Nice work Curtis. It's amazing what you find out there.
If I was 40 years younger, I would love to be this guys apprentice.
wow that filter must be their dustpan or rug they sweep all the floors under LOL.
kept expecting the geckos to stand up and sell you some car insurance
A return in the floor,nice!😮
The floor around it looks patched. Maybe it had a floor furnace before?
That's a contradiction, Curtis, because a gecko is a type of lizard.
Good, relible, and honest technicians are few, far, and in between in any field
Great job Curtis that old unit seen better days if they can afford it better to replace thanks for the video
You bet
That thing stopped being a filter about 5 years ago, it's just a plug at this point.
That's the filthiest filter I've ever seen in my 84 years on earth. I said it before you did, Curtis.
Guarantee most of the crud in that filter - at _least_ 90% - was there before she moved in. Egads...
The sideways thermostat had me CRACKING UP! 🤣
7:55 - Silicone?! 🤦♂
That filter should be considered a work of art, put it in an auction. Silicone where the burners throw flames is real smart. An Einstein for sure. JB weld or liquid steel would have been a better hack, but still dangerous as hell. There is only one way to fix a heater and it is called the right way. I know they will need heat this winter, but needed it recently? Has it gotten cold enough there already? Well thanks for sharing this video, I don't understand how people can live like that. No matter the income, race or whatever, things can be cleaned up. I would be totally embarrassed, especially having service man or anyone coming over. I'll shut up now, thanks Curtis.
Not really. Truth of the real world is that those 'hacks' often last longer than the actual 'correct fixes' and are not as dangerous as various people make them out to be.
If they were, numerous homes would 'go up in smoke' due to these hacks being used every year and that does not happen.
The hacks often last until ANOTHER problem causes a fire that burns the home down or causes damage to the home.
Saw that with my relative in W. Va. in the 90's where he had fixed cracked burners in his furnace by welding scrap steel onto them in the late 80's. When he had a fire in the home, the insurance company tried to say "It was due to your CLUDGE!" and did not want to pay.
He hired an expert who corrected the insurance company, pointing out that his cludge had not failed, it was three other parts in the furnace totally unrelated to the burners.
The judge made the insurance company pay up.
No favours for people like that ! Condemn and replace the whole unit !
The gift that just keeps on giving
I think I saw a circus peanut lodged in that filter. 😵💫
I must be the only person that actually DATES the furnace filter when I put the new one in and check it once a month religiously lol
My furnace has a "You can take it out, rinse it off with water, dry it in the dryer and put it back in!" filter and I check it every 2 months (recommendation by the furnace maker).
I usually add a piece of painters tape by the filter panel and write the date on it
I always date mine
Nope I do, the reason why most don’t put their names or dates on shit is because of liability and in this trade that liability is used as a weapon sometimes to fear monger
You're a better technician than me my brother. If they have no gas I give no service.
Curtis, I thought I had seen it all after being in the business for over 40 years, but silicone on the heat exchanger is a new one even to me. That may be the reason the meter is locked out. After seeing that filter, I wouldn't be surprised if that evaporator coil isn't plugged.
I meant, wouldn't be surprised if it is plugged .
That is also the worst filter that I have ever seen 🤣🤣
Someone sweeping the floor into the vent
Just criminal smh…. Way to save the day Curtis and sounds like they need a new gaspak
Heat man we are still getting about a hundred in Arizona. Phoenix and Vegas setting record highs
That’s like fixing a seatbelt with yarn .
What’s that?
That’s your filter..
Well s$)&!
Lol😂
Pasa el tiempo y siempre encuentras un filtro peor que el anterior. Hasta ahora este tiene nuevo récord. Lol
WOW!
Hey the program that you get approval for work, is it called “appfollo”. I do work for a customer and do the same thing. I look at the job and submit an estimate and get approval on the spot
Oh Curtis if you’d seen the things I’ve seen in my 46+ years in this business you not be surprised by that filter or that silicone on that unit. I’ve seen guys that put screws in holes in heat exchangers to try and seal them, wrap cracks with metal and gear clamps. Use hydrolic cement boilers to stop leaks. Never be surprised by what some hack will do. You only need be proud of your own work.👍👍🇨🇦
switch tool bags again? Can you do a video about what/why you switched, what you find useful vs what you didn't like about them? I enjoy watching your videos and I look forward to each one. Thanks for posting them.
It's really baffling how anyone can have that little pride in her living space. We have clutter (my desk is a mess), but nothing that would make a visitor think he better take a shower.
As to the unit, likely another case of a landlord being dangerously cheap.
That was the best I can't stop giggling that filter was so dirty it's unbelievable hahaha
I see you switched bags again. Which bag is this one? You should do videos when you switch bags to show us the different options they have. Only if you want to and have time of course.
You should have said a prayer of over that filter.😂
Curtis, the part number for the burner floor is AE-58594-01. This a Rheem part number, but think that you could cross reference that with a Ruud part number. I've condemned quite a few heat exchangers with that exact problem on Rheem gas packs.
New bag
WoW Curtis, that sure was a clogged return filter, Yes, i Think it need to be changed over for a new one.. Well done 👍 Au
Some people might think I’m terrible, but I won’t even change the heat exchanger. I will install a new furnace but if they want a new heat exchanger. They’ll have to get somebody else I don’t do those that’s just my policy I know there’s people out there that do them, but they’re just more than I like to fool with.and by the time you get done, I think you’re better off just to have a new furnace anyway just my opinion
They’re really easy to do. It’s just the cost that can make it unreasonable
Cant wait to see replacement vidioe !!
After seeing the filter you should have just high tailed it!
No, don't run. The lady needs help and hvac guy did right. Customers aren't a/c techs so they pay you ( the guy who said run) to make repairs.
That's your filter.....well ssshhhheeeeiiiitt!😂🤣🤣🤣
no heat call.?. wth .. praying we get some relief soon!
Omg that filter
Well at least they can roll up in that extra warm filter to stay warm while the heater is being fixed...
Someone put that thing together with silicon and bailing wire. Crazy. Definitely needed to be condemned.
several years ago I went behind a contractor that installed a ~20 ton split heat pump at a school and within one year they replaced a couple of warranty compressors... Eventually, I got a call to diagnose the unit. The first thing I recognize is the system was grossly overcharged, I believe I recovered 17 pounds of 410, when I asked to see the returns I went into each classroom , which had a floor returns, it appeared that the children have been stuffing everything that would fit down into the return for years… Recovered the refrigerant and cleaned out all the floor returns... system op’s normal..
The best part about this project is that the building Director would not believe a single word I said about my diagnosis. Apparently he was great friends with the owner of the contractor that installed the equipment prior to my arrival and he refused to beleive that they could make such an error …this Eventually turned out to be a great contract I think overall there were 30 some odd HVAC pieces of equipment there, which I maintained for several years until I sold my business in 2014..
But they drive a Mercedes 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
traveling in style....
Yeah, right?
@@chuckq54 priorities!
hate floor vents like that filters get bad faster an they should have code to have them moved
I would never DIY a gas line HVAC system. Non Gas systems I would if I knew what needs to be done.
if it is a good company it should have a life time warranty on the heat exchanger some gave a 20 year also
scrap yard for that unit!
How Dangerous 😢😢😢
Curtis; maybe you should frame that Jewel.
i just don't get the idea of having a filter in the floor
yeah i use service titian they are alot alike ive used both great software
Might have gold in the filter
Nothing like some baked silicone to hold your heat exchanger together. And the filter, well, I just don't understand how people can live like that. I did notice you got a new bag.
Did you ask the gecko for an insurance quote?
I noticed you have switched back to the backpack Veto bag.
Smaller one
Curtis, What is that black box with orange cables coming out of it that’s behind and above you in your van ?
Inverter
@@HVACGUY Ahh, thanks.
I cannot understand why people let their filter get like than. It seems like almost every service call you film the filters are always dirty
floor returns along with any type of hard flooring is a recipe for a constantly plugged filter
nobody does maintenance on anything they need a reminder sheet to tell them what they need to do like change smoke alarm batteries, air filters, and thermostat batteries I wonder if they have an ap for that reminding you to do maintenance.
The extent of most people's knowledge pretty much boils down to "turn the thermostat up, it gets warmer; turn the thermostat down, it gets cooler."
I can't understand why a filter would be located in the floor. Talk about horrible design. That lady did not know what a filter was, or where it was, but you think she would have seen all the crap on it. I agree with Curtis, that is the worst filter I have ever seen. That unit has been down for a very long time.
Curtis, how come every house you go into doesn't have any light? Looks like you need a bag of light bulbs to hand out to your customers.
Most are so nasty the people probably don't want to see too well 😂
HEY CURTIS I FOUND YOU THAT PART ON LINE YOU SAID YOU CANNOT GET ANY MORE SEND ME THE SERIAL SO I CAN LOOK IT UP AGAIN IF YOU WANT ME TO OR YOU CAN USE IT AS A TEMPLATE TO MAKE A BUNCH SELL IT TO OTHER TECHS
Gecko's are lizards.
Curtis, which veto pac model is that?
Silicone on the heat exchanger at the burner tubes would’ve been the max for me is obviously a problem and exchanger is a big problem
your opinion on american homeshield?
Scam
Looks like another job that Mikey pikes did lol
New tool BAG?
How on the world do ya need heat right now I'm in Cincinnati Ohio and haven't turned heat on yet
Curtis has said in the past it can go from 90 in the afternoon with AC and down in the 40's - 50's at night and need heat. Those homes have very little insulation compared to us farther north.
Hit 49 last night here
@@alanjordan7713 It's just the difference in insulation techniques and vapour barriers. Where you live Attic insulation is R20 or R30, where I live code is now R60. I'm only 760 miles farther North. It's that old saying; Location, Location, Location.
Is October time for horour story's nothing a new unit and of course some gas wouldn't fix
Trying to run heat already?
Cole Mall
You dont find furnaces outside around here.
Walk away, it's a mess and I'm sure they don't have the needed funds to repair it
Why is it a dangerous hack?
Puts customer in danger of carbon monoxide poisoning
Because CO (carbon monoxide) from the burner can mix with the air being pumped into the house.
The owner probably didn't want to spend money to fix it right. The guy should have used furnace cement for a temp fix for the little holes.
No temp fix. Needs new heat exchanger, nothing else is acceptable.
@@HVACGUY oh I know. Was just saying the guy before was probably told to do it. Yes should replace the parts for sure.
Why do you work on all this junk? Condemn it, and move on. NEW SYSTEM TIME.
why did you bother wasting your time you knew you were going to condemn the unit as soon as you looked at it
