When I see this drawing I feel I can reach out and touch that leathery elephant. Well done and thanks for the tips on supplies.

Excellent video, I need to do some more graphite work, I do really enjoy it. Good for practicing values too :)

      Thankyou 😊
It is great for practicing values! And it's a nice, easy change from working in colour every now and then!

@@KirstyRebeccaFineArt I think one of the things I find the hardest is deciding what medium to do a piece in. If I love a photo, I think "that would look great in colour pencil" but then I think "but if I used gouache I could do this" and so on. I suppose that gets easier with time.

Haha I'm sort of the other way around... (maybe because I do tutorials, I want the spread to be more even across mediums) so I usually pick a medium, then choose a reference... but the problem I have is that I scroll through references for pastel... then I come across a reference that would be great for graphite and get side-tracked! haha

@@KirstyRebeccaFineArt Scrolling through references is like a bottomless pit :P

Graphite powder is an invaluable art supply to have but it also very dangerous to breath in. It should be used sparingly and never blow or sweep the excess off of the paper of fan the brush on the side of the container to clean it. Extra caution has to be taken to avoid it becoming airborne.
I personally use shorter bristle brushes and makeup sponges to apply when using it.

      Yes you're right!
As with all supplies that cause dust (graphite/charcoal powder, pastels etc) extra care should be taken 😊
I have also started using Sofft tools and different brushes to apply the powder which helps to control the amount of dust as well!

I always forget about graphite powder, haven't tried it yet since I know for a fact I would end up making a big mess lol

      Haha me too!
That's why I keep it inside a container... inside another container! 😂
I did that over a sink (instead of my artwork... which I've done before haha) and now it's so much less messy!
