You did an excellent job of demonstrating this technique. I'm a "Newbie" to using the Cricut. Your demonstration was organized & your took your time to explain each step. In some TH-cam videos people start losing their train of thought or start looking for items, which you did not do... As a retired Art teacher there is a lot of work to being organized for a demonstration. You never went off task which helps someone like me not be overwhelmed. I began teaching my own children with the Apple IIE Computers, then turned it over to my son who became a Graphics Designer....
This is one of the best tutorials I have ever watched. Understood everything you explained and you did so without a lot of jibber jabber. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much for going the entirety of your project. I hate having to search through multiple different videos when I'm trying to do one project. I'm new to the Cricut world and you have taught me so much. Thank you!!
You are an excellent teacher. I have a Cricut and do so so with it. I have been wanting to purchase a scan n cut but afraid to have to learn another machine. After watching your tutorials I am one step closer to making my purchase. Thank you and I am absolutely a fan of yours!
I have a Cricut and have been intimidated by taking it out of the box. I was not sure if I would be able to use design space. You have made this entire process look easy. I know this is not a beginners project however I was able to follow. I have subscribed to your channel. Thank you for sharing.
I am new to all of this and a bit overwhelmed! But I’ve joined a group on FB and found your TH-cam channel- I have to say you are wonderful at your tutorials! Thanks for staying on track and clear instructions! I give you a zillion thumbs up!!
YOU, my friend, are a born teacher. I have watched sooo many videos to try to figure this out and they have all gone too fast and all “assumed” that you knew how to do more than most people really know how to do. I MOST DEFINITELY have subscribed to your channel. Thank you for your time. I wish you were my next door neighbor 😀
elizabeth mims you are too sweet. I try to go step by step as I would if I was doing it myself. I’m glad it was helpful to you. Come join our Facebook group and show off your finished product!
I'm so glad I've just found you! Your instructions are so clear and concise and your voice is beautiful. I totally appreciate you taking the time to explain everything so well. What a great technique. Off to the tile store now! Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
This turned out awesome and the tutorial was great. Not in a hurry to get done and showed a lot of the work. Most "tutorials" skip alot but you don't. Got yourself a subscriber 😍
AWESOME video Wendy !! You made doing a knockout project easy to do ! You instructions were very clear and precise and I was able to follow along without any issues ! Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge and talent, it is greatly appreciated !!
Very nice project. Was wondering if it would have been easier to add your transfer tape if you had used another piece of tape to tape the end of your project to your work space to keep it from moving as you pulled the backing off of your transfer tape to apply it.
Great video! I tried doing a knockout with my Maker, got so frustrated, went to SCAL 5 Pro, did it and uploaded, this will be so much easier and faster now that I’ve seen it done! Very good tutorial!
Thank you so much I have recently purchased a cricut after using a Silhouette for a year and wow you have made this so easy for me to understand Thank you so much xx
Another tip I learned while doing the @ 4:02 mark instead of spacing just leave them together when typing it it and it all stays together perfect to me tho.
Yes, that was not an option at the time this video was made. Have you watched the updated video? There's a link in the description. Thanks for watching!
Very cool! Thought I might be able to actually do this until I read the update - now I'm frozen in fear. Too much techie stuff for me, but that's the Design Space problem not Wendy's tutorial. Thank you for this tutorial! Would love to see how to do it with the I Love Glitter font in a different color than the large word. Will search your other videos, maybe an updated one is there. Glad I found you!!
Thank you so very much for the tutorial! I don't know how you could improve on it. Everything was explained so well and you talked slow!! Thank you again!
Great video. I just subscribed and will be checking in regularly. You did a wonderful job with this demonstration and I will probably watch one more time and then take this same type of idea on. Great instructions. Thank you so much. I look forward to checking out your other videos.
Very new to this. When I got to the print section..... it wouldn’t allow me to right click &save now I’m at a stand still :-((. Help pls. Any suggestions?
If you don’t want to move your letter that is filling in when you weld (bc sometimes it doesn’t look right after you move it) you can click on the letter and *move it to the back* and it won’t fill in anymore! Hope this helps!!
I was well presented and so much was taught in this video, who knew that you could even do that. Wow, that may take some practice to get through it as well as you have done.
I am trying to do this text style to put the vinyl onto a wine glass, but the font keeps shredding when it is in the process of cutting...is it because the font (i love glitter) is too thin to cut at that small size??
good video, but couldn't help but notice that the dot for the j was missing. Will have to check out the dollar store transfer tape because the Cricut one I bought is too strong and giving me trouble
Emily Wedin glad you liked it! I did put the dot back on afterward. Lol! Cricut transfer tape is very tacky. Cricut has regular and a strong grip. Strong grip is only for glitter vinyl and you definitely need it for that. The regular still tends to be a bit sticky for other materials. You can stick it to your shirt first to get rid of some of the stickiness if you want to use the rest of it up, but contact paper works well for most projects and is very inexpensive. I will be doing a video soon testing out a few different brands of transfer tape.
Awesome video. I do one thing a little differently ... when I line up the transfer tape after I peeled back a little edge, I line up the opposite edge first (with no sticky exposed) & then just flatten it over the other end ( with the sticky) which will automatically line up. That sounded confusing when I read it back & it’s just a small thing anyway! So .... anyway, thanks for the great video
Excellent tutorial. I didn't know you could adjust your design vertically on the mat. I have an Explore Air instead of a Maker, so I hope this will work for me as well. Thank you!
I am trying to save my knockout. When I click send to printer I select bleed. I cannot save the picture like you did, right clicking does nothing. I clicked on System Dialog but when that screen comes up I still can't save it. HELP!! I can't find how to save it as a png.
Have you noticed that Design Space doesn't give the bleed option as thick anymore :( I have been doing these tiles for awhile for family and friends and went to make one today. Anyone have a work-around? I'm turning "bleed" on but it only slightly thickens the font, not like the blurry blob that it used to show!!
I am new to this and this is a wonderful video for a beginner like me! thank you for that! I followed and was doing great right up to the part where I saved the knockout. when i upload it to crop i have a pink or white background instead of the checkered boxes. what am i doing wrong? i have saved several and uploaded them and when i get to this point i have even gone ahead and cropped and that results in the gray box someone else has mentioned. help!
great tutorial, but it isn't working for me. when I weld the smaller layers of letters, the weld result says it is not supported by E xplore: Image too large. reduce to 11.5 x 23.5 or less and the image is actually smaller than that. Help!!!
M Sumpter are you using the Design Space in your Explore browser? You should be using the app now. And if you have it longer than 23.5 you will have to make it shorter. That’s the limit on length you can have something to fit a 12x24 mat.
Hello! I'm getting to the Print Setup step to save and copy the "I Love Glitter" item as a PNG. NOTHING I click or right click allows me to save it. What do I need to do differently...or what am I missing? Thank you!
Is your update related to not being able to SAVE the knockout text from the Send to Printer step? This was driving me insane! I kept right clicking and nothing! If this is the case THANK YOU!!!!
Great video, well presented, I think I now understand how to do the Knockout names - just one thing, another time when working with white, we would be able to see things better if your background/tabletop was not white as well
You now have to continue to your printer, under where it has the bleed option make sure to click "show printer dialogue" when your printer dialogue comes up, it can hide behind your browser, choose save as PDF. What I do then is open the PDF in a viewer, on a MAC it is Preview, enlarge it and take a screen shot, then upload to DS and clean it up, save as a cut file. This is working for now, it's a pain in the butt. Hopefully Cricut will bring back the old option or maybe create a shadow option soon. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
I have a PC, what I had to do was save it as a "pdf" and then open the pdf file. I took a "screen shot ("print screen")" and then I opened "paint" and "ctrl+v" and saved it as a "png". Also, people were saying open it up in internet explorer, not chrome/firefox. Then you'll see the "save image" when you right click
Is there an updated way because of the update some of the things your doing doesn’t apply to this version. I’m having problems with the bleed in the print set up as well as saving the image. Can you do an updated one please
Shatina Brown there is not. Things have changed in DS since this video was made. Turn the bleed on and read the update in the description for how to save it. From what I can tell, people are still able to make it work that way.
I am having trouble on my explore air 2 finding the print/cut feature to save the image and I can't proceed without that printed image to upload into the design. Thank you for any help you can provide! :)
When I made my layer to slice out, it is too thin and doesnt allow enough room to have the real words sit properly in the middle. How did you make your yellow layer so thick? I followed exactly, making sure bleed is on, etc. I'm using all the same fonts as you as well. Thank you for your help.
Lauren Ruffing Unfortunately Cricut has changed things up a bit with design space and now the bleed is not as thick as it used to be. Take the first one you saved and upload it again , Take it to the print option with the bleed on and save it again. You might need to do this a couple more times to get the thickness you want.
I’m new to the Cricut but not new to computers. You do a great job clearly explaining every step and I greatly appreciate it! I have gone back and tried from the very beginning multiple times but I keep getting stuck after I go to “print” my script. I select it and my only option when right clicking is “save picture” not “save image” as you seem to have on your Mac. When I do that and continue through the process all looks good until I get to the part where I’m supposed to save it as a cut image. The cut image option is a grey rectangle, the save as print then cut shows the script like you have in the cut image option. From that point on I can’t get it to work correctly because I only have a big ugly rectangle to work with. I see others have had the same problem. Is there any solution?
Catherine Collier I think you may not have cleaned up the white area around your text. When you upload the image into design space you then need to use the clean up tool to click around the the white empty space so you see the gray and white grid around the text.
Totally new to cricut. Love tutorial but you lost me at changing to a print and not a cut. After the weld I do not have the scissors that you have and under line type I do not have print as an option. I may have just found it under fill... But now it is telling me that the image it too large and I must resize to 6.75x9.25. I'm on a cricut maker. Also I notice your mat is larger than mine.
This video was made a while ago and DS has changed. Go up to the top where it says "fill" and that's where you can change it to cut. Also, please read the update in the description about how to go about saving the file.
sheila smith yes, it’s done in design space and then you can cut it on any of the Cricut machines. With the joy you will just be limited to the height of the Joy materials.
As random as this might sound, I actually have one of those tiles though mine is gray (like weathered wood I guess) and now I know what to do with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy! LOL
I loved your video. I understood every single part. You explained all the details. I have also seen the new video update. Thanks for doing this!! By the way, how much would you charge for a board like that?
Help please? I’m a newbie and followed instructions but when I got to the add bleeder step nothing happened and it didn’t give me an option to copy too.
Great video, very clear instructions, thank you. I’m new to Cricut and to be honest, I’m struggling with it 🙁 .... I’ve been watching a lot of ‘knockout’ videos as I really want to make one. I’ve managed to get the project completed on DS but I’m struggling with the cutting settings and the weeding. Sometimes cutting on ‘vinyl’ setting doesn’t cut properly so I’ve tried ‘washi’ setting. Because it hasn’t cut particularly well, I’m finding the weeding of the ‘ILG’ font very difficult. I think it may be better with a large project. Can you offer any other advice re any alternative fonts which are not quite so delicate ... I’m determined to get this right but I’m wasting so much time and vinyl .... thank you
Hello. I'm working with windows 10. I'm new to this soo I'm following along with you. When I click to turn on bleed my image looks EXACTLY the same as if its turn off. It's not looking like yours. Plus nothing happens when I right click to save. I don't know what I'm doing wrong so I quit it for awhile
LaMara Allen things have changed in DS since this video was made. Turn bleed on anyway and then read the update in the description to see how to save it.
Great video. I definitely want to see more by you...but...I must have a different version. My options are different. I do not have Access. Does that make a difference? I do not have that print option.
Nicolle Ackel please read the update in the description and some of the comments. DS has changed since this video was made but you should be able to find the right options.
Hi ! Great tutorial - I got up to the part where I need to SLICE, and I cannot get slice to become an option -it is grayed out. Any ideas what I could have done wrong?
Christine Figler there are a couple things that could be happening. You need to make sure you welded the letters of the big name together and that you only have the welded name and the cutout names selected. You can only slice when you have two elements selected. Hope that helps.
Just purchased a Cricut Air 2 and this is only to be my first project. Thanks for an awesome tutorial.
I enjoyed this video very much. It is concise and to the point, which I like. You were well prepared for your video, very professional.
Really nice tutorial. Not a lot of excessive unrelated talk. To the point and easy to understand. Thank you!
carol kennedy thank you for this! I do try to get all the information in while trying to keep it fun but concise!
Very thorough and clear directions, thank you

Best directions for creating a knockout. Thanks for sharing them.
Very nice project. Was wondering if it would have been easier to add your transfer tape if you had used another piece of tape to tape the end of your project to your work space to keep it from moving as you pulled the backing off of your transfer tape to apply it.

Looking forward to watching others when I have a life away from teaching and crafting lol x
Another tip I learned while doing the @ 4:02 mark instead of spacing just leave them together when typing it it and it all stays together perfect to me tho.

I DID IT! It worked out with your instructions thank you soooooo much.
Thank you so very much for the tutorial! I don't know how you could improve on it. Everything was explained so well and you talked slow!! Thank you again!
This video was awesome! I am a newbie and learned so many tricks in this video outside of creating a knockout design. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Excellent video! Thank you so much!!! Very helpful 😊

Thank you for the video! Definitely the best explained video on the knockout I’ve seen! Great job!

AWESOME TIP on applying the transfer paper to our vinyl! WOW!
I now will have a pen sheet also.Thankyou for doing all the work!!!!
You are awesome in your tutorial. Greatly appreciate all your work, AND your machine is a lot quieter than mine, mine is so loud when it's working.
Thank you great and easy to follow tutorial🤗
Marling Dallatorre I also just loaded an updated version since design space has changed th-cam.com/video/gRnfXnxZmX4/w-d-xo.html

I am having trouble on my explore air 2 finding the print/cut feature to save the image and I can't proceed without that printed image to upload into the design. Thank you for any help you can provide! :)
Kristin Sanders please read down in the comments. You will find it in the upper toolbar where it says fill.
@@fabcraftsandmore Thank you, I was having the same issue

Lauren Ruffing Unfortunately Cricut has changed things up a bit with design space and now the bleed is not as thick as it used to be. Take the first one you saved and upload it again , Take it to the print option with the bleed on and save it again. You might need to do this a couple more times to get the thickness you want.
I need help! I have done everything up until the part where the scissor ✂️.... I don't have that on the side. What am I doing wrong

Great video. I was able to follow as you talked. Great pace.
Carmen Sepulveda I try to keep to the subject at hand. Thanks for watching! 😊
So amazing. Thank you for sharing your video. I'm so excited to try this out. You did a great job.
How did you get the heart between the names
I’m just curious if you can do this technique on the Cricut Joy?
sheila smith yes, it’s done in design space and then you can cut it on any of the Cricut machines. With the joy you will just be limited to the height of the Joy materials.
Fab Crafts and More thank you!! 😊
As random as this might sound, I actually have one of those tiles though mine is gray (like weathered wood I guess) and now I know what to do with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy! LOL
Audrey Schemmer great! Come join the Facebook group and show off your finished project. The link is in the description.
for some reason the link didn't work, but I found you !
@@audreyschemmer1945 Yay, I also changed the link and it should work now. Thank you for letting me know. :)
Thanks! Great video. Straightforward with all the information I needed.
1101atlgirl Great! Glad it was helpful.
Excellent video, thank you so much and I can't wait to go play with what I learned from you.
I don't have the option to select print i have the explore Air 2 I could only select cut, draw, score or foil on the line type section
Please watch the updated video linked in the description!
@@fabcraftsandmore okay thank you so much for the reply and update
Where can I purchase an SVG of the Cutie shown in this tutorial???
VVV it is a file in design space. I think you can find it by doing a search for cutie.
I loved your video. I understood every single part. You explained all the details. I have also seen the new video update. Thanks for doing this!!
By the way, how much would you charge for a board like that?
Great video. The whoosh lines on the ends , how do you do that?
Love how well explained this tutorial is... THANK YOU!!
Anny Alarcon You’re welcome! Thanks for watching.
Help please? I’m a newbie and followed instructions but when I got to the add bleeder step nothing happened and it didn’t give me an option to copy too.
Sera Robertson please read the description and go to the updated video. Thanks for watching.
I’m determined to get this right but I’m wasting so much time and vinyl .... thank you
Hi Wendy, will you show the end result?
Great explanation. I avoid cursive fonts but what keyboard shortcuts do you use as this would help me tremendously
I should add to that, its the first step in using the Cricut, the part where you have to save it on your computer...cant see where I go to save it.
Hi love you project. Was that do with an apple computer or PC
Beautiful! I have to make!! Where did you get the tile from? I don’t see it listed
Mis-sippians you can get them at hardware stores that carry tile.
I'm definitely trying this! Thank you for sharing
