- The famous Russian song from a concert in Moscow. Free download of the whole concert is here: www.angelfire.com/nf/amenemhat...
The video and audio are not perfectly synchronised, though the separate clips work fine. I couldn't make it any better. -
My father used to listen to this so loudly when I was young - I had to go downstairs and ask him to turn it down. He became ill soon after, for a long time, and died last week. This was one of his favourite pieces. A kind, gentle man who made everyone laugh. I miss him hugely. I listen to this and think of all the things I wish I'd said to him when I was young and he was well. May everyone listening to this beautiful piece be happy and tell your loved ones how much you love them. They are all we have.
I'm sorry for your loss my brother
My mother loved this song, especially as sung by Nicholai Gedda. She would get quite emotional listening to it because it reminded her of her parents’ longing for their homeland, Ukraine. (They had immigrated to Canada.) And of course because Mr. Gedda sings it so beautifully! She passed away three years ago and I do miss her.
Dear George, I am sorry you lost your Dad. I too lost mine and my mother before him. I was born in Russia and listened to this song many times when my grandmother played it on her classical guitar. So when I hear it I remember the years of my childhood and my youth and that exactly what this song is about. About passing time, old memories of home where everybody is gone and him being in the winter of his life missing the the youth and people who are gone. There is a beautiful version I love with Russian and English words written by the singer. He is not Russian nor American but sings it beautifully in both languages on his trip in Russia. th-cam.com/video/iLPer_0m1zk/w-d-xo.html
The greatest tenor of our lives!!!
Nádherny,precíteny hlas.Bravo.❤💯👍
Impressive how Zlatopolsky's voice overpowers the whole choir and even other basses next to him.
The choir's conductor and music director was a "patriarch" of Russian choral art Klavdy Ptitsa (1911-1983), a professor of choral conducting at the Moscow Conservatory.
Wunderschön! Beeindruckend schöne Bässe!
One of the most perfect techniques ever to grace the stage, a textbook example of everything that every student should do when singing
Nádherné. Tisíc krát ďakujem za túto nádhernú pieseň, ktorú som nepočula už veľa rokov.
Thank you very much, Emilia.
Artristry magnificent, incredibly beautiful singing. R.I.P.

what a BASS‼️
Mikhail Zlatopolsky
Incredible Nicolai Gedda. He created a class on his own. He simply has no competition in selected pieces.
Labai gražu.Lietuva.
Just listen to those contra-basses, especially at the beginning. WOWZY. Such a beautiful song, so well done.
thats Mikhail Zlatopolsky for you. He had a godly voice.
No other oktavist quite like zlatopolsky..
Effortlessly rumbling in the contra octave
Krasno...bravo..
A beautiful song, beautifully sung. Thanks for posting.
I grew up with this song arranged by A.V. Sveshnikov, but this is the first time I've heard Gedda singing it. I am so moved. Thank you for posting this. The Sveshnikov arrangement is for a large choir and tenor soloist, so the feel is more dramatic, but this is simple and beautifully sung.
Wonderful! I get goose bumps, thank you for this gem!
Rest in Peace Great Singer.
so beautiful.

Note his crisp consonants and clear elocuction. That glorious voice sits on the teeth, the lips and the tip of the tongue.

Thank you for putting this on. The singers are great, especially Nicolai Gedda, who has to be the best tenor for this role.
Listen to Ivan Rebroff's version. Even better.
@@hiyadroogs Is he a tenor?
@@martinceder9301 He was a natural bass, but could also sing in the soprano range using falsetto
I first bought this on a 45rpm in the sixties and loved it ever since
@SuperLuckydream
Thank you for watching and for your kind comment, Tamara.
😍😍😍❤❤❤❤❤👏👏👏👏👏
@Glenmed I first heard this in concert by the original Don Cassock Choir, conducted by Sergei Jarroff. Fantastic performance, with 16 magnificent voices harmonizing beautifully and sounding like 60! That was in 1952 at Orchestra Hall in Chicago. An unforgettable experience, right behind seeing Jussi Bjoerling's last Concert appearance in Chicago at Orchesta Hall.
PRECIOSA
prekrasna pieseň a prekrasny hlas spevaka.....
@minnie888444
Thank you, Minnie, for your nice comment.
Prekrásne
One of the most beautiful and most favorite Russian songs. And Gedda's renditions seem to be the best. Bravo!
P.S. Our choir has "Vecherni zvon" in its repertoire too, and, by the way, our conductor is a former student of prof. K.Ptitsa-the chief conductor and music director of the choir singing in this video.
Gyönyörű!🌻
Anyway, good job! You have made a refined choice on posting "Evening bells".Thanks.
A Great swede singing in Russia.
takvu sam je shvatio... no, sad...nijanse primječujem
zahvalan... pozdrave šaljem - sretna vam nova godina
great interpretation of a great song. Not only the tenor part is sung very nice, the basses behind imitating the bells are amazing (singing all the way down to As- that's trully impressive). Russian chant is my favourite and by far the most beautiful music of all. I never get tired of listening of it.
thank you for posting.
Would you know by any chance the name of the choir in the back?
Caro Amico - NICOLAI - !!! ... norma1944
Zlatopolsky in a bass section = bass on steroids
Is there anyone who might have the sheet music for this piece of music? I am in need of it for a very special happening and need it very soon. I am a tenor as well. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you, Tobobba. Was that Gustaf Wasa that you saw?
Hi Tobboba, may I ask when was that. It was not so long ago, it seems.
Please, link to Carmen 1959 with Victoria is missing
Hi, I fixed the link.
Thank the Irish poet who wrote it?
Could be. But the style and feel of the actual poem is definitely an Irish poet. I forgot his name, but he was like a literal rock star of his time. Plus I read they say it's dubious as to who wrote it. So my gut goes to the Irishman. All Irish poets wrote like that years ago. Russians weren't too literal back then.
Daniel Kleinmeier Ivan Kozlov in fact translated the poem of Thomas Moore, so at least states Wikipedia. But having in mind that it was the time of Pushkin, Lermontov, Gogol, Krylov and others it's difficult to say that they were not too literal at the time.

Since the murderous invasion of Ukraine,I don't listen to Russian music. This I consider to be a requiem for the innocent victims, thus the exception.
FYI this is Slovenian folk song, trough years "adopted" by russians, fact
