'm catholic and I've never once been told any form of donation is a necessity, let alone something as extreme as an exact 10% of your monthly taxable income.

As someone from the south who grew up very involved in a protestant denomination (my mom was a pastor so I ended up having to be at church often), the 10% thing was a thing but it wasn't something that was _required_ , it was just encouraged if you could afford it.
I went to a Baptist church growing up. 10% is normal for a tithe but the church never made it mandatory for membership, also didn't ask for tax returns.
You didn't even mention that their father was OJs lawyer.

“It looks like if Texas and Afghanistan had a child” yup
Close, but that unholy offspring is actually Bakersfield.
My church of 46 years never once asked me for money. Just saying.
