The new Gen 5 Glock 23 has a thicker slide than the older gen Glocks. One of the issues with the older 40s was that they just drilled a bigger hole in a 9mm barrel. Thus they had all the wear/tear and snappy recoil problems. This pistol should also have a beefier slide, just like the HK vp40, which is a very comfortable to shoot 40.
The 40 is dead. Nobody is making guns for it anymore. Enter the gen 5 glock 22 and 23. Oh and the MOS versions of both. That’s 4 new 40 cal guns for Glock.
For duty, I'll take a .40 any day over 9mm. Don't get me wrong. I'm not a 9mm hater and in fact own two custom 9mm pistols. But for a primary duty weapon, the .40 cal beats the 9mm in almost every ballistic test that counts for self protection. But, to each their own. Carry what you want.
I have a Gen 5 23 and the slide is thicker and 3 oz heavier than the previous generations, therefore a little bit softer shooting, but will not fit in the Kydex holster for my Gen 4. I do know that the Gen5 22 has a longer recoil spring than the Gen4, so I would imagine that would also apply to the 23. Update: I have now purchased a Gen 5 22 to join the 23 and it is just as enjoyable to shoot. Glock has really hit the sweet spot with these two, and thanks to them for offering them in a MOS version. Vedder has an array of holsters specifically for the Gen 5 22 and 23.

@@VenomousKills A Gen 5 Glock 22 is my first .40 handgun and I love it. It recoils less than my Gen 4 Glock 21 and I shoot it more accurately than my 17 and 21 for some reason. I don’t know why I’ve slept on .40 for so long, it’s a great cartridge, and might be my new favorite in semi autos.
I'm hoping to sell/trade my G22 G4 for the new G5 G22 MOS in the near future. My G4 is fantastic with the upgrades, but I really want the MOS version. Solid video.
I have a 17 and 22 gen5 and i switched the full assembled slides they fit and operate across frames, what I noticed is the G22 has a bigger gap between the slide and the frame and the slide of the G22 is milled curved in the frame side and the G17 is straight and flat.
The g21 & g20 gen 4 & previous will pull off instead of sliding forward when going to field strip..slide is a tad chunky on the gen 5 .40 so it breaks down like the 21 & 20..nothing wrong with the gun at all.
It may have lost popularity with law enforcement, but that is the bean counters, most officers prefer the .40 s&w! And many officers were/are very upset and angry that they were forced to switch to the 9mm, which most do not like and many hate!

I much as I like Glocks and own several they just don't fit my hand. After 50 rounds I start to feel it. The Springfield XD Mod2 and the VP9sk just seem to fit my hand like a glove. The HKVP9sk is the most comfortable gun I've ever shot. I wish HK would make the VP9sk in .40/.357 sig. I still would never sell my RTF2 G22 with Gills.
Try to find yourself a used FNS 40C or a S&W 40SC subcompact. U will enjoy the grip and feel on both of those just like u do on the HK. I have all of them and like them much better then my Glocks. Glocks are convenient because they are king when it comes to aftermarket parts but they are not the only good gun on the market and definitely not the the best grip on the market by no means.
.40 s&w is the ideal cartridge caliber, but 180gr was always too heavy for the .40 s&w, great for 10mm auto though! Between 135gr minimum and 165gr maximum parameters with 155gr/150gr being the perfect bullet weight!
If you actually read the specs on .40 you’d find that the FBI specification was met and designed around the 180 grain projectile. It’s the best grain weight for the load in all the testing and reading I’ve seen and done.
@@Vinylguy8876 totally disagree, 180gr was kept because the 10mm was 180gr, so when the cut down the brass cade to make the .40 s&w they forgot to cut the bullet weight, 155gr/150gr is ideal

Is there any issue with the Gen 5 mags working on previous generation guns? For example, if I had a 40-cal pistol carbine which used Glock mags, would the new Gen 5 mags have issues working in that gun (probably based on previous-gen Glocks)?
Does this gun take night sights for the 22 gen 4 or so you need to use night sights for the 21 slide I am asking cause I own this and the slide just seems more beefy a gen 3 I ahot with
Those plastic sights suck. When I bought my updated Gen 5.5 19 and 23 MOS, I made sure they had the metal Ameriglo night sights on them. Still don’t understand why Glock puts plastic sights on. Nice carry guns otherwise.
Are the 40 S&W slides slightly thicker then the 9mm equivalents? I’ve heard the frames are identical but the slides are slightly thicker on the Gen 5’s.
In this day and age, .40 caliber gets a lot of bad press but, as far as I am concerned, I can think of a lot worse things than 15 rounds of .40 at the ready.

I’m not implying you’re one of those people because you have a channel to run and also Glocks are pretty good functionally wise and that’s it.
How is the Glock so light compared to other polymer framed pistols? Full size XD's, P320's, M&P's are all 4 or 5 ounces heavier than Glocks. How is Glock making them so comparably light or why do these companies make them so much heavier?
The things John Wayne mentioned plus no embedded steel chassis. There are rails on the steel locking block at the front - then polymer until the embedded rails at the back.

All of the GEN 5 .40 caliber slides are thicker than the 9 mm counterparts...
They needed that. As a Glock armorer for many years with my department, I saw numerous Glock 22s and 23s suffer premature frame stretching and physically wear out after only a few thousand rounds. Plus lot of other strength related issues, like pin breakage, locking block cracking, etc.
It’s annoying can’t find eney holster for it , won’t fit the g17 holster
@@docholliday4441 you can heat a kydex g17 holster with a hot blow dryer or over the stove and get it warm enough where it gets a little soft and slide the G22 in. It will take the shape of the 22 and work. I’ve done this with 3 holsters for my gen 5 22. Also We the People holsters fit without modification
The 23 is noticeably softer shooting in Gen 5 than the previous Gens.
I just wish I could find an MOS compatible holster for it.
@@pewpewTN We the people holsters are compatible with the gen 5 .40s
I’m using an LAS Concealment Ronin L holster for my G22 gen 5 . It fit but was a little snug so I heated it and slid the gun in and now it’s perfect
The gen 5 G22 slide is thicker than the other G22’s
So funny. The character Hank on "Breaking Bad" said exactly the same thing in his first scene in the pilot episode.
Update:
I have now purchased a Gen 5 22 to join the 23 and it is just as enjoyable to shoot. Glock has really hit the sweet spot with these two, and thanks to them for offering them in a MOS version.
Vedder has an array of holsters specifically for the Gen 5 22 and 23.
Holster compatibility issues seems to be only major issue with these new guns
Also has a thicker recoil spring ring to keep from cracking. That other one was so small compared to other it scared me
yep snagged me a vedder holster for my G23 gen 5 the new 40s shoot so smooth and soft vs other gens, im debating on adding a 22 gen 5 to go with my gen 5 g23, the new beefed up gen 5 40s is what brought me back to the 40caliber and it was worth it, 40 cal back in the mix with all my 9s and carry rotation.
Just bought one last week! Awesome ergonomics and much better trigger thusly helping with that recoil readiness.
If you like the. 357, .45 try the .40. If you are .38 special guy go with a 9mm. I like both but .40 for business.
I'm hoping to sell/trade my G22 G4 for the new G5 G22 MOS in the near future. My G4 is fantastic with the upgrades, but I really want the MOS version. Solid video.
Just keep the G4 for keeps sake and then buy the G5 as well. Have both, u never know when u might have to pass one down to a sibling.
I just bought this and love it! Better then my m&p 40 2.0
Love the glock 22!!
Love the .40 s&w!!!!
It may have lost popularity with law enforcement, but that is the bean counters, most officers prefer the .40 s&w! And many officers were/are very upset and angry that they were forced to switch to the 9mm, which most do not like and many hate!
Just because 9mm is cheaper and many officers are not into guns and dont shoot the 40 well.

I love my Gen 5 22!
I still like .40. Been flirting with buying a 22 or a 23 for a while now. Picked up a 22 Gen 5 online yesterday new for $497 otd. It's in transt to my ffl. I'll have to pay $25 to get it transfered. But hell I was seeing Gen 3's for 475-499, and used gen 4's for 380-400 and up. Excited to pick it up, hopefully on Saturday.
Just got a Glock 22 today. Feels great in the hand. Can't wait to shoot it.
I bought a Glock 27 gen 5 and now I'm planning on buying a glock 22 gen 5 for my holster. So now I have a short compact g27 for conceal and g22 for open carry holster. Both are .40
How does the g27 gen 5 shoot? I only shot the gen 3
@@twerkingmidget6230 Honestly, it's hard to aim with it. I attached a TLR-6 red dot laser/flashlight combo with it as well as a +1 extension grip so I now have 10 ammo of .40 in it and have a comfortable nearly full size grip. It's great for personal defense but has a lot of recoil in my opinion
Love the gem 2 look on the front strap
.40 cal master race
Did the Glock Gen 5 40 S&W pistols come out with wider slide.. similar to the 45 Gap slides ?
.40 s&w is the ideal cartridge caliber, but 180gr was always too heavy for the .40 s&w, great for 10mm auto though!
@@ethanmac639 i'm calling bullshit on that. Ideal?!! says who? you?! Everyone says 180 expands better, penetrates better and recoils less.
150-155 Grain 40 Caliber Bullet Has Higher Velocity Which Can Transfer A Large Amount Of Joules Of Energy
180 Grain Is Heavy But Thats Why The 357 SIG Was Invented
125-150 Grain 40 Caliber Would Be A Perfect Parameter
I thought they only made new gen 5 versions for 9mm, but I see that's not the case anymore... Nice shooting!
Thank you. Once they get the 9mms done (the big fan-base) then they start working on the other calibers.
Glocks 44 is .22lr and is gen 5
How bout the .357 Sig version! Coming Soon in Model 32
Yes please
hopefully a model 31 also
That's what I'm waiting for!
I picked up a Gen5 22 a few days ago., I own other 40 pistols, but not a Glock. Mine shoots well it has a bit more snap compared to my 226 or M&P, I'm guessing weight and grip angle... I picked it up for $599. I have a 357 sig barrel for the 226 I'll probably leave it in and just run it as a 357 sig.
To me the 226 in 9mm is more snappy than the G17.
I would love to see you shoot gen 5 23 slide on 45 frame to make a 23x I seen a guy do it on YT but only shot 11 rounds no malfunctions I called Glock and told them to make a 23x after that
LGs has one slightly used for $399. Thought about scooping it up but I already have a gen 5 19 and 23
40 caliber great concealed carry all around cartridge, you got to know what the law is in some states it's called over penetration meaning if you shoot somebody in some states with 45 ACP 10 mm your ass will be in trouble pretty good video Even though I carry Berettas.
My first gun was a Glock 27 gen 3 at 17. I’ve had every gen 5 .40 cal even a MOS 23 gen 5 with a holosun. The recoil is NOT WHAT YOI THINK on the gen 5s. I carry federal LE tactical HST and am VERY accurate at 15-20 yds +. .40 cal or nothing fuck your Springfield hellcat. I hit you with this 27 and you gone be screaming like a cat on 🔥!!

You missed the thicker slide and heavier weight.
.40 when you can, 9mm when you have to.
I’m trying to convince myself why I shouldn’t trade my 19 for the 23, and it’s not going well
Just get a conversion kit. Then you can have the best of both worlds.
well what did you go with? 0_o
I see you got lucky and got the smooth trigger shoe, versus the serrated triggers that most Austrian versions come with. Weird how they determine which trigger shoes they use for what models?
My Gen 5 23 came with the smooth trigger.
@@randolph6511 I too have a smooth trigger shoe on my 19x, but it's just crazy how they determine the change... I heard the US made guns had smooth trigger shoes, but all my Glocks are Austrian made.

Helpful info, thanks
I like the G22 its one of my favorite Glocks
It shots smooth the Glock 22 is one of my favorite pistols too I like to have one but not right now cuz they are high price they're about $600 now
Get the gen4 they're only a few hundred and better than the gen5
CAnt wait
I picked up one of these back in April of this year 2024..he said he payed 800 for his.and they start at around 600..all said and done out the door I paid 742 dollars..now due to the cut slide most likely will throw an optic on ,which will be an additional 2 to 400 dollars and maybe a light..
Waiting for a 23 gen 5 and a Glock 45 version in .40
The cut is also on Gen 4s as well
The only .40 cal handgun ive shot that handles like a 9 mm is My sig P229 enhanced elite, is thick like a tank, but not as reliable as a glock (failures to eject after 150 rounds), i would trade My sig for one of these for sure
The sites are different on it too you only can use Gen 5 sites on it
Are the 40 S&W slides slightly thicker then the 9mm equivalents? I’ve heard the frames are identical but the slides are slightly thicker on the Gen 5’s.
I’ve heard they are... that some holsters may not fit from the older ones
Yes, I have a gen 5 mos 22. It does not fit all Kydex holsters for the gen 4. It does fit some (the ones that have adjustment).
The thing where the bullets go down got out the top of the mag
In this day and age, .40 caliber gets a lot of bad press but, as far as I am concerned, I can think of a lot worse things than 15 rounds of .40 at the ready.
17 With A Plus +2 Extension And One In The Chamber
18 Rounds
Is the locking block similar (small) to the G19/23 Gen 5 or (large) like the G22 Gens 3 and 4?
I'm still waiting for the gen five model 40MOS. I can get an aftermarket .40 barrel for it. Why .40? Because I have a lifetime supply of .40 ammo lol. Why 10mm? For back up when I'm bowhunting for hogs.
@Joe MacLean .40 develops more pressure than .45, so that dosen't make much sense.
Somewhere James Yeager is crying into his soy latte. I'm pig headed. I still think Gen 3's are superior.
i got a 22 gen3 myself
I’ve heard the slides are slightly thicker and won’t fit in gen 4 holsters, true?
You didn’t mention why less recoil. Heavier slide and longer spring.
What an amazing pistol
I just purchased this glock 22 gen 5, through blue label with taxes at $450 dollars, i signed up for a 2year membership at gssf, i advise anyone to sign up it has to be 2 years for $60.
Since the slide is thicker might as well just get a glock 20 10mm. Nice pistol but prefer the gen 4 size.
What about the slide dimensions (width) compared to the earlier Gens?
I own a Glock 22 gen4. Absolutely a Great Gun. I Don't feel the need to Ever do so-call"upgrade" to a gen5.. why?
I have a G17 Gen5 if I only buy a G22 Gen5 Slide will it work on my G17 Gen5 frame still then?
My favorite Glock
So can we shoot lead bullets out of this barrel?
It still uses the polygonal rifling as part of its structure so the limitations are similar.
Can’t believe you didn’t mention Gen 5 is heavier with thicker slide. Holsters probably won’t work. Better off with a Gen 4
Can a Gen 3 or 4 357 Sig barrel be used in this?
$800!! Oh no no no no good sir. I just recently purchased a police trade in G22 Gen 4 for $340. This is one of the reasons why I think Glock marketing has too much of a spell on people. I’m not implying you’re one of those people because you have a channel to run and also Glocks are pretty good functionally wise and that’s it.
Would you say this is better than the Glock 20 10mm gen 4 more powerful?
Is the recoil lighter then the gen3
The recoil differences across the generations of the same model are pretty much not noticable.
@@HammerStriker the gen3 is very noticeable. I actually own one. Had it for over ten years, and thinking about trading it
That wear from what I read is normal n good they say. Idk on th barrel there
Huge!! What’s the weight on the new one.
I thought they would have beefed it up a bit.
How is the Glock so light compared to other polymer framed pistols? Full size XD's, P320's, M&P's are all 4 or 5 ounces heavier than Glocks. How is Glock making them so comparably light or why do these companies make them so much heavier?
Plastic magazines. Plastic sights. Plastic guide rods.
The things John Wayne mentioned plus no embedded steel chassis. There are rails on the steel locking block at the front - then polymer until the embedded rails at the back.

Safariland P320 Fits The GLOCK 22 Gen 5 With A Forward Push After Holstering To Engage
Never tried the Gen 5 trigger. I owned a 17 Gen 3. The Glock is a nice gun and usually what I recommend for someone looking to buy a pistol for home defense and range use. It’s far from “perfection” but it’s reliable and reasonably affordable and accessories are plentiful. That trigger to me reminds me of a kids squirt gun that first mushy stage and has that little bit of creep after it’s at the wall before the break. Good not great pistol with lots of competition, some are arguably better for the money.
Cool,22
Will this fit in a gen 4 holster
Kydex, no.
In a G21 gen4 ; )
