    My aim for this one was to try create a productivity video that had some practical next steps and some mindset stuff, but didn't leave you feeling like shit for not being productive enough 😘
    Anyway, thanks for watching and lmk what topic you wanna see next!
    P.s. there's a scammer in these comments pretending to be me. Report them I guess?

      Please make a video about decision making. I always ask others about which one is better to do. Then I'll end up blaming them when things go wrong. Thank you struthless!❤

    I love that the advice you present always has the caveat of "hey, remember you're still human, don't go overboard if you can't handle it." which is so important, and needs to be said more often!! What stood out to me the most was when you said, "the rigidity of this hack just gets in the way of life" and that's exactly what stops me, and I'm sure many people, from actually committing to long-term habits. Well said, all around!!

      I did a diet plan that had a component of “if you break the diet, be kind to yourself, don’t worry at all, just hop back on tomorrow or even the next day and keep going”. That pressure release valve helped me lose 30lbs.

    notes for me
    1) Do task or do nothing within the allotted time
    2) Use tetris to remove extra unnecessary thoughts. Might kinda be like meditating. Can be used for a break
    3) Use music cues which play only for when you're working. Maybe try listening to "deep minimal techno"
    4) Use a physical system to track your progress so accomplishments feel more satisfying
    5) At the end of each day make a list of what you did. List what went will and not so well and why they happened. Minimize things which caused bad things, maximize things which caused good things

    • @albertcousin9831
      @albertcousin9831 ปีที่แล้ว

      sorry but playing tetris has nothing to do with meditating

    As someone with ADHD that has issues sticking to anything for the long term: thank you for wording them in a way that made them *your* personal hacks. What I mean is that you didn't make it seem like it works for everyone else and I never felt shame for having tried some of these but them not working out.
    Example: The coin thing wouldn't work for me because I would play with them and fidget. I have fidget toys though that help me stay focused (usually). It allowed me to see what I do for that kind of event and overlay it on mine. My boss will break down a task that is repetitive as individual items on our task system which allows me to "empty the cup" in a way that works for us.

      Good comment! I too have ADHD and only found out 15 months ago (and had no idea before that, didn't even have ADHD on my radar) so am only learning bit by bit what works and what doesn't. I already suspect that most of the hacks in this video won't work for me, eg I run a mile when someone breaks down a big project into smaller steps to tick off. Ironically unlike you I think the coin one is prob the one that is most likely to work for me! So am going to try it today :) Will look out on this thread in case you update what else worked for you, as I'm really interested in hacks from my fellow peeps with neurodivergent brains. :)

    • @majinshinsa
      @majinshinsa 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@rebecca_stone Don't get discouraged if a new method fizzles out for no reason. That's my biggest stumbling block, where something can work for days/weeks/months and then one day it just stops working at all.
      I use a program called Notion and that seems to help me a lot. I can make goofy pages, use it for tracking things (like medication side effects at each dose and when my hypomania hits) and anything else that I can think of. It's also cloud based so I can use it with my work computer, phone and home which makes dr visits a lot better since I can read what I noticed about my meds instead of drawing a blank like I usually do

      I love this so much! I have ADHD too, so what I love even more about what you wrote is you're not only highlighting the differences between what works for people, but you're highlighting that there are still big differences within people who are often clumped together (i.e. in some broad stroke ADHD bucket). Tysm for your comment!! 💕

      @@struthless Been watching your videos for a while and found them super helpful. It is like having a cool friend who encourages me in a supportive way.
      The alpha male grindset videos are abundant but they do little in terms of long term change and motivation.
      Especially the 70 % rule was a game changer for me!
      Recently found out I have ADHD too, so I guess that is why your videos resonate so much with me.

    First time ever I didn't feel like shit after watching a productivity hack video. All the ones I have seen so far just remind me of how unproductive I am and how I seem to never get out of the deep hole I'm in. But not struthless, you give me another new few things to try out, like actual realistic stuff. I really wish I could do the Neil method and book myself into a hotel. I have come to realize I am much more productive if I am not at home, but it's just so expensive to always go somewhere to write. Anyways, nevermind, another great video, and all the best for you, your newborn and the mama. Thanks for your videos! Many of them have really changed my life, especially the half-year-reset is 100% part of my life now!

    Out of all the productivity channels that are out there, yours is the one that always just seems to hit, right in my brain. I really appreciate what you said about remembering that you are a human. I find that this thought has helped me work towards my goals more than any other hack or system out there. It allows me to be reasonable and forgiving with myself. And if I want to do better, it's because I want, not because I feel like I have to.

    Re: productivity audit, I think it's important to remember that correlation does not equal causation. Was I more productive today because I didn't spend 4 hours on TH-cam or did I have more energy that allowed me to be productive and if I had locked away my phone on a less productive day, would that actually have changed anything? It's probably a bit of both. I had to learn that I just have better and worse days and the worse days don't really get much better if I just try to mimick how I behave on better days.

As an adult who has struggled with undiagnosed adhd my whole life, I get hyperfocused on something, dump a bunch of money into a hobby or "passion" just to be done with it a few weeks later and accomplish essentially nothing. Your "genre of music" tip works with other cues as well : smells such as lighting the same candle every day when starting work, or putting on a specific fragrance for work; taste like drinking a different blend of tea for work than in the rest of your life, or having a breakfast that is different than your "days off" breakfast; or any action you can link to work like listening to podcasts, tidying your desk before you start your day, etc. It's amazing how much our brains associate things together if you make a habit out of it for a couple of weeks. Thanks for the hacks !

    You're one of the few people that I will see on the loop, click it (not just to bookmark it for someday), but then /actually watch it/ most if not all of the way through, sometimes more than once too... instead of just bookmarking it for someday or letting it sit in a tab for 6 months. I don't remember offhand which vid of yours exactly I ran into first, and I think it was recced from someone but it could have been on the loop from the vid that was recced... but now if I see something anywhere and I recognise your face or name on it, I'm 80% likely to actually sit down with it. I don't do that with any other creater. But so many of the things that I HAVE watched from you, have just changed my life. Plus been really calming and relatable and smart. You make it very real, but also achievable and also hopeful. I don't feel like I have to be my dream self to do it. I feel like just my hot messy self can still just do it. It really cuts thru all of the bs excuses in my mind and just gets me honest AND it gets me started. So yeah. In the really weird random chance that you actually do see this, just: thank you. thank you, thank you. You're the best, I wish you all of the best of everything. You've made my efforts better and thought you should know that it helped someone get some of their life more together. I hope you know how much it is appreciated!

    The situational Music and Pavlov Dog made me think of this habit I've created recently.
    I live 45min by train from the city center so every time I go to the office or want to hang out with people during the weekend, I have this 1h30 of dead time.
    At some point I've read Danny Gregory's books about sketching and got inspired so I've challenged myself to do 10 quick portraits of commuters in a week. I got carried away and did 30, continued the next weeks, started to receive nice comments from randomers seeing me drawing which made me even more motivated to continue. And now, after a bit over a month, I've reach this point that sitting in the train WITHOUT my sketchbook feels itchy.

    Super appreciate how you mention your baby affecting your day to day. I have a 13-month-old, and as a now stay-at-home mom who used to be a full-time tattoo artist who owned her own tattoo shop It is hard for me to feel like I'm getting anything productive done in a day. But I also look at my to do list and it is completely different now. Read books, go on a walk, learn colors, sort shapes, those are now on my to do list. I do find it hard to find time to do things that I would like for myself. So if you have any tips on how you find time for you when you have a dependent or other large responsibilities that would be great! It always seems like lots of TH-camrs productivity videos or just people who I admire who make things don't have any dependents or responsibilities and can just say "oh I found a couple hours here to paint after dinner" or "I was able to go to a coffee shop to write for a couple hours" And sometimes it doesn't feel like I have that luxury anymore. 😂
    I'm not really sure what I'm trying to say here other than that I just love that you are splicing in real truth about parenthood and being a creative person at the same time. Thanks so much. You are without a doubt one of my favorite TH-cam channels and I hope you and your family have a beautiful day today!

    3:06 When I was in college several years ago, I would take study breaks and play Super Mario on Nintendo. But my hard and fast rule was I could only play one life. As soon as I failed and died, I went back to the books. And my mind was always cleared and receptive. It was a great distraction for the moment and really helped me be prepared to study and stay alert to the subject at hand.

    Daniel gaming method and the Pavlot dog method are things I found myself trying to utilize without even knowing that they were things widely considered as helpful. Like when I would study for a test I would play a playlist with a specific handful of songs that I had to love and then listen to them when I would go and take the test.

    Im into so much emotion as, I left my home to prove to myself I can do stuff and started living with my girl got into college so I can learn videogame development, that i am payin myself, and I recongice on myself that everyday has been draining and full of will power up to the smallest desitions and today I just felt that I didnt want to do anything, I skipped school, and felt like trash and felt like my life is crumbling down and wathced all day YT and then I just remembered struthless, as every time he talks about struggles, I feel it so close man, I feel it right here, I understand the things he talks about, the drugs, the wanting to be a better person and recognizing in yourself you are doing wrong to yourself, and mental fatigiue, and the job you hate and thats why you do what you do and then I find myself exasperated and and overwhelmed and I just came back here to help me out, grab a pen and paper and do my homework, and I also wanted to share this little something, even, with almost no emotional or mental energy, We still have to move on, and the music hack, It works , so good luck to everybody whos trying and breaking out of their older self

    I love these! Especially the audit and the visible "loading bar"/tokens. I'm gonna try the second one first, because I love seeing the work "disappearing" or seeing how far I've come already. I've been doing that digitally, but making it physical sounds more fun

    Holy cow! I've never heard Neil Gaiman's writing method before but I actually do the same thing when I'm really stuck on a project. I call it the "bore yourself method" where you only do the task at hand or else let yourself be bored. It works surprisingly well and suddenly the laborious task becomes super fun and interesting compared to the... Nothing.

    Thank you Campbell all of these at any given time has given me the same results as you. Just treat yourself as a human is the best advice. Especially when you have kids. I’ll definitely be auditing my good days and paying an editor ahead of time brilliant idea!

  • @tris5602
    @tris5602 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think I need to use productivity auditing to remind myself of all the things I accomplish in a given day. Sometimes I end the day feeling like it's been wasted until my spouse reminds me of all the cleaning, organizing, and socializing that I did before I took a three hour nap. I also tend to have hyper-productive days followed by a zero motivation day(s) because I over do it physically/mentally during the productive day. I ALWAYS assume I'm slacking off or lazy, and that isn't a fair assessment. Maybe auditing will help me be kinder to myself on rest days.

    Tip 8 is good. I do that for some months now and jot down everything I worked on in a small physical notebook. Starting with the time I got to work and ending with the time I shut down. So I also keep track of the hours I put into these tasks. Additionally I am a great fan of Cal Newports idea of a shutdown routine. That's my final task I have to hit in a day and wraps everything up: „Shutdown complete“. Once that is written down in the Moleskine my working days is really over. Works like charme.

    ps. about the coin loading bar, you're a fucking genius. I've been thinking about how cool a loading bar for work stuff would be for a while now.

    I love the way you word these things, it's easy to grasp - not hard to follow along with, and genuinely helpful. I find myself on your channel whenever I'm in a rut, or I want to feel less alone in the fact that I'm so demotivated in the first place. Thank you! Side note: my ADHD brain really struggled to focus on what you were saying when there's so many flashing images and loud fast-paced music 😬 I don't know if anyone else resonates, but I'm really hoping that your next one will be a little more subdued on the intense sensory stimulation. PS: I know that it's to maintain the attention of the audience, my lil brain just can't cope 🥲
