IMPORTANT NOTE I screwed up a little with what I said about magic resistance. I was misunderstanding how bonuses add up. I thought they stacked additively, but they actually stack multiplicatively. Additionally, the "true cap" isn't 97.5%, but actually 97.75% It's not really that big a deal imo, because the method I gave gives you around a 92.5% resistance to all magic, as opposed to 97.5% (if you disregard my "12.5% or higher" comment and just enchant as high a percentage as you possibly can). However, in light of my screw up, I believe the following setup to be slightly better. It's a small tweak of what I said in the video. Realistically it won't make that much of a difference, but if you're a perfectionist and want to hit that "true cap" I was discussing, this is the closest you can get: imgur.com/a/ySSy4 This will give you a total of 85% magic resistance, 85% fire resistance, and 85% frost resistance. The end result is a 97.75% (ie, the "true cap") resistance to all frost and fire magic, and an 85% resistance to shock magic. That's pretty much the closest you can get to hitting the "true cap" with this character. Sorry for the slight mess up. My next build is going to deal with magic in a slightly different and more interesting way. I think you guys will like it :
So, for a beginner, playing this role requires lots of magicka, then stamina and because of lack of resistance at the beginning require health....how do you suggest from beginning to high lvl up ? Tought about sneaking archery assassination yes, but some place requires battle (dragon priest, dragon in low level game - sword (1h skill) & shield or 2h in case many low level foes for quick kill)...as you see, it might be confused and non optimal at the beginning, any advice ? :P
Roshank Redemption I personally would drop light armor perks for alchemy, then use the enchanting/alchemy loop to increase lower level armor like elven to armor cap. I also would move some of the illusion perks to sneak. Everyone is different though.
This is why I have the cheat room mod. I've played this game so many times over, I deserve to be free of grinding so I usually just grab what I need or give myself a handicap.
With the exception of daggers (which I only use in emergencies), this is similar to the build I’m playing as a stealthy arcane-archer (Breton, of course). It’s extremely fun to play! I like the way you presented the build, especially the charts showing the Skills and relevant Perks. I like how you’ve color coded the charts to indicate which Perks are essential and explained why. I found your description of how to achieve the magic resistance cap very informative and will no doubt be using some of those methods in my own play-through.

This biuld is kinda close to my own personal favorite but from illusion skill I use only quite casting perk, with muffle, and invincibility spells. For standing stone Atronah with additional 30% spell absorb from alteration skill tree with previous combination of vampire necromage perk from restoration skill tree.
for a pretty cool look, I used Dawnguard heavy armor (brown) with Vampire boots, Dawnguard heavy gloves & Torturers hood. I just worked with alchemy and enchanting for a bit to make restoration potions and then enchanting potions. My character has much better sneaking, muffle, pick-pocketing, lock picking & archery than any suit you can get in the game. For my weapon of choice, its the Dwarven Crossbow (Gold in color).
Yes!!!! Maximum Agreement! I created an Illusionist Assassin in Skyrim years ago and it was the most powerful build I ever created (at high levels). Even better than my mighty warriors. Building the character was fun because at low levels you could be a little squishy so everything required strategy.
One of my fave builds is a Khajit sneak/thief using nothing but unarmed and illusion. I love how you can pre-cast invisibility before interracting with a chest/NPC/door so that after you exit the menu you're invisible again.
I'm going to use this build in Skyrim Special Edition on Ps4 but I'm not going to use a bow to spice things up, I'm looking forward to using this build. :)
I remember back then when I try playing assassin class on skyrim, after couple hours I come to conclusion this build is nothing but way to extend ur game play time by about 2/3 compare to a warrior class who just charge in and kill every one.
The fastest killer is not a warrior, is a mage. An enhanced Fireball or two can kill lots of enemies much faster than both an Assassin or a 2 Handed Warrior.
There was a REALLY old playthrough of this build a while back that I loved. You were able to play legendary difficulty and oneshot enemies with a backstab and an upgraded daedric dagger
means straight up stronger spells, e. g. where calm would effect lvl 20 it will then effect lvl 23 enemies. one of the only ways to boost the illusion spells lvl cap, therefor highly recommend
wasn´t that, that this perk literally made every spell you cast on yourself stronger if you´re a vampire due to bad programming, like your shields, your illusions your restoration spells?
Good build my dude. There's bit of difference between build and playstyle, a good build will take you far but your play style is how you move through the game. I enjoy the assassin play style, stealth, sniping, curving arrow shots, making a multitude of poisons. ect. Any way thumbs up for you.
I think a more fitting name for this build would be " The Magician " in reference to Malcolm Merlyn, since they are both incredibly similar ( they're both nearly undetectable assassins, skilled in archery and one handed blades, who have insatiable ambition.
Expert illusion spells duel caster are better then the mast spells. Also using all of the Alteration perks for magical resistance being a vampire with the Restoration perk that makes your spells more effective to undead and the atronoch stone makes you 100% immune to magical attacks
I originally planned for a destruction mage, but i kept getting killed, i eventually got tired of fighting enemies myself... and dabble in frenzy magic. I eventually reached level 75 in illusion and learned Invisibility. Most Used Skills: Detect Life Invisibility Pacify (After getting spotted by groups of enemies) Frenzy (Encountering groups of enemies that may be troublesome/ Hard to stealth kill)
I don't know if it as already been said, and apologize if, but their is actually some way to improved your build. First you need to do the thief guild and complete it 5no real problème for an illusionnist) and obtain the nightingale cloak and the amulet of articulation. With the first one you can take care of the switch between bow and spell (if you are lasy or don't want to do the second part and wast any skill point) and with the second one by using it before a conversation you will persuade almost every one (all none scripted dialog) witch is role play for this character. The second thing will need you to go for the last perk of the sneak skill tree witch is shadow warrior. This will alow you to disapear for a really short moment when you sneak in batle at first it is disigned for range character with follower I think because ennemies will search for an other target, but you can also use it when you are close to an ennemie, and then attack with your dagger, it will alow you to performe a sneak attack, and do it at will. (plus sometime it trigers the sneak cinematique witch teleported you in to the back of your ennemie witch is cool) But it reacquiered some traning in order to find the right timing ( also sorry for the spelling mistake I'm french)
I had a sneaking Illusion build character in the original Skyrim, but mine focused on using Summoning for the main damage (and using the Summoner perk to cast at a distance along with the Quite Casting perk.) . I would use the Mayhem spell, then summon two Dremora Lords, and watch the action from the safety of my own little hidey hole or invis spell. Still had a problems with dragons, until I mastered enchanting and made a set that would give free Restoration magic, so I could just hide behind a Ward (with the occasional heal) while the Summoned creatures took care of it.Cool build, I like the way you integrated everything in the build, (ie illusion, into sneak, in bow and sword, into enchanting ect) explained the choices, and which ones were most important. (the colour coding was nice touch, and the back story was pretty good) May make me put another spin on my own character (though mine was more of a hero who didn't like to get his hands dirty :p )
Being a vampire strengthens your illusion skills. I do harmony and mayhem all the damn time. Like you mentioned, 100 Enchanting is very very vital but so is Alchemy. all you need in alchemy are the alchemist, physician and benefactor perks so you can do the fortify restoration/enchanting loop. So that way you can make all the potions you need to fortify your enchanting to mind boggling numbers, like 10,000,000%. One hit deaths with bows, unlimited magicka stamina and health, unlimited sneak to the point where invisibility and muffle is unnecessary and virtually unlimited carry weight and one/two handed attack. Plus you can pick any master lock without moving the lockpick so the skeleton key is obsolete.
Ayden 808killer Just collect a bunch of sould gems and jewelry. Keep buying soul gems every time you visit a merchant/wizard and keep enchanting jewelry until you are 100. You can even make cheap iron daggers and enchant them. I think common soul gems and above can get you to 100 enchanting faster. I guess you can collect petty and lesser soul gems but don't waste your time buying them. When you find them from loot chest, take them. If you have the soul trap perk from the conjuring tree, every conjured (bound) weapon you summon takes your enemy's soul when you kill them. That's great for filling your empty soul gems. But yeah, try enchanting a bunch of jewelry. It really works. It can go faster if you have the transmute spell from the alteration school. Every iron ore you mine/buy can turn into silver and gold ore. Keep mining iron ore, transmute it to silver or gold and just make gold/silver rings and enchant them.
Im trying to make a: 1. thief build 2. assassin build 3. battlemage build with one handed and two handed skills 4. archer build all in one go….. is it possible? I find this guide to be very helpful in picking perks even for other races. Im currently playing a khajiit character for the extra lockpicking and sneak skills!
alchemy is a prerequisite for any build. resto pot/ fortify enchant/ fortify smithing will expedite you level progress and give you freedom to build how you please.
I have a necromage vampire utilizing these skills. but using a bound dagger and bound bow. vampires get a 25% boost to illusion spells and sneak and add necromage effect(restoration perk) and all spells and enchantments are 25% better when used or worn on you very OP!
You can just get boots that give the Muffled Movement & Sneak enchants. And since you go fully into Enchantment, you can use Muffle along with Fire/Ice enchant. And then switch other resistances to different items. Getting Invisibility is obviously good for a magic spell, but the Muffle definitely isn't needed. I made a Assassin with Fear/Fury/Paralyze along with Invis, which is absolutely amazing. Although I went more melee/bow damage heavy instead of more into resistances. I used the dual enchant perk to just add magic resistances to certain items to the point that I take no damage. Well I take minimal damage. I also used armor mods because I don't really like the vanilla armor's besides the Dark Brotherhood stuff, but late game it becomes really weak. But I don't use like the massive overpowered stuff because that makes the game boring Lol I like the build, but there's definitely different ways to go about getting specific things, mainly the Muffled magic and Magic resist things.
I would recommend that u didn't stick with the most powerful weapons and armour and rather use ones which fit ur character (for example with this character u could use and ebony bow and daedric dagger which fit with the dark tones of this build as well as armour such as the nightingale armour mixed with something else mixed in)
at this point in time everyone has editions of the game that have the DLCs (I personally have the legendary edition on the ps3) so no one should have a problem trying this build. alchemy would make this build (or any build really) even more deadly. do the restoration potion loop just enough to get 400-500% enchanting potions (for spell cost reductions you only need at least 400%). the enchantment on one item of your gear would be like having a full set at peerless (a full set like this gets into the demigod stage lol). for this type of build enchant all the pieces you can with fortify one handed and bow (even the weakest weapons in the game could hit like a truck) throw in the reduce illusion cost on an item at 100% and you should have little to nothing to worry about. I do suggest you don't go crazy with the resto loop it can and will break things in the game. I actually broke the alchemy table in the main hall of lakeview manor even broke the weight carry on a character and insta died when I removed armor with fortify health and health regen on it. so do the loop with caution!
I’ve done this before, and imo it just takes the fun out of the game, having to actually strategize and using game mechanics is what makes it fun (for me at least). But to each their own, play the game however you enjoy most.

I made an assassin character with only 100 health - only putting points into stamina and magicka, and purposely played the game so that I would take zero damage, it's a fun way of playing and makes you actually want to sneak and be more careful - I recommend it to anyone, the bow is your friend but it's all the more satisfying when you slit an enemies throat with mehrunes razor.
You kind of complicated the magic resistance if you have the Dragonborn DlC you can just use Miraak’s robes, boots, and gloves and use the atronach standing stone to get over 100 percent magic resistance
Your game looks amazing! Makes me wish I wasn't a console player haha. Such a powerful build! Perhaps too powerful? Nothing would be able to harm you, it'd make the game too easy, in my opinion. Then again, I suppose this is explained by the character's "god complex". I really enjoyed the backstory! I liked how the Illusionist as a child was loved by everyone except those who knew his true nature. I was quite surprised Speech wasn't one of his skills... Did he grow tired of trying to get everyone to like him as he grew older? I hope not! I would have liked to hear more about how to roleplay this aspect of his personality. Perhaps by aiming to become friends with everyone, telling everyone what they want to hear (regardless of whether he believes in it) just to gain their favour, etc. I also felt like this build mastered too many skills. Illusion, Sneak, Archery, Smithing, Light Armour, One-handed, Enchanting, Alteration... That's a *lot* of perk points! Also, you mention Dawnguard a lot but you don't talk about becoming a vampire? It'd suit this build so well! The illusion and sneak bonus, for starters. All that said, this video gave me a few good ideas for my illusion-assassin character, so thanks!
The game is already too easy without min-maxing the game to this extent, you might as well gimp yourself or go all out in my opinion. Even on legendary this game is just too easy.
i already have illusionist.race & magic resist not important for this build because u have spell Muffle + invisible. only second important is sneak,one handed + become vampire/VL (boost effect spell illusion)
Your showdown in this video is very well done. The same is to say for the editing. But I personally would prefer a 100% magicka absorption over 85% magicka plus 85% elemental resistance. A vampire necromancer can reach full 100% magicka absorption without the use of any enchantment, which makes magicka resistance (and therefore the Breton entirely) obsolete for this build. Go orc. Their racial ability can't be replaced by any other method and it can last up to 1.5 minutes once per day. Aside from that orcs are the semi fastest race in the game (only high elves run faster) which is a excellent hidden feature.
in truth i i have no idea what to start with its really how you play as the character i mean what are you better with illusion or Archery. me myself im better with Archery so i started with that.
I made a mage character when first playing this game but have seen a lot of people using bows and killing enemies quickly or when a couple arrows. I decided I want to make an assassin type character but one that also uses draggers and maybe some magic but not a lot of youtube videos have characters using both bows and draggers. There either really stealthy or using fury I guess to make enemies fight each other.
Do you not get the roll perk for this character. It seems like a good perk from people I have seen that use it. I usually max out the sneak Tree and getting archery maxed seem powerful when you can paralyze people
I'm pretty sure one-handed doesn't affect daggers at all. at least when it comes to enchantments, due to a bug, daggers are affected by fortify archery, not fortify one-handed. not sure if it applies to the one-handed perk though.
this is really timely, I just started a new game for an illusionist assassin but was thinking hard whether to go with one-handed or archery. I'm using combat mods and Racial Disparity in expert mode so it's a rough start for my Breton...
I don't get why people would bother playing an RPG if they want people to tell them how to play it, that is the whole point of playing an RPG, finding your own path, making your own story along the way. Even tips and tricks videos are just stupid, just play the game, It annoys me how everybody seeks out for answers on how to do things the best way instead of just playing the fucking game, just ruins fun you could be having.

Actually all resistances top out at a flat 85% no matter what you do.
My PTSD of grinding those levels is coming back.
Skill mods, get to playing that new build of yours in a couple hours or sooner. There's a few even on the Special Edition on consoles too. ^^

When the game says "Stronger Illusion Spells", what does that mean? I could never understand it. Does it mean they last longer, or something?

do that level restoration to 70 get undead perk do more damage to yourself which means you do more to every body

I don't know if it as already been said, and apologize if, but their is actually some way to improved your build. First you need to do the thief guild and complete it 5no real problème for an illusionnist) and obtain the nightingale cloak and the amulet of articulation. With the first one you can take care of the switch between bow and spell (if you are lasy or don't want to do the second part and wast any skill point) and with the second one by using it before a conversation you will persuade almost every one (all none scripted dialog) witch is role play for this character. The second thing will need you to go for the last perk of the sneak skill tree witch is shadow warrior. This will alow you to disapear for a really short moment when you sneak in batle at first it is disigned for range character with follower I think because ennemies will search for an other target, but you can also use it when you are close to an ennemie, and then attack with your dagger, it will alow you to performe a sneak attack, and do it at will. (plus sometime it trigers the sneak cinematique witch teleported you in to the back of your ennemie witch is cool) But it reacquiered some traning in order to find the right timing ( also sorry for the spelling mistake I'm french)
I had a sneaking Illusion build character in the original Skyrim, but mine focused on using Summoning for the main damage (and using the Summoner perk to cast at a distance along with the Quite Casting perk.) . I would use the Mayhem spell, then summon two Dremora Lords, and watch the action from the safety of my own little hidey hole or invis spell. Still had a problems with dragons, until I mastered enchanting and made a set that would give free Restoration magic, so I could just hide behind a Ward (with the occasional heal) while the Summoned creatures took care of it.Cool build, I like the way you integrated everything in the build, (ie illusion, into sneak, in bow and sword, into enchanting ect) explained the choices, and which ones were most important. (the colour coding was nice touch, and the back story was pretty good) May make me put another spin on my own character (though mine was more of a hero who didn't like to get his hands dirty :p )

Being a vampire strengthens your illusion skills. I do harmony and mayhem all the damn time. Like you mentioned, 100 Enchanting is very very vital but so is Alchemy. all you need in alchemy are the alchemist, physician and benefactor perks so you can do the fortify restoration/enchanting loop. So that way you can make all the potions you need to fortify your enchanting to mind boggling numbers, like 10,000,000%. One hit deaths with bows, unlimited magicka stamina and health, unlimited sneak to the point where invisibility and muffle is unnecessary and virtually unlimited carry weight and one/two handed attack. Plus you can pick any master lock without moving the lockpick so the skeleton key is obsolete.

Ayden 808killer Just collect a bunch of sould gems and jewelry. Keep buying soul gems every time you visit a merchant/wizard and keep enchanting jewelry until you are 100. You can even make cheap iron daggers and enchant them. I think common soul gems and above can get you to 100 enchanting faster. I guess you can collect petty and lesser soul gems but don't waste your time buying them. When you find them from loot chest, take them.
If you have the soul trap perk from the conjuring tree, every conjured (bound) weapon you summon takes your enemy's soul when you kill them. That's great for filling your empty soul gems.
But yeah, try enchanting a bunch of jewelry. It really works. It can go faster if you have the transmute spell from the alteration school. Every iron ore you mine/buy can turn into silver and gold ore. Keep mining iron ore, transmute it to silver or gold and just make gold/silver rings and enchant them.

What a complete overkill. This build works with Illusion and Sneak at 75-80. Everything else is redundant...
You can use the dragon shrout to stop the time around you to have much more fun killin your foes

alchemy is a prerequisite for any build. resto pot/ fortify enchant/ fortify smithing will expedite you level progress and give you freedom to build how you please.

I have a necromage vampire utilizing these skills. but using a bound dagger and bound bow. vampires get a 25% boost to illusion spells and sneak and add necromage effect(restoration perk) and all spells and enchantments are 25% better when used or worn on you very OP!

i love casting invisibility over and over to get out of every possible situation
You can just get boots that give the Muffled Movement & Sneak enchants. And since you go fully into Enchantment, you can use Muffle along with Fire/Ice enchant. And then switch other resistances to different items. Getting Invisibility is obviously good for a magic spell, but the Muffle definitely isn't needed. I made a Assassin with Fear/Fury/Paralyze along with Invis, which is absolutely amazing. Although I went more melee/bow damage heavy instead of more into resistances. I used the dual enchant perk to just add magic resistances to certain items to the point that I take no damage. Well I take minimal damage. I also used armor mods because I don't really like the vanilla armor's besides the Dark Brotherhood stuff, but late game it becomes really weak. But I don't use like the massive overpowered stuff because that makes the game boring Lol
I like the build, but there's definitely different ways to go about getting specific things, mainly the Muffled magic and Magic resist things.
I would recommend that u didn't stick with the most powerful weapons and armour and rather use ones which fit ur character (for example with this character u could use and ebony bow and daedric dagger which fit with the dark tones of this build as well as armour such as the nightingale armour mixed with something else mixed in)
at this point in time everyone has editions of the game that have the DLCs (I personally have the legendary edition on the ps3) so no one should have a problem trying this build. alchemy would make this build (or any build really) even more deadly. do the restoration potion loop just enough to get 400-500% enchanting potions (for spell cost reductions you only need at least 400%). the enchantment on one item of your gear would be like having a full set at peerless (a full set like this gets into the demigod stage lol). for this type of build enchant all the pieces you can with fortify one handed and bow (even the weakest weapons in the game could hit like a truck) throw in the reduce illusion cost on an item at 100% and you should have little to nothing to worry about. I do suggest you don't go crazy with the resto loop it can and will break things in the game. I actually broke the alchemy table in the main hall of lakeview manor even broke the weight carry on a character and insta died when I removed armor with fortify health and health regen on it. so do the loop with caution!
I’ve done this before, and imo it just takes the fun out of the game, having to actually strategize and using game mechanics is what makes it fun (for me at least). But to each their own, play the game however you enjoy most.

I'll add some conjuration just because the character is a Breton. Bound bow and soul siphon could save a lot of time and money!
I made an assassin character with only 100 health - only putting points into stamina and magicka, and purposely played the game so that I would take zero damage, it's a fun way of playing and makes you actually want to sneak and be more careful - I recommend it to anyone, the bow is your friend but it's all the more satisfying when you slit an enemies throat with mehrunes razor.
I feel the nightingale armor is a very good alternative

You kind of complicated the magic resistance if you have the Dragonborn DlC you can just use Miraak’s robes, boots, and gloves and use the atronach standing stone to get over 100 percent magic resistance

Such a powerful build! Perhaps too powerful? Nothing would be able to harm you, it'd make the game too easy, in my opinion. Then again, I suppose this is explained by the character's "god complex".
I really enjoyed the backstory! I liked how the Illusionist as a child was loved by everyone except those who knew his true nature. I was quite surprised Speech wasn't one of his skills... Did he grow tired of trying to get everyone to like him as he grew older? I hope not! I would have liked to hear more about how to roleplay this aspect of his personality. Perhaps by aiming to become friends with everyone, telling everyone what they want to hear (regardless of whether he believes in it) just to gain their favour, etc.
I also felt like this build mastered too many skills. Illusion, Sneak, Archery, Smithing, Light Armour, One-handed, Enchanting, Alteration... That's a *lot* of perk points!
Also, you mention Dawnguard a lot but you don't talk about becoming a vampire? It'd suit this build so well! The illusion and sneak bonus, for starters.
All that said, this video gave me a few good ideas for my illusion-assassin character, so thanks!
The game is already too easy without min-maxing the game to this extent, you might as well gimp yourself or go all out in my opinion. Even on legendary this game is just too easy.

i already have illusionist.race & magic resist not important for this build because u have spell Muffle + invisible.

Your showdown in this video is very well done. The same is to say for the editing.
But I personally would prefer a 100% magicka absorption over 85% magicka plus 85% elemental resistance.
A vampire necromancer can reach full 100% magicka absorption without the use of any enchantment, which makes magicka resistance (and therefore the Breton entirely) obsolete for this build.
Go orc. Their racial ability can't be replaced by any other method and it can last up to 1.5 minutes once per day.
Aside from that orcs are the semi fastest race in the game (only high elves run faster) which is a excellent hidden feature.

What is the recommended distribution between magicka health and stamina on this build?
I made a mage character when first playing this game but have seen a lot of people using bows and killing enemies quickly or when a couple arrows. I decided I want to make an assassin type character but one that also uses draggers and maybe some magic but not a lot of youtube videos have characters using both bows and draggers. There either really stealthy or using fury I guess to make enemies fight each other.
Do you not get the roll perk for this character. It seems like a good perk from people I have seen that use it. I usually max out the sneak Tree and getting archery maxed seem powerful when you can paralyze people

I'm pretty sure one-handed doesn't affect daggers at all. at least when it comes to enchantments, due to a bug, daggers are affected by fortify archery, not fortify one-handed. not sure if it applies to the one-handed perk though.
you should have included the point ratio I did 40/50/10 that ten was so I was not stopping every two seconds of my life gasping for air
this is really timely, I just started a new game for an illusionist assassin but was thinking hard whether to go with one-handed or archery. I'm using combat mods and Racial Disparity in expert mode so it's a rough start for my Breton...

I don't get why people would bother playing an RPG if they want people to tell them how to play it, that is the whole point of playing an RPG, finding your own path, making your own story along the way. Even tips and tricks videos are just stupid, just play the game, It annoys me how everybody seeks out for answers on how to do things the best way instead of just playing the fucking game, just ruins fun you could be having.
Shadow Warrior in the Sneak Skill lets you have unlimited invisibility simply by crouching over and over.
