I am retired and looking for just a few rural acres in the foothills. I want to raise my dogs, chickens, and garden. I would still like to have some amenities (electricity). I've been looking at a map of the smaller towns around Johnson City.....2-5 acres would be nice. What towns do you recommend? How much should I expect to pay for unimproved real-estate in that type of location?

Cynthia, You have many towns to choose from here in NE TN. You could begin by looking at Erwin, Elizabethton, Jonesborough, Telford, Afton, Chuckey, Limestone or Greeneville. On average 20k to 30k per acre depending on the location and etc.

#REO_Outdoors: how about further out? Barn, electricity, sewer- 2-5 acres no neighbors. How about Old homesteads, run down abandoned? Someplace I can park my camper and work on property

If I wanted to look for property in Eastern Tennessee that had minimal or no building codes where would I want to look? I'm just starting my research and I won't be ready for at least a year but I would be looking for around 40 acres to build on that looks a lot like this property. BTW congrats on the sale of this one.

You could probably look at any rural areas in NE TN that are not within the city. Be sure that the land you are interested in does not have deed restrictions on it. For a parcel of land around 40 acres I would suggest Greeneville, Rogersville, Afton, Chuckey, Telford, Limestone, Jonesborough, Elizabethton or Erwin. Best of luck!

What can you tell about Bybee TN thank you God bless

Bybee is about an hour or more Southwest of Johnson City. It’s actually out of the area I work in. I have shown land and homes near Bybee in Newport. Bybee has a population of around 20k or less. It’s a fairly rural area. Are you possibly considering a move to that area?
