Vijay is a prime example of a shaft plane approach and release. His desire to extend his right arm toward the target in the follow through causes his right palm to completely lose contact with the left thumb, giving him one of the more bizarre looking releases among great ball strikers.

Watching Vijay hit balls is a trip. He is always using some sort of gadget. Usually has an umbrella stuck it the ground in his line

I like how you make a connection at 5:41 that his right hand coming off the club allows for his high finish. I'd never thought of that particular action/reaction before, but it makes sense, which brings me to my next point; at 2:15 you said he does some things "you wouldn't want to teach." I disagree. I think the athletic ability to do these "things" separates club champions from Masters champions. If a golfer can do them, these "things" should be taught and encouraged (including his Hogan move from back to downswing). I think he has one of the most fluid swings of all time, which is why I'm surprised you didn't talk about his rhythm and tempo. Overall I like your analysis though, and knew I would from the opening seconds when you said Vijay has a "cool swing." I couldn't agree more.

Hey Wayne, would you recommend that someone who tends to come out of posture copy Vijay's downswing & release pattern? I've worked for years trying to keep my head on the starting line, but I don't think my back/hip limitations will ever allow that; consequently, my arms, as you put it "get out and come in high".
Thanks again for an incredibly insightful video.

Hey wayne, if you have the issue of the head moving back and the body moving under you, but have the hands coming in high, how do you fix it? Any drills to keep the head over the ball and the body back so that the club can come back in on plane?

Vijay is not the most media friendly (for valid reasons) or talkative of golfers, but I'd love to hear his thoughts on the golf swing and his approach/swing thoughts and things he's tinkered with over the years and how they've worked out (or not) for him.

haha, I love it when guys like this say things like this about a professionals swing. Hes a professional buddy, how many PGA championships have you won? I dont think hes worried about bending too much at the waist.

@sandersuperfollador the man has played in 8 majors and has more playing ability and knowledge of the game then a lot of teaching pros, he's been on the top 100 teachers list numerous times, so if you think he's another Johnny Miller, you are as wrong as wrong can get, in fact I'm willing to bet you are a sad, soggy golfer with no real game, you go away
