I’ve been thinking about that myself, but from the perspective of how fast you can recal the replay. And that depends on the sport. Basketball and Hockey are more fast paced than Football and Baseball. And I think for national broadcast sports there are at least two people running replay. So you could effectively assign one person to instant replays and a second replay tech to compile highlights. And all of this is dependent on the director’s style. I worked on a college basketball co trol room crew where there was one guy running two SportBuf replay machines-doing instant replays and clipping and compiling highlights. It was amazing watching him work.
