Double Decker Living Root Bridge: These bridges are made from the roots of rubber trees which takes around 20 to 25 years to become strong enough to bear the weight of people crossing it.
Address: Nongriat, Tyrna, Cherrapunji‎, Meghalaya 793111
    Location: tinyurl.com/y2...
You have to walk down 3500 steps to reach this place, just opposite to Double decker root bridge there is a waterfall, if you want to take bath, take your towel along.
You may also want to visit Rainbow waterfall, which will take about one and a half hour from Double decker root bridge.
We started at 11 am, so could not go there but if you start early at around 7 am, you can go there as well.
Over all this journey is tiring, at many places stairs are steep , you should know this in advance but the journey is worth going,
We stayed at Cherrapunjee Holiday Resort Laitkynsew: this resort is on outskirts of Sohra.
Waterfalls and Arwah cave or Mawsmail are at distance of more than 10 or 13 kms but double decker root bridge is about 5 km from this resort.

Northeast is mostly a hilly region and it is one of the highest rainfall place in the world and it's not always convenient to go to market buy food on daily basis and also weather is very suitable for fermentation as fermented food can be stored for longer period due to pleasent cold weather so this way we developed the habit of buying meat/fish/other food in bulk and ferment it so that we cud eat it at any time of the year

Great info. Thanx. I am a bit surprised to hear this because I am under the impression that fermentation required a cold and dry atmosphere ... but it may not be so dry with all the raining, right? Anyways, thanx for sharing this tid-bit of info about an area which is fast growing into my favouritest!! place ... all thanx to Baliji :)

These bridges were always there from centuries but our geography books never mentioned them. It was only till BBC made a documentary (Human Planet) when I learned about it. It is not a natural wonder, it his hard work and patience of generations. These bridges are special, they are alive, they get stronger and stronger as trees grow and they will never collapse. These are most eco friendly bridges !

I personally love all the states of northeast specially Meghalaya because of there natural beauty, culture, lovely weather, traditional food, climate, dressing style, peaceful environment.. everything's are awesome. All the states of northeast are amazing than the other states of India. I would suggest everyone that please come in northeast and enjoy your life in green forest and peaceful environment with positive thoughts and mind. Whenever you will come in Meghalaya, you can feel the vibration of nature and you can see lot of clouds floating together over the hills. Basically I don't have words to describe or define about this place how beautiful this place is ! Whenever you will come here, I am pretty sure that you will not feel like leaving this place. I am feeling proud that I am also from northeast(Agartala Tripura).

As North eastern states are hilly terrain n the indigenous tribes have since long back been residents of the hilly terrain. Until the first half of the last century, many tribes were dependant on hunting n gathering apart from shifting cultivation. Therefore, one of the reason that we prefer fermented food n also smoked meats or fish is due to this practice to preserve our food stocks even at hard times when hunting maybe not possible or shifting cultivation may not yield adequate food items. There may be also many other reasons specific to certain tribes of certain geographic locations within the Northeast

: North East India is characterized by a diverse population of people with totally different ethnic background. Most of the individuals of this region are tribal and bear their own ways of osmosis food materials for the purpose of preservation and style improvement and that they are carrying these from past times. All the soured product are region specific and have their own distinctive substrates and preparation ways. Materials like soybeans, bamboo shoots and regionally out there vegetables are usually soured by most of the tribes.

I wish you stay at a jungle/jungle stay sometime in future and present us the experience. The presentation of travel journey without any clutter is your USP which I personally like it very much because it gives the video a very clean look. Keep up the exploration.

I've been there for the last Christmas, in the same room as you and only at the first bridge. Dead tired. Great hospitality and food at the resort. Thank you.
