Hiking and Camping next to the world's tallest waterfall | Tugela Falls | Drakensberg

  • This is a bucket list hike in South Africa, the video will never do this hike justice and you would have to experience this yourself. The return hike is about 12km and I would call it moderate too hard, but it comes with a risk factor when climbing the chain ladders. There is an entrance fee at the park and you have to pay for the hike on a per day basis.
    The route to the hike is the worst road you will ever see, so you definitely need a 4x4, it's 7km long and takes about 45 minutes. The waterfall was remeasured in November 2021 and is officially the highest waterfall in the world.

    brother this makes me so happy to see someone recorded such an amazing journey up there i did it when i was 12 with my Voortrekkers group , i live in New Zealand now for a long time and this brought back so many memories, by any chance was there a old military hut up there near the water fall still ?

    Thank you so much for your video! Brings back great memories. I have camped there a couple of times and unfortunately woke up one morning with tent cut in one corner and my boots were gone and one of the other campers hiking bags missing too, with car keys and mobile phones in the bags!

      Oh no, that sounds like a scary experience. I have to admit that when we went up we were one massive group so I’m guessing that’s why it felt safe. Truly a beautiful place.

      @@garnettsnyman it is truly beautiful and that didn't put us off! We also hiked the mountains near little Switzerland, we were watching White-backed vultures from the top of the peaks. The Vultures nest on the walls/face of mountains and just glid out!
      That was awesome to watch

    Awesome video... you captured everything. I love that place, keep on going back every time. Would have liked to see more of the gully... went down there several times but never get an actual idea what it looks like from the drome footage it is visible. Kudos my friend you are an excellent content creator... what program do you use for your video edits? Goodness and favor on your journey!

    I'm going to the area with someone who gets veritigo so chain ladders wouldn't be easy for her would you suggest the Gulley then?

      The Gulley is the only other route I know up except for the chain ladder, so it will have to do, it’s ridiculously tough, because of how steep it is 😁 but I’ve seen many people go up there. I think the less you have to carry the easier it would be

    How do you go about arranging this hike for a group of friends? Love your content always!

      The best would be is to stay by witsieshoek lodge and then arrange with them to shuttle your team up to the mountain and start hiking from there. I know a guide that takes people up to the mountain very often if you are interested in using a guide service 😁. At the end of the day you just need some gear which you can also hire, like tent and hiking bag. Thanks for the great comment and support ☺️.

      Thanks Adrian, I think it is a popular discussion seeing that there were explorers that re-measured it and saw it was actually higher than Angel falls, coming in at 983m. Although it is super difficult to estimate height seeing the last drop of Tugela is really difficult to get to.     It' s the second one, Angel's Fall is the highest one.

      It’s unofficially the tallest waterfall but according to the Czech research team it is the tallest, where Angel falls still hold the record for tallest single drop for a waterfall. So it’s 50-50 😂

      Tugela is the tallest waterfall in the world.
      Angel is the tallest UNINTERRUPTED waterfall in the world.
      You need to catch up with your information.
      Very recently, this has been verified on world waterfall database!!

      It still has the single highest drop in the world but new research have shown Tugela to be taller, hence the plaque @3:54

    How did you manage to get a permit to fly a drone in a World Heritage Site, through Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife?

      Hi, I did check and it seems that for the chain ladders there were no requirements, I know that SANParks are the only ones currently requiring a permit or authorization but it's always helpful to ask the park beforehand and fly within the laws :)
