I've been running my old gyro from pieces from 3 other gyros and pieces I got from the old BMX shop I worked at.... It's probably 15 yrs old and it still works great, I just had to replace the cable housings a couple of times but other than that its been working great.
Interesting🤔 The Odyssey M2 lever with the M2 cable works well enough for me lol. I just dont know how much I like having one of the cables going underneath the lever... but if it works, it works! But the $8 M2 cable for my M2 lever works for me😂 As always though, great video Brant!
Thanks dude. That would definitely work, but only if I always had a spare cable set on hand. Its such a proprietary design that if you dont have a spare cable and you break one, you're done for the day. With this setup its much easier to get the necessary cable to be up and running again in a few minutes. My brain cant mentally handle a session ending because of a broken cable. haha
@Brant_Moore you should seriously work with a brake company to offer a conversion kit with just the splitter-barrel adjuster piece and the narp. I’m thinking something like a Dia-Tech Lucky Bolt or Odyssey cable lug would also work for this in the lever.
I would absolutely love to if one would be interested. The thing about a knarp like those two is that the hole goes the opposite way through the cylinder that it needs to. You could probably cut it and use the threaded hole for the set screw, but it might allow some play. It’s such a specific thing that it’s hard to find an alternative
@Brant_Moore you don’t think you could remove the set screw and then loop the cable through the hole and out of the threaded set screw hole? Either way, your bmx hacks are awesome, especially when it comes to brakes!
Ahhhh I see what you’re saying! That definitely makes sense and could be solid if you pre bent the cable before putting it through. That’s definitely a good idea man and as long as I can find an extra knarp I’ll try it soon for an upcoming idea I have. Also thank you for the kind words! Hopefully I can come up with more in the future. This one came from just being tired of replacing cables
@Brant_Moore I just did the part where I cut the upper cable connector do to would work with my mono lever. The barrel adjust wouldn’t fit. I might just get a different lever so it’s not a hack job. Any idea how to keep brake arms from rubbing on Ody EVO II’s. They slightly rub and it’s cringy:(
This is rad, and I want to try it when my cable gives out. The best part is that this will work with all the insane bar sizes! What are your thoughts on crossing the brake cables behind the seat tube? I've found that a little bit of housing and zip ties behind the london mod I use protect my frame from cable rub, and crossing them helps the pull be more in line with the actual brake arm movement, making it feel closer to a straight cable. Do you use any special cable lubricant?
Yea man having custom cables is so convenient in a few different ways. The best part too is that you can use any cable inner of the right length to get your bike going again mid session. Literally can go to any wal mart or drug mart or anywhere that sells a brake cable and have it fixed in like 10 minutes. I had a friend who crossed his cables like that one time with a plastic piece that seemed to be made for exactly that. His brakes felt great but I've never messed with it before. Might have to consider it if it can be done without having to adjust cable length. And no, I literally have been using park tool chain lube in my cables...haha
Normally I like Brant’s tips. He generally does a really good job. But this seems like fixing something that isn’t broke. And not particularly well. His dual lower video was on point though.
The kind words are appreciated. Here’s a little explanation....It might not be broken for you, but this is showcasing a solution I came up with for a problem I had. The problem was cables that broke far too often and when I broke them the session was over because you can’t buy replacements just anywhere. This setup allowed me to use a single cable inner that can be literally bought at any bike shop or even Walmart. Anywhere a cable is sold. So the cable can be replaced and the session can move on. I also keep inner cables in my bag so that if I break an upper or a lower, I can use the exact same cable to fix either. TLDR: this was a solution for me and other people asked for a video on how I did it, so I made them and kept them updated.
@Brant_Moore I get that and I love your channel. I can see how this may be useful for those that have issues like this that happen regularly. But since you responded, I’d like to let you know that using the v-brake noodle and looping the knarp on the dual lower cable setup was a game changer for me! Keep it up!
Yea man, for the vast majority of people there’s just no reason to use this upper cable setup. But it is super awesome to hear that about the lower setup helping you!! Thanks man!
I made my own piece from the snafu cable set out of an old u brake arm and about a half hour of filing. So far it works great
I'd like to see that!
Can you send some pictures on instagram?

5:03 get some park tool sp-7 side cutter for cutting inner cable hope your good Brant \m/

I know this is old but I recently switched to a mobeus detangler and did this mod. It’s pretty legit!
How’d you do it without set screws on the gyro?

Oh okay that makes perfect sense!
When it comes to the brakes rubbing, is it the arms rubbing each other where they cross?
@Brant_Moore yes exactly! Thanks for getting back to me, you’re one of few that respond to every comment.
@@Scott-to8ri you you did with a other gyro? I don't understand
I solder the ends of my cables, works very well.
Like with normal silver solder? How do you do it? I’ve heard of this for a long time but just havent learned about it yet
@@Brant_Moore the solder used for electronics. Just to keep them from fraying. I find the little ends that get crimped on fall off after awhile.
Subscribed 😎 thanks for the tips dude.
No thank you!
4:18 there outer cable cutters Brant ?
Nice tips!
Thank you! Its tried and true at this point
would this setup work on an odyssey M2 lever? You wouldn't need the snafu piece (3:20), right?
Great hack, that is a really cool setup. 👍👍😁
Ayyyyy youtube is back online! haha
It was down for a bit.
Thanks man!! Tried and true at this point

What type of gyro is that with the set screws?
The old version of the Odyssey GTX! I believe its GTX-R
