I guess it's OK for low frequencies but the way he is overlapping turns which are electrically "far away" from each other (in terms of the voltage drop) will unnecessarily increase the parasitic capacitance. I thought that multilayer coils were usually basket-weave wound or bank wound. Essentially you build-up all of the layers at once instead of completing one and then making the next one on top of it.

There is no idea in winding in an angle, other than a longer winding, and more losses in the coil.
