Kittens climbing the Pythia's trees | Greece | Episode 10

An early morning start by visiting Delphi (Pytho), the ancient sacred precinct and the seat of Pythia, the Oracle of Delphi. People would have come from all over the world to meet her, and she is said to be one of the most powerful women of the ancient times. Having played Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the place had much more meaning than had I never heard of the Pythia before visiting the UNESCO site. I can imagine the place alive, and the Oracle working and living at the Temple of Apollo. The site has such spectacular views over the mountains that it almost feels holy still.
And then - it’s time to head to Athens! I elect to drive there, though I have to be careful not to go to the emission restricted areas. During the drive towards the capital, I happen to go through an area where all the forests are burned. There have been loads of wild fires in the country this year, and it’s eery to see the results in person. I have never witnessed such before.
Finally I reach the city, which feels like another big milestone on this journey. It’s hard to find a parking place, but eventually I manage and leave the car behind a little nervously, still remembering vividly what happened in Thessaloniki.
In Athens I visit a ton of ancient sites and museums, as they are free for an EU-citizen under 25 years old. My absolute favourite is, of course, the ancient Agora. If I could visit one place and time in history, it would have been the Agora of Athens during Socrates.
The Parthenon is so full of tourists that it isn’t fun up there, and I don’t take any good videos.
From Athens I head west to the Peloponnese region. I pass the Corinth Canal and enjoy perhaps the most breathtaking views of my entire journey. I visit an ancient theatre with the best acoustics of them all, a beach (finally!), and struggle to find a wild camp near Náfplio. But the one I find is beautiful, though risky, being private olive farm land. Good night!
