@@ViolentCabbage-ym7ko Not in the proud, “this is also our accomplishment” type of proud, but proud as in “Proud of them for being successful in their endeavors”. Hope one day, you are also proud of your own country. Work hard and don't depend on other countries esp the US. Singapore don't depend on anyone to defend its territory.
The one amazing thing about Filipinos is that you can find them working all over the world. They leave their country to find a better life for their families.
I think it's pitiful. Yeah, it's amazing that the people work hard to support their families in other countries despite the loneliness away from their loved ones but it's so sad that they need to leave their beloved homeland to begin with. If only their country could provide the jobs and proper wages and lessen the gap between the rich and poor for better quality of life then Filipinos wouldn't need to work elsewhere in the first place; sadly, many don't have that option.
Depends on the initiative of the government. If the government focuses on education and Filipinos learn business culture such as investing, starting businesses, and learning how global trade works such as derivatives stock etc..
Agreed. But most Filipinos don't have that mindset. They have the mentality of being "content" of what they have, despite having almost nothing. They are sadly not ambitious people.
The Philippines and Singapore are two very different countries with different histories, economies, and political systems. While it's difficult to predict the future, it's important to note that reaching the development level of another country involves a complex interplay of factors including economic policies, governance, education, infrastructure, and more. The Philippines has made progress in various areas, but predicting whether it will reach the development level of Singapore would involve speculation. It's important for the Philippines to focus on its own unique path to development and progress.
@@tweedy4sg He means the Philippines always had the potential to reach the "First World Country" status, it's a matter of "how?" and "when?". It's full of ironic twists like how the country is filled with people who are fluent or conversational in English yet the country suffers with literacy.

Beyond the various restrictions, the Philippines should instead first address such issues as corruption and poverty before planning to move upwards on the higher economic ladder within the international (economic) system?!
Before you go into Financial Services, BPO, Manufacturing and Agriculture, PH peeps need to learn to dominate filipino time first. Nothing will get done until that is resolved.
the country should countinue the build build project and work on infrastructures that connects the island nation seamlessly. Until then the progress will be limited to the capital. In addition, they should prioritize pedestrians in the capital city and start building more rail lines and bus routes. The traffic is a huge hindrance for it's development. A couple of hours in the road could have done so much already in a workforce. Remote working has been proven to alleviate this however that PEZA rule is again is driving people to get in to roads.
I tend to agree to this "discipline" thingy. Think about the observance of traffic laws where most of the drivers especially in the cities do not follow.

No one from the past leaders of the Philippines except ex-President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. attempted to try to make the Philippines as progressive as Singapore. Why? Because nobody believed that we can. I know it is not a walk in the park because it’s not only about the numbers, the money, economy and resources. The culture and behavior of the people has a very important role in shaping the country to be as progressive as Singapore. Filipinos at the time don’t have that attitude and belief that we can be a progressive country. We always think we are a Third World country and will stay like that forever. Now that at least, our new President believe that we can be a progressive country and he’s trying to do his best to achieve it, please do your share to help the country, if not at least don’t be the hindrance in this goal.
marcos literally destroyed the PH. It is even in Lee Kwan Yew's autobiography. Why the Philippines can never reach Singapore-like economic status: 1) The economic restrictions in the Philippine constitution that prevent foreigners from investing more heavily into its economy, prevent it from stronger economic growth, 2) Bickering between the two chambers of legislation in the Philippines on HOW to change the constitution due to the aforementioned restrictions as it is now a growing issue, 3) Lack of much-needed manufacturing and infrastructure. ... Yes, this SO much was an entertainment-only video.
FYI, Singapore was a 3rd world country before, Philippines was even economically richer and advanced in infrastructure and education back in the day. Philippines was economically richer than Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, and China back in the day, all of which were 3rd world countries. They are just lucky to have an effective govt with less corruption and are not constantly hit with calamities so they were able to rise up dramatically. It's not impossible Philippines can surpass them again if only Filipinos are more united and share a common goal, of course with less corrupt politicians who are effective and unselfish. Ph should be able to move forward and rise up again. Your negative thinking and attitude is part of the problem.
@@fkoff7649 Putting natural calamities aside, still, the Philippines can never achieve Singapore-like status. Again, why? Singapore is a tiny state. And so its ruler, at the time when it was separated from British rule, was a young, future-looking, forward-looking, strongman in the name of Lee Kuan Yew. It was he, his party, his style of governance that - especially with a very small population and geographic area size - had made it possible for complete control, to steer the city-state to what it is now. The Philippines, on the other hand, is comprised of 7,641 islands, w/ each politician wanting a large piece of the power "pie," it's corrupt, w/ a constitution that prevents large foreign investments - forget about the low-grade infrastructure & snail-paced internet, even. When started at an equal footing in the '50s/'60s, eventually LKY thought for his people; Marcos, Sr. thought for himself. Having this mindset of & for corruption, w/ every politician suspicious of the other, the situation prevents for a Singapore-like status. (Even now, the Marcos Clan and the Duterte Clan are fighting each other ... all at the expense of the Filipino people.) ... Yes, the Philippine economy will grow; no doubt there. Tourism, overseas remittances, and the BPO industry will contribute greatly. But those are not what make a country's economy seriously grow with a solid foundation. For one, manufacturing is one industry that does. The manufacturing of, say, cars, textiles, metals, ships, as well as at a very wide scale, is needed for serious growth. Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam have achieved such growth. The Philippines hasn't, really. ... So, "Singapore-like status?" ... For starters, a LOT of political sacrifice will be needed for that to even warner a slight consideration.

4) Being more loyal to their politicians (that we own them money -that came from our tax- ) than their own country, e.g.: DDS, Marcos loyalist, Tulfonatics, Dilawan, or whatever; instead of being practical, they're being emotional; instead of fact checking first, they instantly praise, clap, and believe their idolize politicians and throw 'ad hominem' and 'logical fallacy' to their opposition instead of having a healthy discussing the issues; IDK if Singapore have that, Philippine politics today is too noisy and bipolar; vote buying is an open secret in Philippines, bribery and threats (red-tagging, silencing individual critics and media, and fanatics trolling) 5) Kickbacks

Missing strong egalitarian culture 3. Missing strong desire of self improvement, once I was in a meeting in Cebu, Cebu mayor was very proud to be nominated as the Best #8 Asia city outside China, while Singapore was wondering how to become #1 instead #2 4. Colonial legacy with hundreds elite families with more consideration for family wealth accumulation instead of general population welfare 5. Yes, we may have a more lively culture than Singapore, but eventually, the Philippines needs to understand that dealing with business requires more discipline and rigor than being showy with flashy, glamorous clothes and accessories.
There is some truth to what uou say but that does not mean the country is incapable of reaching its potentials. Southeast Asia needs to stop comparing itself to other developed countries. 20 to 30 years is not possible because there are already significant gaps in the environment for development, industrial support, human resources, resources, and diplomacy. That is a possible hope when Singapore's economy and international status have been stagnant without development for decades. This is the same reason not only in the Philippines but also in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Malaysia stumbled on the brink of becoming a developed country and struggled backwards, and for the same reason, Thailand's hopes of reaching a developed country are also disappearing. Even China's economy has been devastated, with massive unemployment and economic growth rates at record lows. It is a very difficult process for clubs in developed countries, and history proves this. Existing underdeveloped countries can develop to a certain level with cheap labor, foreign investment, and market opening, but as their economies develop, they can no longer grow using the existing economic and industrial methods. The development problem in Southeast Asia is that as GDP rises, the market becomes less attractive to FDI companies, and problems such as high wages, birth rate, urbanization, and natural pollution reach a level where it is difficult to solve. In this case, an engine for new growth is needed, but Malaysia and Thailand are recession-type economies with high wages, tourism, and service industries. To overcome this, we need to create a high value-added industry, but we face the problem of having to grow important product brands. We must no longer subcontract to OEMs or ODMs. The government must take the lead in raising corporate value and image. Exporting foreign labor creates a very bad image for the country and does not help the world passport power rankings at all.

Besides Singapore, Malaysia is the safest country in ASEAN where the chances of tourists being robbed, kidnapped, scammed or ripped off are very low. Anything is possible, the philippines is a bigger country in the area and has plenty of natural resources that are yet waiting to be developed. All it needs is to elect a government that will work for the country and its people, like Singapore.
The size and population of the Philippines alone as well as the history of constant conflicts and rebellion will keep it stuck. Singapore disadvantage is it will always be targeted by a world power due to its strategic location whenever a world war breaks out. Everyone is impacted by world wars but Singapore would be magnified.
Someone said 10 years ago that Mindanao can catch up once it separates from the Republic of the Philippines as an independent country just like what Singapore did in the past that Singapore got separated from Malaysia as an independent state though Malaysian Higher Court reiterated that Singapore have had no legal rights for secession from Malaysia as separated country but Lee Kuan Yew managed to made a history and got Singapore with it's independence and now became a rich nation
whoa, that's interesting. With the current news, most people in Mindanao wants to separate already. There are too many corrupt tagalogs in the politics. the country should countinue the build build project and work on infrastructures that connects the island nation seamlessly. Until then the progress will be limited to the capital. In addition, they should prioritize pedestrians in the capital city and start building more rail lines and bus routes. The traffic is a huge hindrance for it's development.
Nope. Samsung, Panasonic, Toshiba, Texas Instruments, etc., all still have factories here.
@@Spy-hp8ki Nothing is ever impossible with PH with very rich natural resources and brilliant people. We just need to fix the political landscape first to make it more stable and attractive with less to zero corruption. Once again, PH used to be richer than China, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan back in the day, nothing is impossible for the PH to regain its former status.
4) Being more loyal to their politicians (that we own them money -that came from our tax- ) than their own country, e.g.: DDS, Marcos loyalist, Tulfonatics, Dilawan, or whatever; instead of being practical, they're being emotional; instead of fact checking first, they instantly praise, clap, and believe their idolize politicians and throw 'ad hominem' and 'logical fallacy' to their opposition instead of having a healthy discussing the issues; IDK if Singapore have that, Philippine politics today is too noisy and bipolar; vote buying is an open secret in Philippines, bribery and threats (red-tagging, silencing individual critics and media, and fanatics trolling)
5) Kickbacks
Nothing is impossible, however Philippines is 50 years behind due to infrastructure. Singapore started back in 80’s while Philippines was busy with corruption. But I don't want to be like a Singaporean. Why? Simply because they are suffering for the high cost of living. They even belong to the most stressful county to live in. If you don't believe me, try searching for the Asian boss asking Singaporeans regarding their way of living. For me? The better place to live is where you earn more but have lesser expenditures.

Yes, definitely but the question is what year? probably year 2500 on my conservative estimate.
PH economy could be improved unless it relies on US economy too much
It doesn't need to be the next Singapore. Protecting its environment is all that matter. Singapore may have the best buildings to live but that will never compare to living in a simple house in the countryside.
Nothing is impossible but it's like comparing apples and oranges. Singapore is a city state, and is easier to manage and control, plus there is less diversity. If however the Philippines has overcome the three biggest obstacles, it will even SURPASS Singapore.
i just googled. some countries similar in size to the Philippines are: italy, new zealand, japan , UK and iceland. and they are first world. how do u explain? china is a giant and they're leaps and bounds ahead of phillipines. lets say if we compare phhillipines with china. in terms of land size, phillipines would b singapore, and china would be phillipines. why phillipines being so much smaller in size end up being so backwards compared with china? i dont think size plays a large part in determining whether a country will be prosperous or advanced. its very simplistic to think so.
@mattlee23 you missed the part where I mentioned "three obstacles" which are major setback.
It is possible if Phil would change limitations in easing business requirements. Home manufacturing and export. Rehab and beautification of islands. One country one salary policy. Tap those resources and gas could help Philippines to prosper,
While Singapore experience high inflation, debt is balloon and curruption. Plus economy of Singapore start to deteriorating almost negative GDP of 2023. Another factor is Thailand and Malaysia are planning to build land bridge that can lead to intensify economic growth deterioration.
singapre is rich by name but poor In reality. Look at Singapore citizens working in fast food MacDonald and cafeteria while it's migrants are VIP, when Singapore experience struggles of economic means these migrants will run away to save it's wealth to a countries that could be SA safe haven of their wealth.

Gdp Indonesian vs Gdp Singapore and Economy growth Indonesia vs Singapore and Wealth Indonesia vs Singapore , in the 2045 Indonesia will be number 4 economy in the world , data imf and bank world for Indonesia and Singapore 2030 or 2045
May Philippines rise. Good luck from India.
It's a farc to compare Philippines and Singapore solely on the past GDP performance, failed to mention culture and social consideration, here just a few points
1. Lack the sense of urgency
2. Missing strong egalitarian culture
3. Missing strong desire of self improvement, once I was in a meeting in Cebu, Cebu mayor was very proud to be nominated as the Best #8 Asia city outside China, while Singapore was wondering how to become #1 instead #2
4. Colonial legacy with hundreds elite families with more consideration for family wealth accumulation instead of general population welfare
5. Corruption, missing social concenses or shame for taking the easy path
6. Education
7. Infrastructure
8.
Add to that a reactionary culture, like “Bahala Na” (what will be, will be), crab mentality, too little too late, “tsismis” and “Marites” (literally gossipy and wanting to snoop into others’ affairs without realizing their interference can put someone away from his or her goals), and so on.
As FIL AM who live in US for five decades now, I was amazed as to what Philippines has achieved . The country's GDP has risen exponentially although that is not he only measures of the country's success. The current country's leadership has turned the tide around. Though accountability and transparency in governance is apparently not established firmly yet it's going to the right direction . Economy has risen as ev idence by incremental progress in GDP..but various infrastructures t h at could boost the country's economy such Road and bridges connecting islands in Visayas and Mindanao and railroads in Metro Manila as well as proposed international airports i malolos and around the co untry are beacons of pr gress that cannot be denie d and will surely help boost the country's progress and s status around the world. Yes its incomparable with Singapore but Philipp is leaving the status of third world countries. Long before we know Philippines will be one of Asia's pearl.
Your comment just confirming what I mentioned in Point 2, 3 and 4
With regards to GDP improvement all these years, failed to mention inflation and population explosion and still feel content (point 3)
You praised the current leadership, exactly my point 2 and 4, the current president is just looking for self interest (wealth in US)with US backing, Egalitarian never the consideration
Just can't believe at your age, never look at the problems to improve, hope the younger Filipinos will not think like you😮
Philippines could be as huge as singapore in terms of the GDP per capita if only the Philippines Government will revise the current 1987 constitutions. Restriction from foreign investors really is a hindrance in emerging a country's economy. And also, charter change is a must. Centralized government is not helping the economy at all for which it is the reason why taxes can be corrupted. A developing country like the Philippines can be helped by a Federalism form of Government.

You must have missed the fact that Singapore is a dictator with voting run island, while the Philippines is a free democratic voting country.
And there's a big difference in running a government as small as Singapore which is basically the size of the District of Columbia compared to the Philippine archipelago which is almost 2/3 the size of California.

The Philippines need to develop and create infrastructure to connect many islands. We need to STOP building more mega malls and sport colosseum. The culture of instant gratification is hurting the economy of PH. We are skipping steps to properly develop our economy. Singapore did not become rich right away by building Mega Malls and sport venues. singapore developed from agriculture then manufacturing then Service sector.. Those projections are BS. During the 60s and 70s the economists say Malaysia Indonesia and Philippines will be a hi income economic because of larger land, resources and population. I say look at the cohesiveness and diligence of its population. Ultimately it’s the brain that works.

Philippines will be the next Timor Leste 😅
I'm a Filipino and would loved it to be BUT its just not possible. Hate to say this but theres too much corruption and the people are so undisciplined - throwing rubbish everywhere, driving like batshit crazy without regard to authority or other peoples lives, heck can't even tidy their own shit when eating in a fastfood restautrant... the list goes on! so a big LOL

In my fictional world, Malaysia surpasses Singapore in every area because they have Boboiboy and Ejen Ali
I'm Singaporean and I don't understand why Malaysians keep using food to compare with Singapore, self-proclaiming theirs is better and many Singapore famous cuisines originated from Malaysian while Malaysia has so many so many things to be proud of and Singapore does not have those. That's why we Singaporeans love to visit Malaysia so much : Gentings & Cameron when the heat is unbearable; variety of fresh fruits, inexpensive sea food, beautiful beaches; mountain hiking; fishing, canoeing, scuba diving.
If you still want to talk about food, Malaysia has so many pasar malam with endless stalls of street food which has a wide variety and many are creative & a lot we can't in Singapore or have lost preservation.
Still talking about food. In Singapore, if a roast stall has Malaysian cooks, the roast char siew is definitely authentic HK style : with so fat and a little chow tar. If the zichar stall has Malaysian cooks, you can be sure the food has wok hei.
Malaysia a prosperous country with its modern infrastructures and facilities. Besides Singapore, Malaysia is the safest country in ASEAN where the chances of tourists being robbed, kidnapped, scammed or ripped off are very low. The auntie who sells char kueh teow and the Malay taxi driver can communicate with a tourist in simple English.
Malays are taken good care of by the government and the Chinese, as long as they work hard, enjoy a high standard of living compared to those other ASEAN members who do the same job. Hong Kongers are always envious of Singaporeans being able to live in 'big' HDB flats but wait till they see the two-storey terrace house owned a pasar malam wonton street hawker.
Singapore hospital should give Malaysian doctors, nurses, pharmacists and medical technicians language allowances because they can speak not only English & Chinese but also Malay and at least two dialects.

The Philippines should fix their agriculture and produce most of their goods instead. Dont focus too much on infrastructure like malls, skyscrapers and metro rails. Controling inflation and lowering the cost of living for citizens is important.
Overseas Filipino Worker / OFW and BPO/ Outsourcing is not sustainable in the long term because it doesnt create enough jobs for the larger population and low skill jobs can be replaced by technology/ robots.
The government should focus on investing in higher quality education in technology, science and mathematics, Research and Development(R&D) in creating high technology companies for global exports.

And also the Philippines president is allowing VinFast , an electric car company to export their electric scooters and electric cars like the VF3, VF e34, VF5, VF6 and VF7 to the country for Filipinos to enjoy.😊
Philippines is an archipelago with three regions. By land size, Philippines is bigger than Singapore. Peoples are very diverse as well speaking different dialects. This is the main reason why it’s difficult to manage and why it’s difficult to achieve a first world economy status.
This is a lesson to Filipinos out there, 30 years from previous government is a waste! People must unite as one!
The current administration doesn't look promising lmao, it just lead the country to be more divided despite it's platforms to "unite the people or unity"
It is possible that the Philippines can catch up with Singapore as long as there is no corruption. The Philippines was the second richest country in Asia back then until massive corruption striked.
Here in Mindanao, if you're found guilty in corruption then the next day you're dead. If we somehow managed to separate from Luzon and Visayas then Mindanao will have a lot of catching up to do. With its multiculturalism, multi-problems will also arise. If somehow, hypothetically speaking, Mindanao government will be able to manage its multiculturalism and leverage it for its growth then it may become rich. However, it will also paved way for the NPAs here to arise and destroy the peace we have fought for decades
Small land area country are richer compared to nations also Political Stability and Common Goal for everyone in the country is up to the country to become richer and stable
Can PH become the next Singapore. Not in a hundred years or never.
