Finally, I'm waiting all weekend for you guys!! I thought you’d forgotten about us 😅! You’re the best podcast discussing Silo here. I’m so glad you guys are back together here. I’m also happy you enjoyed this episode, but I had very different feelings about it. I felt really frustrated after watching it. It felt like we spent 50 minutes going in circles. I can’t believe Episode 7 ended with someone attacking Solo, and we only found out who it was at the end of Episode 8! What the hell was that?! Maybe it’s just my ‘book brain’ not expecting this, since in the book, the time between the attack and finding out who did it is literally just a couple of sentences. But in the show, it felt like torture to watch Juliette for just a few seconds, only to be switched back to Silo 18, where the events felt like they went nowhere.
Hate to be a broken record, yet I think if they'd stuck closer to the book, reaching the kids in Silo 17 would've played smoother and less (delay, delay, delay, reveal)
Hugh Howey did an AMA on reddit a couple of days ago and answered a few questions. (one was mine woo!) He did say episode 10 will diverge from the books again. he would not however tell me the name of episode 10. I think the reason we feel like it moved slow this season is all the different players in 18 had to have their plots play out before Juliette could finish her plotlines when they converge.
I like that you keep bringing up the books and all the discrepancies. I haven't read them so it's super interesting. But also isn't it a good thing that the show is different, so that even for the readers there's something to theorize aboutand stay hooked
I think the difference between season 1 and 2, is season 1 was a really cool multiple murder mystery, with an even bigger mystery of the Silo in the background, but season 2 is all build up to a revolution and Juliet returning, but the revolution never happens, and Juliet is still hanging out in a dead Silo. I think taking into the context of book readers, Juliet and Solo’s relationship is extraneous and confrontational, whereas in the book, they become close friends, so I think that’s why some people are disappointed.
Welcome back Catfish!! I give this episode 8/10 Triples S’s “simple simon sims”.. these kids in silo 17 have some beast archery skills.. I am also still on team Bernard! Is it just me or is anyone else annoyed with Walker? I enjoy rooting for Lukas this episode tossing his with around ! Can’t wait for the next one!
I did find it weird that they had Dr Nichols just chilling in the background in the Rebels movement. He was only in Mechanical to help with whatshisname, but it does make sense as he's a friend to Walker and he's had enough of the Silo
59:28 Please avoid sharing any details from the book of Oz. I specifically purchased it because of Silo, and I’m currently reading it with my daughter... In Europe, the book of Oz is relatively unknown and is said to be as widely recognized in the United States as the tales of the Brothers Grimm are in Europe, according to Wikipedia.
I had a tough time watching this episode cause, like Bubba, I keep anticipating or hoping for more action. Watching it again on Sunday I found it a lot more engaging which historically has always been the case with most episodes. One thing that keeps impressing me is the quality of the acting. Even the characters with small bit parts are well played and very emotive. I find myself looking up the actors to see their filmography and if I've seen them before in other projects. The cast is top shelf in my opinion. I have a feeling it is Teddy who is the snitch if it isn't Walker. In episode 2, Knox sends Coop to spy on Shirley and her little band of extremists for him. Walker follows Cooper and confronts the rebels and tries to talk some sense into them, violence is a losing strategy. During this sequence the camera focuses on Teddy several times. It's kind of like the distance shots of Juliette in silo 17, we are being shown something if we pay attention. His facial expressions are or could be a tell. Check out epi. 2, 38:20 to 41:30. Kathleen Billings and Camille Sims are two of the stronger characters in this series. Kathleen will help her husband fall on the side of the rebels and draw him out from under the law. I like idea that Camille Sims might be a "flamekeeper". It would help to explain a lot about her actions other than just power seeking or self preservation. If Mayor Jahns reveal of the sound track for the series is what we book readers think it is, the last two episodes are going to be epic. A lot of action and answers to get through though. I was thinking about waiting til the end of the season to rate each episode; putting them in some kind of order. But as I go back to watch different shows I always seem to come away with a much higher opinion of each one. Conundrum. Good to have you back Catfish. May events with your family continue to move in positive directions.
I do wonder if they've been giving Billings all this other stuff to do in the down deep with the page and all the other stuff so they can give his book moment to Sims. They are kind of in the opposite locations and as Judge he has the power to do it.
I think this was a triple C - Clever Catfish Cuestion - that I asked at some point. A couple episodes ago we joked that they would just continually pump it from soli 18 to Silo 17 to Silo 16, etc. until it comes all the way back around.
I give this episode 7/10 double D's - Doorstep Dismissals. How great was that response to Lucas knocking at Quinn's relative's door? I'm going to use that next time someone knocks on my door who I don't want to speak to. I agree season 1 was better than season 2 so far, like other people have mentioned we felt like we were building up to something big. I don't really know what we're building up to this season and the pace is just killing me. Great job as always guys! I'm just plodding through this season waiting for Severance season 2 to start.
Weirdly, I think the something big is the Salvador Quinn stuff. But it felt like it developed late in the season. When Bernard said something like "this could be worse than the rebellion.," I was like HUNH?
Welcome back Catfish! I think too many different story lines are running and the walker betrayal I think was not fantastic. Just feels like a forced/uncharacteristic of walker, and an unnecessary side quest. All the extra side quests make it feel rushed. Only two episodes left and still so much to do! For this I will give this a 5 sss… slippery side stories… I guess this is my ZT 2 cent Theory Time! 😂 Since we are expecting Solos story this episode, I am expecting to find out either Timmy is solo or the kids will bring her to Timmy. The blinding light used this episode was used in episode 1 this season….interesting… in the end, episode will end with Juliet getting her suit. The kids story being rushed, as I said earlier… Looking at the preview I am guessing that we will get the rest of the letter and Bernard will have the raiders clear a path to the down deep to find the tunnel, where the water is… That’s how the fighting/war will start, Maybe there will be a Knox/sSims fight and sim’s wife will talk to billings wife and that’s where we find out about Camille being a flame keeper, after seeing/finding the page billings saved… All this just a guess, as you said 90% of these storylines/side Quests are not in the book, so not a spoilers here! Best thing is even if you read the books, there is still a lot to keep us on our toes! So still one of my favorite shows on TV right now! Thanks for your videos, I look forward to them, hopefully Severance ones too! 😉
something completely of topic: Is this the first SF show where women have the best parts and strongest characters? I know that Bernard is one of the main characters and i can understand where he's coming from but he hasn't done much that's actually smart... the women are the ones that think outside the box and go for their plans
Episode 9 was rushed but great they caught some things up in Siloh 17. I think Eater does come with Juliette. I'm wondering if Lucas's mission leads to cleaning. Looking forward to a rushed but strong finish, love the Podcast.
Hey Bubba, you do NOT complain too much about the show. The whole point of a show discussion is critical thinking. Say what's on your mind unapologetically, that's what makes this sort of content interesting!
I do think season 1 was better than season 2. And maybe it is because I read the books between but I don’t think so. I really think the this season has not come across with a solid purpose. Yes we have the prepare for war, but it has seamed more like a prepare for war, but don’t worry war will maybe happen tomorrow type of preparation. They have not done well to convey the urgency.
you guys rate this episode a lot higher than any I've seen so far from perusing some youtube silo recaps and comments I rate thiis episode a 5 at the most ouf of 10...first of all for the DARK screens..silo 18 is dark but 17 it's even darker and I know it's pitch black in the book but this is effing TV? we don't need pitch black on TV ,..that's what we call Radio lol....also the pacing too slow and the way it was presented just a few secs each of Jules and too much Bernard. Ep 7 i feel was great but his ep was my least FAV of them all.
Bubba I'm in your camp due to PPP and EE - pointless and pacing problems and editing errors. S1 was better. this show could be great but it's just good. It shouldn't take 5 episodes to figure out the Quinn Code. It shouldn't take 8 episodes for a war- which still hasn't happened. Turning Walk into a snitch when we already have 'listeners' and snitches in the down deep. Pointless. That kiss recently- you know the one, pointless. 8 episodes of Jules fetch quest going no where.. still. like the code, that could be wrapped up in 2 or 3 epsiodes. we could have known/knew about other Silo 17 survivors since the begining but they didn't do anything with it. Jules getting shot, dropped, burned etc, sick, hungry- they need to explain her miraculous recovery this season... I did like Shirley adding Coops name to the wall, I liked the Billings family talk about the outside world. And the survivor illuminated from behind to jules- very creepy!! Rating 7/10- which bring this seasons average and overall rating to a 7/10 as well. It's good but not great and it could be great.. Welcome back catfish!!! good to see you both on screen
WHAT DID YOU THINK OF EPISODE 8?

Thank you!!!
wow. you're first video? welcome to YT...if that's what you mean I guess lol
The "Lord Of The Flies" was the first thing that came to mind as they revealed Juliette's Silo 17 assailants, were younger people.

So nice to see you back, Catfish! Bubba did y'all proud last week but you were missed. Hope everything resolves positively and in short order.
Thank you so much! I feel the love here and it all makes up for having to deal with bubba

100% - and those book readers are theorizing :)

Excellent analysis
I hope they improve the level in the last two episodes. "The series is good, but much less than the book." Thank you for this wonderful video. ❤❤❤
Thank you --- I'm hoping for the same in these last 2 episodes

The aeolian scale starts on the sixth note of the more typical major scale (Ionian). It has different intervals therefore and is a minor scale.

We will have to replace Matt's Musical Analysis with Rini's Rockin' Recap!

Oh man - I know too many spoilers from the original Baum Oz books!
the "Eolian Scale" could be referring to a pin that is given to musicians of worth in the book universe of The Kingkiller Chronicles?
The Aeolian scale has to do with where the scale starts on the typical major scale. It has a different minor sort of sound.
