This is actually a cover! Kanzaki Iori is the writer and producer of the original song. The original vocals are actually synthesized. I love the original for the vocal harmonies - it has a lot of that lower voice in uncomfortable intervals to the main, and many of the verses have a spacey higher 5th interval harmony that is really haunting. The Vocaloid sounds so harsh compared to the warmth of a human singing. Mafumafu's delivery of this song is incredible but it is also interesting to listen to the original as well as Iori Kanzaki's own vocal cover of it.

mafu is such a singer dude
just knows how to achieve a very clean falsetto and blend it with a pure mixed voice
i'd recommend listening to miy yuu's Kilmaa. the song goes hard and the groove there is pretty good sometimes. that singer also got these interesting high pitched vocals.

oh my god YES I was hoping you'd react to this song at some point! As some of the other comments already noted, this was originally a Vocaloid song by Iori Kanzaki with Hatsune Miku singing, but I gotta say, the tuning style for Miku in the original is... odd. Even most hardcore Vocaloid fans tend to prefer covers over the original, and this cover is by far the most beloved for Mafumafu's sheer intensity. That said, there's a live concert arrangement of this song (performed at Magical Mirai 2020) with Miku's vocals newly retuned, and it sounds GORGEOUS. It's a much slower arrangement, more of a melancholy feel than the original's frantic despair, but in that final chorus when the lyrics turn just a little more hopeful, that arrangement NAILS the shift. Again, that version has Miku's vocals, and we all know you have mixed feelings about her sound, but the performance is nonetheless very much worth checking out.

I feel blessed today that I got to listen to someone discribing music as I feel it myself. I am not native in english but understand it very well but when I listen to music I always connect with music composition before listening the what the lyrics actually say. So refreshing to see I'm not alone in this

Its interesting that in this song it says 2 times how we contradict ourselves by
"not caring if we die, but are sad if someone else dies"
And at the end the lyrics tell us how nothing matters to it as long as the listener(us) are alive, telling the same contradiction.
Aka hes human too, knows his belief is kinda stupid by logic(not complaining just saying how i understood), but hes still human and would be hurt if any of his fans died.

finally this song and mafumafu's cover gets more of the praise it deserves. 142m views in 5 years i know but still i think it needs to reach more people as it really has potential to save a life and resonate with the right individuals that need to hear it/the message.

This is a song the vocalist is literally screaming out to the world. Thats the point, it’s almost formatted like a cry for help, which is what makes it so touching. She’s asking both herself and us what the point of living is, why have we lived life and continue on? And the answer is literally a guttural scream of “MAYBE THATS WHAT I’VE BEEN SINGING FOR”, (for “you”)”. Her answer at least is that she lives her life for someone else, and the sad part is Thats extremely relatable for everyone who listens… theres a good reason why this song has so many views.

We totally get that. I tried as well but I was losing both as I tried. I think most of us would be fine to listening to it twice so you could first do the music side then the lyrics. It’s not like you do that all the time. To be honest with a special song like this (in another language) you kinda have to. I never heard this song before. It’s pretty fantastic. I usually listen to heavy metal. But I love music. So I have lots of songs I really like in many other genres. This song is going to make me look up this group. It’s that good.
Anyways, we appreciate you. I really enjoy your enthusiasm for music and the way you explain it all. Great channel, great content. You also have some great subscribers. The requests are always good if not interesting. Most often both. 😀

it's a beautiful song with lyrics that struck me the first time I read them. Personally, I prefer the cover by Kanade from Project Sekai. I feel like it portrays a more weary facet of life, but with a faint glimmer of hope

My favorite part of this song will always be the way they rewrite live to just live at the end for some reason the very slight difference between how they’re both written is so beautiful too me and I love the whole song but keep falling for that somehow

The original componer si called Iori kanzaki and also has way too great songs, sometimes he uses Vocaloid, but he sings himself very often!

If it does help, there are many English covers that help to focus more on the music itself. Japanese or English this song is an absolute head bop.

I love that song so much. Even when I didn't read the lyrics, I could just feel this kind of desperation in the music, the way it was made with Mafumafu's voice. And then I read the lyrics and just came to like it even more. I listen to it whenever I feel sad, to cry a bunch while trying to get over my hard times, and keep going.
I also like the original version but this one really hits me and resonates with my heart and soul.

I concur with the sentiments. I would like to see your music analysis at the start and then analyse peripheral domains like emotion, lyrics, how the music contains meaning in relation to the written piece... with a second listen.

I still prefer the Miku version and the title "Hated by Life Itself" but Mafu does a pretty good job.
I recommend Kanzaki Iori's other song "I Want to be Your God" with Hatsune Miku, it's also one where you should look at the lyrics, and I know Miku isn't your favorite but she is tuned differently than usual if that helps.
