Interesting info. Thank you! I have a T140V that has been sitting for about 25 years now and I have been thinking about getting it going again. From what I gather here you would suggest that I pull the motor and have it gone through, correct? Will it hurt to have it sit more years if nothing is done? What would be the best way to store my ride for another few years down the road before getting it out to ride again?

The sludge tube in a Triumph engine is an effective way of trapping particulates from causing premature wear to the big-end journals and rod bearings, but as time passes, the contents of the sludge trap solidify and limit the flow of oil through the journals. Engines with unknown history should be approached with caution, especially if they have stood idle for many years. If you plan to store it for another extended period of time, I would suggest squirting some oil down the spark plug holes to prevent the piston rings from rusting to the cylinder bores. In any event, a Triumph engine that has been sitting for many years will likely leak oil as the oil seals and gaskets dry out over time.

@@thebonnevilleshop2314 Since my bike is an OIF I don't know how much oil is in the crankcase and thusly do not know how much might be dried up. The bike has always been stored indoors in my shop and was ridden about 12 years ago for a very short period of time. Any tips for bringing it out of hibernation?
