    That's so interesting how you used the 35mm film with this camera, I loved how those photos came out.

      A lot of cameras do make backs where you can do this with 35mm or 120 film to get panoramic type shots. A lot of large format cameras can shoot 120 film in a special back to get 120 panoramic images.

      Firstly, these Kodaks are practically antique so they're not even that cheap. Secondly the image is frankly quite shit, look at the softness and the lack of contrast. If you factor in the cost of buying and developing medium format it's not a sustainable process. 5$ thrift store 35mm point and shoots are the way to go for cheap film photography. Check yourself.

      the sunny 16 rule. basically the camer is stuck on i think f11 and you can use iso 40film to match the 1/40 second shutter speed. it is reccomended to use 100 speed flash i read somewhere but i havent had a chance to test that.
      make sure to keep the camera VERY still when taking the picture, remember sunny 16

    Hi! I got a Brownie camera 2 days ago and your video really helped me, so thank you :)
    But i have some questions... Which iso do you use for the portra 120?
    And do you have to open and close manually the shutter on this camera? Because i have to...

    • @AwesomeCameras
      @AwesomeCameras  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Lulu Marie I used Portra 160, and there is another grey button opposite the Sutter button that will switch your camera in and out of bulb mode, try lifting or pressing that to see if it goes back to normal shutter operation.

  • @Sreybk
    @Sreybk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I ordered some Portra 120 400 and some black and white 120 that is also ISO 400 for my Brownie Hawkeye Flash. I probably should have checked that the aperture is fixed at F15 and the shutter at 1/40. I am going to overcook these shots unless I shoot in lower light conditions. I have no lens filters. How would you approach this aside from trying to send the film back to swap it? This camera was my dad's and has not been shot since the late 70s.

    • @AwesomeCameras
      @AwesomeCameras  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd say shoot a roll and see how it comes out... Maybe try on a cloudy day. But remember that film is much more forgiving than the average digital sensor, so overexposing by 2 stops might not be that big of a deal, and you may actually prefer the results...

    • @Sreybk
      @Sreybk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AwesomeCameras What I should have done was a bit more research on the shutter speed and aperture and Sunny 16-ed it from there. Ideally, Cinestill 50D would probably be the call. I'll probably just shoot it in lower light conditions. I have read where somebody shot some 120 400 and said it looked fine.

    I have a Brownie Hawkeye that I just cleaned for the first time since I got it. I used various TH-cam videos and websites to help along the way. Even though it’s a basic design, it can be a bit daunting to a first timer. I can successfully say I was able to put it back together after taking time to clean off all the surface rust. My question to you is after putting it back together I’m having issues with my shutter sticking. It will work 3-4 times then just stick. Sometimes the spring comes loose other times I have to back out the screws a little. Did I mess it up? Can I salvage it?

      It's hard to say without seeing the camera in person... But these cameras are still cheap enough where you could probably find another one cheaper that trying to deal with repairs

    It's a long shot that you'll reply but I just recently unearthed a kodak brownie fiesta in my attic which belonged to my grandfather and was wondering if this process of using 35mm/120mm film would work in a brownie fiesta too? It originally uses 127 film. Thanks!

      @AwesomeCameras  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Isabelle Tee 127 film is quite a bit different. You may be able to rig up some 35mm film into it...

      Some people cut down 120 and fit it to a 127 spool and sell it.

    Totally cool with 35mm. Never thought of that. How did you scan your sprockets?

    • @AwesomeCameras
      @AwesomeCameras  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Steve Brokaw I had them scanned at Dexter's Camera, but I've done it on my flatbed before, you just have to manually select the area you want to scan, (if your scanners software has this option)

    Ok so I watched this video and I’m curious before I go shooting a roll of 120 film (I’ve never shot 120 before) when rolling up the film and unloading it will the roll be ok in light or should I do it in the dark like the 35mm rolls?

    • @AwesomeCameras
      @AwesomeCameras  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely do it in the dark

    • @pilsplease7561
      @pilsplease7561 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it depends on the camera, my mamiya winds all the film from one spool onto another spool thus you end up with a roll ready to take out in daylight and take to get developed.

    how did you get the roll film for the second half of the video still with the black holes in it

    • @AwesomeCameras
      @AwesomeCameras  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sunshine it was loaded with 35mm film instead of 120

    How do you rewind the 120 film back on the old spool?

    After each shot with the 35mm film how far did you advance the film?

    • @AwesomeCameras
      @AwesomeCameras  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you kinda have to guess and wing it. I wound mine too far to be safe and had huge gaps between frames. next time I will try to keep them closer together. and I imagine overlapping the edges of the frames could have a cool look to it

    I've been shooting 120 film in the Brownie without trimming the 120 reel.

    Ok, going to do it. I have a Hawkeye but need a cleaner model. I have heard of modifying spools to use 120 film in these. Liked comment about why Kodak made 126 film. I still have first photos I took with my first camera. Brownie Hawkeye. 1958. Parents gave it to me for Christmas. I was 10 years old.

      It's just 110, not 110mm. Same with 120; it's not 120mm, it's just 120. Cheers!

      @AwesomeCameras  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +AnimeDad420 I don't remember exactly, but I think it was only around 9 or 10. I ended up finding the film a little too far and had big gaps between the frames

    How does it meter? Is it a set aperture and shutter speed?

    • @AwesomeCameras
      @AwesomeCameras  ปีที่แล้ว

      It has a set shutter speed and aperture, so you kinda have to just meter the light to make sure it works with your set exposure range. If I recall, we just did the math beforehand and figured we'd be good to shoot anything in open daylight.
