- WELLP I DID IT AGAIN!!! I cut my own hair!!
My hair was due for a trim and I was DYING for a change so I decided (GASP) to give myself CURTAIN BANGS!! As an, um, COMPLETE amateur, I did what I could thanks to Manes by Mell’s genius tutorials and I’m showing you every single bit of it!! Like, subscribe, and let me know what you think!

If done a DIY cut before but it was just me cutting my ends.😁
Yes I did a DIY cut twice - first time as you did now the Mells' pigtails cut. Wasn't so happy with the results but it turned out better than from a hairdresser 🤣 It felt a bit heavy on the top and then I realised that 1. The positioning of pigtails and 2. What direction you're pulling them to before cutting makes a difference. So I decided to do it a bit differently the next time.
However the next time I did the front part with that overdirecting thing (I didn't want any bangs) but for the rest of my head I used a combination of techniques, as seen at @CurlsbyShirlz and @Sanja Carica Karasman. They both used kinda the same technique as in 90 degree angle. Now THAT one took a while to cut (close to one hour) but I got the BEST HAIR EVER! And I'm gonna do that again in couple of weeks when I'm due for another haircut.

@@TheFitCurls, hi. Do you still do this cut? I’m wondering how to do it so that the bottom back is slightly rounded but still heavy and with layers on the sides of the head around ear level. This looks great on you. Do you find it to be as good as a professional cut?

Hi! I also watch Mel's Channel and I have done the pigtail cut a couple of times and it turned out good. I'm waiting for it to get a little bit longer - I actually want my style exactly like yours is now - it turned out really really good by the way! It looks awesome, exactly how I want mine to look once it grows out some more! 😊

Good for you! I've often been tempted to do this, but didn't have the courage. I really feel I'd get a lot more wave/curl if I had more layers but for some reason I never seem to get them cut that way. Your hair looks beautiful!
Thank you!! I didn’t have the courage until a few months into quarantine when I became a triangle head again 😭 next time you go in for a cut, ask for round layers and added volume at the crown!

I love it! I was just thinking my hair looks way too square at the bottom. I might take a smidge off in this manner but I think I know now know what to say to my hairdresser next time I go. 😊

I cut my bangs (which are already cut like what you did to yours) and texturize all the time, but I’ve never cut the overall length. I love this video, thanks! I’m going to try the whole thing, but I need more length first.

Love your results! Funny thing, I went to my hairdresser a few weeks ago and asked for exactly what you did on your own ( fringe bangs, round layers). I got such a choppy uneven mess of a cut. My hair kind of looks like a mullet. I may just try this and see if it helps.

I've been wanting to do this haircut on myself and I almost did it but I got scared cause as I was brushing my ponytails they got so loose and I thought I was going to be a flop
That’s totally fair! Better to be safe than sorry, right?? I find using regular hair ties and going quite tight with them gives me the most security and the best results.

Trust me, I’m still always a bit nervous when I go to cut my own hair! But really studying the tutorials in advance helps!

I don’t understand why you cut when wet? Curls are so finicky and need to be cut in the inside of the curl that I don’t understand why you wouldn’t cut while dry?
Pigtails are braided. Those are 'dog ears', jus sayin'.

The Pigtails Haircut is what the creator - Manes by Mell - named this cut. And where I came from and where I live now, those are still called pigtails too! Everyone has different terms for hairstyles so we might as well embrace the regional differences :)
