Caught my first Corbina a few years ago, they are sucha. Wonderful fish. Caught it with a fly on conventional gear. Still trying to get my first on fly gear.

Ahhh indeed, for those who sight fish these guys, it's truly a game of cat and mouse and they truly are a jewel of our coast. Getting em on the fly is not easy but certainly possible as some of the OG's like Glenn wack em at an astonishing level of skill.

As a fly fisherman this video was so incredibly useful. I just started surf fishing on the fly about a year ago and have only managed to grab about a dozen surf perch. Thank you for this video

Awesome video! Ran into Glenn yesterday on the sand in HB hunting corbina.
Benji spot on with live smelt for halibut.. almost no skill involved, my buddies don’t seem to understand that anyone can bait and wait

When I was 8yo my dad made me a mini pump. He would sit in the car at low tide while I pumped ghost shrimp in Huntington harbor. Very cool to see surf fishing is still alive.

Haha dad's putting their kids to work!! It's interesting for me that some of the best finesse surf fishermen I currently know are also avid offshore guys targeting pelagics. Shows me that the thrill of the hunt and finding that bite has different, yet very similar challenges in each context.

What a rad fireside chat! I've been in SoCal for a year, and have had some luck with the Corbina this summer on a carolina rig. haha thanks so much Nick!! Dude, piers for Macks, bays for spotties, rays, whatever, its all about getting out there and enjoying our amazing fishery, so its all good!
But yes, so much amazing and diverse ways to enjoy our fishery and if you haven't already, hunting some sight fished corbina on the fly might be one of the pinnacles of SoCal waters!

To all anglers and none anglers, don't discard trash anywhere other than at the appropriate containers. Seeing more and more trash out there. I've personally witnessed "fishermen" dumping trash right where they were fishing. incredible to have to confront "grown men" about this while on the sand....

On my bucket list is to catch a stripper in the South Bay. Have you seen many caught in this area?… or do you have to go further north?

I have not, but I'm inclined to believe that they are around. There are more stripers in our waters than most people think, but I've never targeted them nor have I gotten lucky enough to get one.
At the same time, Stripers are a NorCal fish. Starting from around Monterey up to the Bay area, they can be very abundant when they're running. Would be the most logical area to target them imo.

The life of a fish whether stocked trout or wild should be ethical when handling them. Life force is the same in both fish stocked or wild. I don’t keep fish from my fly fishing experience but however if someone is eating the fish they catch is more respectful to me in the cycle of life than someone pulling fish out of their environment for pleasure (sport fishing, fly fishing). To me a fisherman that disrespected the sport is the one that bring the fish to the bank and drop the fish to the sand causing mayor damage to the fish eyes and skin. A fish ones caught should be handled as a baby with tenderness and don’t dump them into the water either.🙏
