Great interview. Didn't like the teams that Riley coached or him personally, but I gotta respect him as a coach.

I hear u. Riley was the kind of guy u hated as the opposing coach but loved to have on ur side. Being a kid in the 90s living outside nyc the Knicks were always on the tv in my house or at family occasions & i started to pick up on all the guys in the house excitement. The first game I payed attention to was the knicks vs bulls in 92 game 6 & my dad was like screaming to my uncle my brothers his nephews " we got the greatest player on the planet on the ropes " of course mj who my dad hated lol. He took great pleasure in seeing mj lose. As a Knicks fan in the early 90s I'm sure anyone can understand. Lol but the game that hooked me was the last 5 min of game 2 knicks v bulls & I saw starks dunk on the bulls & u just knew that play was so special. Thos cba kid showing up the goat & mj got the ball stolen by starks & his final shot was an airball. The next day all the gambling photos came out from mj going to atl city into the morning hours of game 2. This was major drama. Like a soap opera . I was hooked ever since. The cover of the ny paper was " air is human " I give riley credit b/c just by him coming here it gave the Knicks major clout. I see many people agree that the 90a knicks bulls games really were battles . Someone mentioned in game 3 where the bulls are up by 20 the teams both are playing this hard defense that's how u know it's a bloodbath & war. Lol. Of course pippen famously sitting out was vs the Knicks. Every series every year was filled w/ drama. That game pip sat out had everything a bench clearing brawl. A miraculous knick comeback down 22 in the 4th to tie a game winning shot & then the scottie incident that is still such a big thing today. Yea those early 90s were legendary. Look at the jordan Thomas fued mj still says he hates him to this day. Or laimbeer & bird still making comments insulting the other. Now its so friendly.

Riley would have been a great football coach, and Otis Taylor would have been his Magic Johnson.

Riley did a good but made that bad move not keeping x man & mark jackson to get charles smith. In 92 they took mjs bulls to 7. They destroyed them in game 6. Frontline of ewing oak X & mason was scary very good interview about his dad. Sad his dad was a minor league coach for 25 yrs & never got his shot to be coach that will make u bitter.
