  • Hiking poncho I am showing you the advantages of using a Ferrino rain cape. The main one being, total protection for yourself and your backpack. Confidence when hiking in stormy conditions, with heavy rain. Who needs a pack cover when you have the Ferrino poncho ?

    Hi and welcome back to Hike and Seeker channel.
    In today's episode, I want to show you the advantages of using the Ferrino rain cape in the rain.
    I have used many different rain jackets to keep dry on the trail. The main problem was my pack cover never seemed to keep my pack completely dry.
    This Ferrino hiking poncho takes care of that problem. As I explained you don't have to take the Ferrino hiking poncho off in light showers or between showers. It can drape over the back of your pack and be ready to use again if it rains.
    Stay dry out there on the trail and I'll see you on the next episode!

    I have one of those on my wish list. Good to see. During monsoon season, New Mexico, when it rains, it's like you're standing under a waterfall.

      Thanks for the comment Julia. The poncho works well, but in the monsoon season your talking about rain pants would be an absolute. Also your hiking shoes would get wet in the run off some protection there would be needed as well.

      Why on your wish list?! It's 40 bucks.

    Thank you again for the review, searched for different rain gear and bought many expensive jackets, and tried many subpar gears and your review was extremely helpful to get something that works for me.

      My pleasure, I'm glad it helped you to decide. I don't think there is any such thing as perfect rain protection. The Ferrino rain cape with my Marmot minimalist rain pants on is the closest I have come. Especially carrying a backpack

    You could roll your sleeves past your elbows. Instead of taking your arms out of sleeves. Thanks for the review.

      Your right you could do it that way, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I prefer to have my arms completely free to use my trekking poles and to keep me cool, as usually the temperatures here are quite mild. Having the sleeves bunched up and tending to roll down would annoy me.

    I got one on the Camino during winter. Cold and rainy. This poncho was amazing. I used it as an extra layer of warmth too. Weather had a feels-like temperature of 20F. Windy and rainy.
    Also, although it doesn’t have pit zips, it does have two grommets under each armpit. Not as good as a big pit zip, but does provide some ventilation.

      Thanks for the feedback. It has become my rain wear of choice now. Coupled with some lightweight rain pants.

      I just returned from the Francis . My pancho was worthless wspecially on the hurricane winds on the Mesita. I am buying this today ! as I am going back in April to finish the Leon to Sarria section than off to Porto than Primivo. Buen Camino. Richy😃

      Thanks for the comment. The closest I have been to hurricane winds is watching out of my window. The only thing I can say is in severe weather, with the poncho and rain pants I kept perfectly dry. I have said before, the run off from the poncho and rain pants onto your hiking shoes can be a problem.

    Great review, it looks good. I have been considering getting a poncho-style rain jacket. I just bought myself an Aarn body back, so this won't fit the front balance pockets.

      Thanks. As you say this poncho will not suit your backpack set up. It may just work, but not be comfortable.

    I have something similar. Snugpack patrol poncho. It’s a pullover. Your zip may be a step better.

    • @HikeandSeeker
      @HikeandSeeker  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't heard of the snug pack patrol poncho Bryan. The waterproof zip with the storm flap over seems to work really well with the Ferrino cape. A pull over poncho may be more difficult with a large pack. I haven't tested your poncho brand so I'm only guessing.

    I was thinking of buying this poncho and saphirose poncho 3 in 1 by amazon. I'm closer to buying a ferrino poncho after watching this video. So i can not decide easily which one is better for me. I'm 5.7 and 176 lbs. Also i have 75 litre pack. M-S or L-XL for me ?

    • @HikeandSeeker
      @HikeandSeeker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching the video. I think you will be fine with a S-M I would say 6ft or over would be L-XL

    Hello thanks for showing us - which size has the poncho ?

    • @HikeandSeeker
      @HikeandSeeker  ปีที่แล้ว

      As I said in the video. I am 6ft tall around 80 kilos and I had a 75 litre pack on. The poncho was L-XL. I would say under 6ft a S-M would be OK . Thanks for watching the video.

      I brought the rain cape from Trekkinn. I think they are based in Europe somewhere. I have used them lots of times in the past. www.tradeinn.com/trekkinn/en. This should be the link. Price around $93 Australian.
