  • This session from The Myositis Association's 2019 Annual Patient Conference in Minneapolis is led by a neurologist from the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Diagnosing myositis diseases is often a challenge. Learn the process doctors go through when someone comes to them with muscle weakness and other symptoms, from examination to diagnostic testing and distinguishing myositis from other diseases.

Wow, this may have been the greatest presentation lecture that Ive watched on TH-cam. Dr. Marianne de Visser, you should be commended for conducting such a great lecture with such patience with your QandA. I am very interested in this subject as I am just in the beginning stages for a diagnoses. Have High titres for SS-A and Anti DSDNa but muscle weakness and muscle loss and fatigue are the most prominent features however my clinicians, at this point, do not seem to be going down the path of the fundamentals as per what is the basis for your lecture. I am hoping at some pt I will get a biopsi or muscle MRi at the least as I am currently on Plaquenil but have only just begun this treatment with no significant improvement however side effects have occured already.
Thank you once again Dr Marianne de Visser, MD. Would be so cool to have a coffee with you!

I also have that red upper chest rash. I see it after every hot shower, it does not itch and is not raised. I notice it from sunlight as well on upper chest and neck.

Do they tend to disregard to check you for myositis because of your young age? even if you show symptoms and your C3 is positive.

I am 41 yr old woman who has had many strange symptoms including extreme muscle weakness, mainly in my thighs and shoulders also my hands. I feel like I am losing my fine motor skills in my hands (particularly my thumbs). I have had extreme weight loss (5o lbs in 5 months eating well), kidney hemorrhage, numbness, light sensitivity, anemia, low blood pressure, eye irritation and puffiness, difficulty swallowing at times, I can go on forever. My ANA is positive with cytoplasmic pattern, and I just received a Myositis panel awaiting results. My Rhem doesn't think Myositis is likely bc I have normal EMG and CK levels. I feel like its this or Lupus. Any insight from anyone? He is very stern about my CK levels being normal but now I wonder. I am so desperate for answers I feel like I am slowly dying.
