This is a perfect delivery. The tutorial I have been waiting for, for ages. Thank you very much Sir. We need more of your well explained video on other structural members.
Thank you so much for this clearly and well illustrated video. You really touched and turn my life around with your video. May God continue to bless you sir. Thanks in a big time. Please more videos from Raft and pile foundations. Thank you so much sir.
Thank you very much Dr. for doing well illustrative and elaborated tutorials on footing design that I has requested earlier . I humbly request for rc design of retaining walls. Gracias Sir,
Thank very much Dr for your tutorials they are very educative, before you finish with foundation educate us also on combined, strap and raft footings, this is a kind request doctor shariff.
first thanks for the great effort, why you compare the value of (400/d) ¼ with 1 ? the BS8110 mention that in table 3.8 it should not be taken as less than 0.67 for members without shear reinforcement;
Thank you so much, this lecture is very insightful. Is it safe to exceed the bearing capacity of the soil as in this example? Also, why didn’t you consider the weight of the footing in calculating the soil pressure at ultimate limit state?
Regarding your second part of your question, no need to consider the weight of the footing to calculate the ultimate pressure as the weight of the footing will cancel this increase when calculating moment and shear
Hello Sir, thank you so much for this video. I have a case where case I am finding a punching area Ap to be greater than the Area of footing A. How should I go about this case?
Dr. S. El-Gamal, why not include the weight of the soil above the footing to find its area? Is it not, soil above footing increases the stress on the soil below the footing?
Thaks dr sharif I wanna to ask you a quastion Transverse shear stress or direct shear stress < 2VC shear capacity of the section of footing That compare V

Wonderful work sir. I highly appreciate this. I have a question though. You calculated the soil pressure on the footing for ultimate limit state and got a value higher than the soil pressure. Can that soil sustain that?
Salam Dr. I have a quick question, the allowable bearing pressure in the example is 200 KN/m2, however, in the video minute 15, the earth pressure in the ultimate state calculated is 268.9 KN/m2 which is more than the allowable. Would you please explain to me why did you go more than the allowable? I thought we should design for a max of 200 KN/m2 Thanks for everything. Really enjoyed your video.
The earth pressure at service load should not exceed the allowable one (200). At ultimate load, of course it will be more than 200 and there is no problem about that. Only check at service load.
Thanks Dr.sherif Ihave question. Why used 400/d =1. BS9810 permitted to use it less than 1 put greater than 0.67 for section without shear reinforcement like foundations.
Thank you for your interest. Table 3.8 in the BS8110 states clearly that the 400/d should not be taken less than 1. Which clouse in the code states that it can be taken up to 0.67?
@@MrElgamal77 in BS 8110_1 from 2002 to the last version of it...the sign of greater (>) is deleated from the table 3.8 . Under the table directly the code permitted to use (400\d)^.25 doesn't take less than 0.67 for members without shear reinforcement and not less than 1 for members with shear reinforcement.

What's the reason why there are rebars for isolated footings with 90 degree bends at both ends? This is what I used to see on site.

Is it safe to exceed the bearing capacity of the soil as in this example?
Also, why didn’t you consider the weight of the footing in calculating the soil pressure at ultimate limit state?
We did not exceed the soil bearing pressure. You need to check this at service load only not at ultimate.
Regarding your second part of your question, no need to consider the weight of the footing to calculate the ultimate pressure as the weight of the footing will cancel this increase when calculating moment and shear
Therefore, no need to consider it.

Yes. You are correct. In the examples, no soil was assumed above the footing.
