    Touching it, no matter how long you had it dry, WILL dull the head, almost instantly. Us nerds on a Facebook Micronauts board found out: --Let it dry one week. --Coat it in Pledge Future Shine. ...all other coatings and such I've tried dull it.

      You can apply future floor few hours after it dried with a soft brush and leave it for a week u touched.

      Some say *wait a few hours* before coating, other say wait *72 hours.* There is so much conflicting information. I personally tried Future and I can't say it worked.
      If you are still interested in the subject, here's a Russian dude who tested 8 different clear coats: th-cam.com/video/HvCLDBADzH8/w-d-xo.html
      (He then followed that video up with Future shine).

    By the way as a side note. These Micronauts were made to fit into Transformers. The gun that is transformed from Magetron when in the third I guess transformable stage it has a seat with a place for someone holding a firing gun and a part there that would fit into the Micronaut figures back. It looks kick ass. But Takara created both.

    Great finding indeed! I confess I dislike painting with brushes and sprays, as they are quite messy and they require time and care after usage. Pens / markers definitely work best for me, and this Molotow Liquid Chrome marker seems to be the best solution so far for chroming action figures parts. I have also been trying to use black markers to restore figures, but so far I haven't been able to come up with a solution. I am afraid that all DVD-specific markers I have tried, which would seem ideal to coat plastic, end up looking sort of purplish on plastic. :(

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Daniel Luque Markers are not a good idea. They bleed into he plastic over time and will change colour.

    • @MyNameGoesRightHere
      @MyNameGoesRightHere 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am afraid I learned that the hard way, hahahahah... Fortunately I tried with a few quite damaged and cheap figures, so no real harm done. Still, I am hopeful that one day someone will think of how to paint figures with something clean that applies as a marker. That would make fixing and even customizing soooo much easier.

    Been experimenting with these myself. Seems like a non-aerosol clear coat doesn't destroy the finish, so that's a way to protect it. It does dull it, but not terribly. Might be a good approach to chroming and protecting something meant for handling.

    I'm VERY excited about these pens! I ordered the 1 and 4mm from Amazon immediately after watching this video! They aren't the easiest to find in the States either, because they are constantly listed as being available, but are usually marked: CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK. I managed to find them though for around $9 for the 1mm and $15 for the 4mm. I will be using them on a few of my Micronauts figures (Time Traveller and Biotron's head) right away. I'm dying to try them out on an old R2D2 figure head also! Have you tried them on one of those yet, Dave? Do they leave streaks? They don't appear to in your video. I think I will test mine out on one of the Microtron head visors I have lying around. Thanks so much for recommending these, and showing us how to go about things. As always, you are an inspiration! You have the BEST toy fix it guides available online!

    I plan on using the molotow chrome pen to restore the chrome on my G1 Optimus Prime, but the questions I have is:
    Can I use any type of clear coat without dulling the molotow chrome?
    If I can use clear coats how long should I let the chrome paint dry before applying the clear coat?
    Where can I buy the best clear coats in the UK?

      Toy Polloi To clarify, not lacquer, an acrylic brush-on. Like you'd get from Army Painter or Humbrol. They are very gentle on things that other sealers ruin - especially the one fron Army Painter. As for the spray, I was referring to an artist's _acrylic_ based spray sealer. :)

    I'm confused, haven't these pens been around for about 30 odd years? or are they different, i had them when i was a kid, they came in gold too, cheap enough too , about 50p or so. you'd push the nip to get the paint flowing and it was strikingly shiny.

      Toy Polloi thanks for the reply, it was kinda driving me batty. Keep up the good work, I enjoy the memories.

    You really need to do this with an airbrush. You will get much better consistency and no streaks like you do from rubbing it on with the pens. Also you should clearcoat with either Alclad clear or Future. The reduction of the luster is pretty negligible and you can handle it perfectly without dulling the chrome with oils and fingerprints.

    The actual final finish is pretty fragile though...

      It is as I mention in the video. But fine for display if you don't touch it too much.
