    It would be great if someone would market an affordable home storage battery. Solar panels are affordable but home batteries still seem to be several times more expensive than car batteries. Imagine not having to be enslaved to electricity monopolies!

      Well, what would be an affordable price? The KWh in Germany is currently at about 175 Euro. The battery as such (no box around it and no electronics) leaves the plant in China at 55$. Battery plant capacity will quadruple according the Bloomberg in 2025.

    Geeking... I make supercapacitors and batteries as a DIY thing...
    Rattan or bamboo have awesome properties as a carbon source. Hydolize it in low PH for a while and the carbon structures are left behind.
    I can see trees as being a great source of fine-grain carbon for batteries.

    Please note that a battery needs also Aluminum and Copper. According to Frauenhofer Institute in Germany, the lower power density of Sodium batteries cause more Copper and Aluminium usage. This offsets the environmental benefit of not using Lithium.

    • @shawnnoyes4620

  • @netgnostic1627
    @netgnostic1627 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Maybe the sodium collected from desalination plants can be used for this. Most of those plants just pump the waste salt back into the water - but the salinity of the water in the area ends up being so high that it kills all the underwater plants, fish and shellfish. Collecting it for a useful purpose would be great.

    100 Wh/kg is not terrible. In a mature ubiquitous EV super charging network, 100 Wh/kg should be perfecly viable, as EVs won't require the range if they can charge to 80% in around 10 minutes. If for example 140 Wh/kg for an average EV gives you 500 km range, then that same vehicle should get at least 300 km range, which is fine if you have 10 minute EV super charging everywhere. Most drivers require a 10 minute break after driving 200 km, there wouldn't be any significant inconvenience to have to recharge at around 300 km. For urban and suburban driving, a range of 300 km is often more than sufficient. Many EV owners primarily use their vehicles for daily commutes and local trips, where frequent but short recharges would be manageable.
