That's great mate, the sea is really well done but a well maintained oil fired turbine driven ship would only show a heat haze or shimmer at the funnel, I suspect the engineering commander on this ship would be 'interviewed' by the Captain quite sharpish.

I got back in to modeling with armour (tanks, military vehicles) which have become a favourite. Aircraft too and have recently acquired the the infamous Battleship Tirpitz, but it will be a while until I build that, still honing my skills. Not ever having built a ship of any sort, your video was a real inspiration and joy to watch and can only look forward to making a start with my own.
Apparently, HMS Rodney's 16" guns were so powerful that the recoil would make rivets ping out of the superstructure when she fired a broadside. But she kept firing. There was a ditty at the time, "Roll on the Rodney, the Nelson, the Renown / We ain't got the Hood, 'cause the Hood's gone down."
Only 4 hits that penetrated citadel. Only 4 hits that actually damaged something important out of 700 shots fired. Bismarck was sunk by own crew to prevent capture, as several Royal Navy battleships were unable to sink it from point blank range. Actual damaged was revealed when Bismarck wreck was discovered. One battlecruiser sunk (Hood), one battleships heavy damaged (Prince of Wales), one lucky torpedo hit and several hours of gunfire causing only superstructure damage. Rodney have 16" guns, but armor penetrating performace was not that great.
@@petrberanek4230 But Bismarck's guns, radar and bridge were pretty much destroyed. Price of Wales suffered because the civilian engineers on board hadn't fixed the teething problems with its guns.
@@petrberanek4230 Bismarck lasted two salvos from Rodney (18 shots) before she was no longer capable of fighting back (her forward turrets where destroyed along with her fire control and most of her crew on the bridge had been killed by shell splinters from these opening salvos. She was turned into a blazing hulk and it was only then that she was scuttled. From all accounts she would not have stayed afloat for very long had she not been scuttled. PoW was not 'heavily damaged' at all, she broke off the action because of her turrets malfunctioning (not because of hits received). She continued to shadow Bismarck and Eugen for many hours, firing the the odd salvo as the turrets were repaired. Please do not distort history.

Good afternoon! This model gives the appearance of a ship for the period 1936-1938. In 1941, the ship had a completely different look. I’m just now working on the construction of this model for that time period.
I like your style. You always add some few key details without going bananas about it. The seascape is really well done, and the railings really take things to the next level. I'm pretty new to small scale ships, and videos like this are a great inspiration. So, thank you for sharing.

Just seen the great build of the Rodney. However as you have built it as used against the Bismarck in 1941 you have omitted the catapult on the top of X turret. The catapult was removed in the refit of 1943.
I'm being very picky but at the back of any ship is a distinct straight trail caused by the propellers wash, maybe look at some photos , otherwise I'm impressed
Technically HMS Hood didn't damage anything as she scored no hits in the battle with Bismarck and Prinz Eugen. Minor quibble, I know. Great job with the model, looks excellent. I'd have a word with the Chief Engineer about that level of stack smoke, however, lol.
Nice model. What wonderful ships the Nelson and Rodney would have been if they had not been ruined by the Washington Treaty. The rear end and the third turret was sawn off, giving them the look of a large, angry oil tanker! Also very underpowered with only 2 shafts for about 22 knots. Slower than the WW1 Queen Elizabeths. Did great service, though, and those 16" guns did help to pound the Bismark into scrap metal.
Good Job, nice diorama. Why didn't you use the silicon method for the water effect like your victory boat ? Bad aging for the diorama with silicon ? I would like to make a diorama with the silicon method, but if it doesn't aging well, I will try other methods ;)
malcolmseb I found this method so much easier and it gives you plenty of time to really work the waves ! My victory diorama has age poorly it looks dusty but it's not for some reason it lost its shine !
Great build, I am building the U.S.S Manchester and it calls for colors of Dark sea blue and Flat gull Grey did you find and Buy those paint colors or did you use other colors to mix and make them and if so what colors did you use and how much of each color did you use,
Timothy Booker well with this kit the paint option available is the ship in 1944 which had a few colours, I chose the plain grey colour which was Vallejo dark ghost grey this was what the ship looked like in 1941 I think !
Pantelimon I’ve been finishing my 1/700 scale ships with some good detail in about a week each. Even with school on top of that. Scale modeling is about taking your time and enjoying it though right?
reakingringpiece thanks ! I glue the railings on with a little bit of super glue . The clay I use is just normal air drying clay, build it up in thin layers though to avoid to much cracking !

Tamiya made by far the best model kits in the 1980s, when I made this kits as a teenager. I had every 1/700 I could get my hands on back then. Ruined it with the smoke!
@@scalemodelling76 would have worked on an older coal burning ship. Try making doing it in high seas, maybe with waves crashing over bow, or the ship rolling.

Looks great! Btw Did you let the clay air dry for some hours before painting? Or was it about 1 hour or so after? And how long did the still water glaze dry before applying water texture:) ? And finally, what type of color did you use to highlight ?
daniel karlsen the clay I left overnight to dry then I filled the cracks with more thin layers of clay again leaving to dry overnight before paint . As for the glaze it takes a good hour or so to dry . The water texture gel takes a good few hours to dry too . If your talking about the ocean colour highlights I just mixed my own light blue/grey . Hello I was wondering if at all possible if you could do a Royal Australian Navy ship, it annoys me to see that no one ever talks about the RAN (or the Australian military in wwii) , like we are barely mentioned, we had crucial battles in the Mediterranean and pacific, but we where always over shadowed by the Americans and other powers

Was the clay the air dry type? And did it stay pliable till you got it all down?

have you tried using the photo etched parts on your models,with things like radars,railings .tricky but can make a model really something to look at.
Very nice, but the smoke is far too thick. Going at constant speed out to sea the smoke plume would only have been visible within--at most--a mile.
Peter Lewerin yeah I see what you mean it’s a tricky one because thinner cotton would reveal the sprue underneath, should of left it off, but then again I really wanted some smoke ! Thanks for the comment!

I thought the smoke spoiled it, as it looked too solid , rather than having a more transparent appearance as it rose higher in the sky..
