awesome job showing tracks vs. tires (even huge tires) to highlight the advantage a track has. But also, fantastic job showing how there is a time and place to use momentum even very brief sometimes), but how important it is to turn your tires or tracks very slowly whenever your ground speed drops off and you start churning through the soft stuff. More crawling, less churning works wonders. This is exactly how we drive our Alaska Bush Tracks when it gets reeeeeally bad lol.

Definitely 😅😅 it's a 22" blade and I am going to try and drop down to a 20" to help it out. I don't think it was designed to move that much snow lol
What we need is a Sherp with as much weight removed as possible. A 1600-1800 lb Sherp with a super lightweight canvas body with the tires aired down to 0.5 psi would do amazing in the snow.

I’ve always wondered how deep6ixx would do with a custom set of tracks on it. Although you know as well as I do with our 6x6s, they’re pretty gutless.
I pray every night for a set of backcountry tracks for Deep6ixx lol. I would build the motor for more power as well

I looked at getting either a good used set of tracks for my Wildcat Trail 700 or big 30 inch snow tires from System 3 SS360 …so I decided on the SS360 tires 🛞 30x10x14 for playing in deep snow this winter ….so far I’ve only tried them im 12 inches and they performed great ….can’t wait for another Foot of snow to fall 😃

The SxS weight distribution over the tracks isn't, optimal. There's quite a bit of float and traction being wasted by too much weight over the short front tracks. If you build a lightweight aluminum extension rack that extends flush to the rear of the rear tracks, and then relocate alot of the easy movable weight to the very rear, like the battery, cargo etc, maybe even the radiator. It will have significantly better deep powder float and performance. I would also be putting some lightweight fenders over those tracks to stop the snow spray.
The backcountry tracks make it where no other tracks on the market can. I think they work killer. Definitely would like some front snow deflectors though lol
@@ostacruiser Oh yeah, for sure! It's definitely the preimium track option available. I'm always engineering/optimizing setups in my head though, can't help it. Thats an awesome setup, and I think it could be even better with a little weight moved to the rear, seeimg how far back the tracks extend.

Being a snowmobile rider only, I'm curious wouldn't having skis of the front of the side by side be better? I did rally with a group of guys and they had a turbo side by side and then a group of us with snowmobiles and I could tell how the side by side struggled in a lot of spots. Idk what do you all think
If it was 2wd then skis in the front would be better. But, since it’s 4wd having tracks on the front too let’s them help pull. In light snow they’ll still struggle since it’s heavy for the contact patch compared to a snowmobile.

The tracks are a little over 30"s tall and they were sunk about as deep as you can sink them and we didn't hit ground yet. Definitely alot of snow but after a few feet it doesn't matter if it's 30ft deep. You only ride on the top couple of feet.
which windshield is that the oem one? in alberta and getting an x3 soon just wondering which is better to not freeze up in the winter the oem on the BM glass one
Yes this is the brp glass windshield with the wiper/washer kit. Really nice stuff. Works very well

Bro do you think the camso tracks ( new Gen ) would have the same effectiveness as the back country ? We run the UTV and ATV camso new gens on our Hondas and the XMR 1000 99% for mud and bogs and have found them unbeatable we also ran the apache360 and found them quite lacking compared to the camso ones but I’m wondering in the snow would they compare to the backcountry system ?
The camsos will do well on packed/groomed trails, and 2-3' of snow on flat ground. But they would be terrible in what Osta is doing in this video. The camso lug depth and overall contact area just aren't enough for really deep snow, especially in hilly or mountain terrain.
There were a couple guys that ran camsos in the mountains. They couldn't ever make it far off the packed trails. The backcountry tracks are the only deep snow track on the market. They work so well
Pretty much what I thought, we used the camsos up the hills during our bad winter of 2021 some areas 4-7ft of snow worked amazingly well but that was heavy wet snow so kinda packed down nicely. Dried fluffy stuff I assume would be different …. We use the tracks for mud mostly abs heavy loads etc the new camso stuff is good especially the UTV it’s much wider and larger than the ATV tracks
How is the wabasto heater doing in the sherp this year?
I haven't used it yet. The Sherp sits in the heated shop when not in ice and the small coolant heater by your legs has been working great for keeping the entire cab warm

Tracks on the Sherp would not be a good fit for it, due to the humongous tires, not to mention the body well is in the way and would have to be modified. Not worth the effort on a Sherp.

Osta are you running upgraded tie rod ends on your X3? I know those tracks take a toll on tie rods at full lock left or right.
On Ghost we ran S3 HD tie rods. Stock still on Wraith but we have spares lol
