I just want to let everyone know, very recently on the cam. Tom brought in a nice looking baby possum, for the chick. He stood there, as Angel fed their chick, and watched. I’m sure he’s gonna be a great dad with time and experience. I’m sure Lady Hawk will make a video on the first feeding. All of Angels hackling arguments seems to be paying off.
Scary situation!! 😨 I'm so glad I read Lady Hawk's description before I watched the video to learn that the little one was ok in the end. Lady sure gave Tom a big scolding! Thanks to the commenters who reported that he actually later brought food to the nest and watched Angel feed the chick! Feeling optimistic that he's catching on to reality now! TY Lady Hawk
Lady Hawk, I was a little nervous when Tom started scratching at the hatchling. And then started biting the chick, and tossing it by its head. I'm glad that Angel came back and the baby is ok. I'm not sure Tom is ready to be a dad. Until his instincts kick in. And becomes a good provider and loving dad to this beautiful eyas
My heart is pounding !! I don't think Tom is getting it. It was disturbing when he was pecking and being rough with Little Bit. Esp. when he tossed it up. Glad to see Mama back. I still don't feel good about Tom. Time will tell. Thanks LH !!!
He looks very, very confused:( Now I also understand the importance of all those videos (various other raptor nests) where 'dad meets his new chick' is >a thing
Well, this was a nail biter for sure. Mama got there just in time. I cant even fathom what hawk words were being spoken but I do hope he got the message loud and clear. If you watch as she continues to yell that both her and the little one were both looking right at him before he flew away. Her ending words could have possibly been get the heck out of here, go get some food and bring it back now!
Ughh, this was so intense to watch. Thank God Angel came back when she did!! Has the little one been fed yet? I 🙏 Angel finds a way to make Tom understand this is his baby and not prey.
My heart sinks into my stomach every time I check the live cam and the little one is alone especially after watching this video. Let’s pray for this nest!!!
This is all to be expected, as Tom is a very young hawk. I can't tell you how many first time raptor parents I've seen make critical mistakes. Letting fish flap around in the nest bowl, stepping on them, leaving them unattended, etc... It's so common that I'm actually surprised when it *doesn't* happen. Tom has no other way to learn these lessons. I was literally on edge expecting a poor reaction, and such was one. He did a great job here though, and we should focus on that. He didn't attack or show any signs of aggression and wasn't even that confused. He almost immediately went to sit down in the nest bowl and cover him/her, so I don't think Angel coming back when she did was relevant. Tom was aware of the new situation. I think he learned his lesson the first time. I see that as fascinating, albeit sad. I try to see the rawness of nature in a brighter light. They have a much better chance with just one chick too as a first time Dad. Everything happens for a reason. I'll keep watching even if it's hard because it makes similar events easier to swallow and humbles the soul as much as it hurts it.
I don’t speak red-tailed hawk but it sure seemed like Tom got a stern talking to about how to treat eyas ! Hopefully Tom takes it to heart and figures out his role as provider and protector. I’m praying for things to go well for this special family.💕🪶
Thank god that was a close one😯 praying our angel 😇🙏keeps baby hawklet safe. Lady Hawk do you think angel will bring in food to show tom this is what he is supposed to do?🫤 Bless this nest🙏 thanks LH for this nail biting moment all turned out ok!
Lest anyone was in doubt that Angel’s upset vocalizations were for Tom (nobody was in doubt though I imagine) they noticeably and abruptly stopped the precise second his talons left the branch to fly away. You can do it Tom, listen to your instincts and all your senses. This is your precious baby. ❤
So scary and thought he finally understood yesterday! I don’t think Tom is ready to be a dad. Time will tell but poor Angel is probably afraid to leave the nest now…Praying the chick 🐣 will be ok 🙏
Poor Hawklet..😢 poor Angel..😢 Thankfully Mom returned home just in time🙏🙏 and lil fluffy ball is ok🙏🙏🙏 Tom, turn on your parental instinct, please..🙏🙏 Hard to watch, yes...😢 Praying for this amazing Hawk family🙏🙏🙏 Talons crossed 🙏all will be ok🙏 Thank you, Lady Hawk🙏🙏
I hope that Tom will not hurt this 2nd little one Lady Hawk! I have been so concerned about this poor baby. Praying for safety and that Tom’s instincts will kick in and he will begin to fulfill his roll as a Loving Dad to his new offspring! 🙏🏻 He needs some lessons from M15 doesn’t he LH ❤
I feel like after what happened the first time he's learned but he's not very confident, I'm sure it'll click. He's got a seasoned mate so hopefully he'll get the hang of it.
awwwww❤ look at that precious little bobblehead..... I hope Tom now realizes the mistake he made with the first chick and is a good father to this one.... I am still very nervous, because kicking it in the head and pecking at the first chick before, and after he killed it😔.... she's giving him hell like a good mama❤
Intense moments indeed!😲 Thank the Good Lord that Angel returned when she did. None too soon either judging from Tom's actions. Hopefully, Angel got through to him loud and clear. (Her breathing seemed to be heavy and short, as if anxious. I know I was as I watched Tom.) I'm still fearful of Tom returning and Angel not being there to protect this hawklet of theirs until he realizes his role.🙏🤞 Thank you, Lady Hawk.😍 Thank you, W to W Cam.❤
Don t know ,,,,the folwing days will seal the future of this baby ,,,today Tom was confuse, agressive et, iwith the chic but mum arrives and after Tom brings food and was seing mum feeding her kid ,,,,hope that born in Tom some goods instints ,,,,but i fot now don t bet on anything ,,only hope for the best and for mum don t go farway from nest ,,,lets hope the best ❤❤❤
Oh, so this is what is meant by first clutches failing! I was worried when he came in hot and aggressive earlier, and picked at Angel. He could hear the chick under her and I think he's very confused. Angel is really taking him to school, which is probably upsetting as she's treating him like the threat he is. Tg his foot was more testing than defensive this time. He looked really afraid of it. Some of his picking was licking, I thought. So glad he started to brood it, but I guess feeling it move on his brood patch freaked him out and he jumped up. I really hope he calms down and accepts the chick fully, but that's not guaranteed. I watch because I'm learning more about raptors as I've not seen a first time parent. But I understand not being able to and I might not, either. But the chick is just so cute I love seeing it. Trying not to get attached. Yeah, sure.. Heartened by Tom's food deliveries.
Oh dear, I was yelling for Tom to LEAVE. That poor baby. This meeting does not leave me feeling good about the safety of this baby. He's already killed the 1st chick, hoping Angel stays on nest and sends Tom out for a;ll food runs. Geez!
He is, in his confusion of why there was a chick in the nest he killed it. It seems that something clicked in his head today cuz he didn’t kill the second chick, but instead tried to care for it with brooding and preening.
Eeks! 😳 Probably should have read through description first. But noted “Baby OK” in title so only chewed one nail. First time parenting can be tough. Thanks for great video. Loved watching chick look up towards the top of tree and sky. 💖
I'm wondering if there are any unnatural external goings-on that is making Tom nervous? In general, wildlife, when encroached upon in any way by unnatural outside forces, will behave in unusual ways.
At the end , Seemed like he was trying to preen the baby and then finally an awkward attempt to start to brood. Maybe he will catch on soon. Still not brought any food.
I came in in the middle of male poking at chick and had to leave, was so afraid of a repeat of first chick. So glad Mom returned in time. Wish she wouldn't be gone so long -- wonder if it's because male is not providing enough food and female needs to hunt for herself and chick?
The baby can live off of the yolk for almost 3 days like LH said in the description. She’s most likely eating for herself. Very recently Tom just brought in that looks like it could be a rat or a baby possum. So something is getting through to him to be bringing back food to the nest.
Dad clearly isn’t going to get “Father of the Year”. I think we can now see how the first one died, probably broken neck since Angel was able to separate its head from its body so easy 😢😢As for Tom, as he doesn’t bring food to the nest, Mom has to leave the nest to hunt, leaving the little one more than vulnerable. Scary days ahead. Angel really needs to figure this out fast. I wish Tom would get a clue but he got scolded after the first eaglet died and it didn’t do any good. 🙏🏻🦅🦅
😥💔😥 It was really hard watching this live. 😓💔😓 I nearly had a heart attack when Tom arrived at the nest and started manhandling his 2nd hawklet. I thought that he was going to kill the baby. But thank God Mom Angel arrived in time and he didn't kill her precious baby. 🙏🐣🙏 I'm sure Mom Angel saved her little angel's life. 💘 It was providential that she arrived at that moment!! God be praised for hearing our fervent prayers and not allowing Tom to kill this precious baby. 🙏🙏 I keep praying fervently for Mom Angel and her baby's safety. 🙏💞🙏 May God bless this family and watch over them. 🙏🌴💞🙏 I'm glad Tom has brought two prey to the nest so far. 💘 I think this could be a good sign. 🙏🙏 But I must confess that I still don't trust Tom being alone with his helpless baby. Many thanks for this update, Lady Hawk. I will keep watching over this precious tiny baby. Much love and blessings to you and yours. 🌺💙🙏🥰🥰💕🌴💗😓💕🙏
You are very courageous, dear Soul Sister. I know how tender and open your heart is, and your watching the nest live is an act of profound hope and love. My admiration and affection for you ever grows, my sister! I'm going to visit the albies a few more times to shore up my hope & courage, witnessing & sharing in their magnificent, magical spirits! Then I shall(may? might? will?) join you and other coursgeous friends at the live feed. Blessings, my friend❤
He’s already been alone with this baby twice. At 2:06 pm he came to the nest and all he did was look at it. Walked around it and took off to get those two possums that he brought in.
Is it normal for Red Tail hawk males to kill chicks? I’m used to Bald Eagles, where both parents are equally devoted to their chicks. EG. M15 from SW Eagle Cam, who has raised his eaglets by himself, since Harriet so tragically vanished, 3 months ago.
Tom is a first time dad and didn’t know the chick was his. He’s been with the eggs but a chick is entirely new to him. In his confusion of thinking it was food or an intruder, he killed it. But he’s doing better now. He’s already been with the second chick twice, second visit he just looked at it, walked around it and took off to get food. The two possums he brought in.
I was sitting here yelling at my screen WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? THAT'S YOUR BABY! I suspect that Angel was yelling the same thing followed by bring us some food you idiot! I hope he figures it out soon so that adorable baby can thrive.
My goodness you would think his instincts would kick in. I hope he leaves the chick alone and goes get good for it. I’m mad at him right now (I know that’s silly I’m just concerned)
Oh, I thought Tom was "cleaning" it like owls... I was watching an owl's nest, and the mama owl was preening its babies feathers. I hope he takes to fatherhood soon. Thanks for sharing your take, Lady Hawk!
Angel does that, too, cleaning and preening it, and I thought I saw Tom licking it at first, until he got scared again and grew more aggressive. I assumed the cleaning and preening of the chick was a hawk thing.
@@LemonLadyRecords So interesting! I thought only owls did it. LOL I am very new to watching this nest. I generally watch bald eagles, albatross, and an owl's nest in England. I hope Angel teaches Tom to be a good dad.
Definitely was preening but he was a bit rough. Chicks downy feathers aren’t like Toms feathers so he didn’t know how to properly preen it. Adults preen their feathers and will pull up on a feather during it. Which is why he ended up lifting up the chick.
This was shocking, and I watched the cam after I read the chat, knowing the chick was alive. I suggested they name it "Miracle"!! TYLH! 😻 Be blessed, everyone! 🙏😻🦅🤗💕
Hi CC I saw you in chat mention "miracle" I am holding off on using that word until we know that the chick is going to make it! I am hoping for the best but this is just too precarious at the moment! This is certainly a learning experience for Tom and an educational experience for the viewers watching the events unfold. I have seen a first time parent not know what to do and they lose their first clutch and also have seen a new parent be able to figure it out. ♥ Let's hope the latter will be the case here for our sweet Angel and baby!!
For sure this was a miracle! Waiting on naming it is the right thing. Already this little one is a real tough survivor. That is definitely a fitting name though. Lot's of prayers going this baby's way.
@@ladyhawk This is shocking that he never learned the first lesson and almost killed the second offspring - she obviously had chosen the wrong partner... If he doesn't bring prey, she will have to fly off herself, leaving the baby, and who knows what can happen.
@Lady Hawk 😰🤞🙏🙌🤲 Lady Hawk, since the E's are about to fledge for good, I started following this nest 🪺 oh my lord! 😳 the very first day the father killed the chick!!!!😱😰💔 and now this!!!! Well, let me go and check on SP! 🥰 for some peace and love ❤️ Thank you, Lady Hawk, you are the best! 🤝
@@ladyhawk Hi Lady Hawk 🤗 How about baby hope the hawklet for now😊 then miracle in a month or so? I'm hoping for the best for this adorable little babe 🥰 TYSM have a beautiful day LH take care and thanks for the updates 🙂♥️
Well I suppose, once he'll see Angel brooding the baby, he'll understand. Scary though. Incidentally, is it common for hawks to leave their bobblehead alone on the nest? I'm used to eagles and their shift change make more sense.
Yesterday, the chick was considered as an intruder .... Tom killed him. Today, he remembers the inert body and maybe, he does't understand why he is moving again .... the second chick has been mistreated, but not severely injured. I hope Dad will bring prey for his family
Well Lady Hawk, I was terrified for the baby eaglet and for Angel.. Was watching this unfold yesterday and kept talking to the TV, telling dad, this is your new baby, it’s ok… begging mom to hurry back, NOW!! Asking dad not to hurt his baby.. it turned out well.. great full mom got back when she did.. Dad will learn a lot from mom and his instincts, as time goes by.. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻.. I guess it’s my curiosity of why he did what he did? What did he actually see in front of him? Where’s the Hawk whisperer when ya need one …Wait!! It must be you LH? W/ your knowledge.👍🏻❤️. TY Lady Hawk 💖 / window to wildlife ❤️
He knows how to mate but obviously that's the only thing he can figure out....If the female can figure out how to take care of the chick that goes to show you how stupid the male species is...except for M15...lol Could you see Tom taking care of this chick if anything happened to Angel....God please protect the little one from Tom.❤🙏
I can’t believe I missed this video. I saw this clip somewhere else on YT actually. I was really mad at one point thinking I can’t believe this is happening again. Good god man. PLEASE Tom…learn now, observe, listen, growwwwwwwwww up now Tommy! 🙏🏻 There’s no way I can safely say if Angel didn’t come back, this baby would be alive. The way he lifted that chick, would’ve been done, if she didn’t show up. Some weird behaviors from Tom, maybe I’m just not privy to them, he seemed to want to bite the branch in the foreground and then went to the opposite side and nibbled on that branch too. Interesting. Then he tried brooding it randomly amid all his behaviors which nearly broke my heart.
This baby is the second hatched egg. Unfortunately Tom, being a new daddy kind of thought the 1st hatched eaglet was maybe pray and it did not live past his unsupervised visit. I say unsupervised because Angel was no there when he showed up.
See - this is just another thing I like and appreciate about you Lady Hawk! What am I writing about? FEELINGS. Your title says it all = "NAIL-BITER MOMENT" = indeed! I'm not going to watch this video bec I already saw it via the live-stream and once was enough. 🤣 I appreciate you writing about how it was very stressful to watch bec who knew what could happen - a repeat of the first born or no? So it WAS truly wonderful timing that Angel returned when she did. ~I find a bit too much policing going on in their live chat of people having what I consider NORMAL human feelings in response to what we saw. Some Mods there, rt along w/some viewers jump on anyone expressing their feelings/thoughts of horror, worry and concern. When people head butt over such it ALWAYS makes me think of the old movie "The Stepford Wives"! 🤣Like ONLY talk of pleasant things, pleasant thoughts, pleasant feelings. NO talk of anything "not happy" bec to them, it's "negative". Puh-leeze. If people have problems w/others having natural feelings - then those people need check their own selves bec it's THEIR issue, not the ones have NORMAL reactions to horrid things we may witness via these live cams. Unless someone is going over the top (which we've certainly seen) then let people have their feelings. When something happens, then people PROCESS what they just witnessed. We are not brick walls w/no feelings. "Normal" is actually what is normal to ea person. So if some can see horrific things and take it w/a grain of salt, chalking it up to "well, that's nature" and have no intense feelings about it? Well, that is fine. Just recognize please, that other people have their "normal" which may include having both emotional and intellectual responses to what we see. Live and let live... ~~The absolute beauty within our huge online bird watching community IS the fact that we have each other to share all with = the good, the bad and the ugly. We are there for each other - we can affirm ea other, we learn, we process and deal with it all - TOGETHER. That's the point of COMMUNITY. ~~~So yes, I appreciate YOU Lady Hawk for your wonderful thoughts AND feelings AND your acceptance of everyone else's. ~~~~Thank goodness this did not end in another tragedy for Tom and Angel - it's looking WAY more hopeful as he is learning what it means to be a Dad. I too have witnessed first time bird parents who flat out failed bec they simply didn't know yet what to do and how to be with the newly hatched in their care. Here's to hoping it keeps on going in a positive direction for Tom, Angel and their precious lil' newbie. At least there won't be any bonking going on! 😂😉Thanks Lady Hawk-friend! 🥰

@@DLionheart I’m so glad I read your comment. I was watching this live on May 1st and I left a comment in the live chat about Tom being a crappy dad and that I truly thought he was going to kill the 2nd chick if Angel hadn’t shown up in time. Oh. My. God. You’d think I had said something horrible about each of the moderators, their families, their religion, their politics and then topped it off by telling an obscene joke about each of their mothers. 🙄😂 I was immediately called a troll, then I was accused of being cruel. I tried to tell them I wasn’t being cruel, I was *upset*! It was so weird and off putting. If anyone makes even the slightest criticism of Tom or says anything even slightly negative they go scorched earth on you. I asked them why they couldn’t understand that I was upset seeing Tom treat the 2nd baby the same way. Their response was that they’d already seen the live footage and “dealt with it mentally “ so they didn’t want to hear it from anyone else. Very bizarre and totally unrealistic to watch nest cams and then sign up to be a moderator with a “nature is a Disney film” attitude and we all have to be positive 100% of the time no matter what’s actually happening in the nest. Mind blown. 🤯 I’ve never encountered that kind of attitude before with any of the other nest cams I watch and I don’t understand how it benefits anybody. I’ve since tried to comment there from time to time but aside from a few nice people I always encounter the same problem. Maybe part of the problem is these moderators have been there since the beginning when the nest cam first went up so they feel a kind of ownership of her. I know other people have felt ostracized too so I’m pretty sure I haven’t done anything wrong. Oh well, can’t win ‘em all. 🤷🏼♀️
@@silvermainecoons3269 Hi there! I'm thrilled you felt affirmed by what I had shared which is exactly why I do write about such things. I know there are others who relate and need to hear it's OKAY to have feelings, concerns regardless of those who shut others down. ~First let me back up and say Maine Coon Cats are my FAVE breed of kitty cat!!! 😍 ~~Back to topic at hand... I have endured such heinous attempted censorship of the expression of feelings at other cams - esp in Explore. Way too many Mods let the job go to their head or, are the kinds of people who ought never have positions of authority and yet? All too often do have such and they abuse the privilege. I finally got out of there bec the chat became way too toxic - not due the observers but rather the control freak Mods. Even writing to "higher ups", providing screen shots, etc., got nowhere, so I decided I'm so not supporting a place that is all about looking good and yet? Coddles a toxic environment of a "Stepford Wives" mentality. ~~~And yes, I completely hear you re that hawk cam chat, hence I don't go there anymore either. You are spot on in your assessment of what goes on in their chat. I've endured biting sarcasm from one Mod there who turns rt around and is sugary sweet to others. No thanks. I'm so not into phonies who pretend to be nice when actually, they are so not. And yes, I witnessed them putting gag orders on anyone who - gasp - had thoughts and feelings re the 1st chick getting killed, plus anyone w/concerns for the 2nd babe. They didn't allow others to have their own feelings, bec as you said, they had decided no one can talk about it anymore - including people who had JUST found out about it. Absurd. Events beget a PROCESS but they want to control it all. No thanks. ~~~~There was NOTHING wrong with what you had shared there. I, and lots of others, had also endured the very same in The Hellgate Osprey Cam re the male. Mods would shut down ANYONE who said anything they perceived as a slam against the male. I even suggested he might have another mate and oh my goodness! They pounced on me as if I had the plague! They lectured me and berated me bec HOW could I possibly think such a thing?! How absurd. And guess what? Turned out later, they DID discover he had another mate and another WHOLE FAMILY. 🤣 Did they ever apologize for attacking us? Heck no. ~~~~~The problem is people, period. We know there are patient Mods who affirm and then teach, with kindness. Then there are those who think they know everything, shut down anyone who dares disagree with them and who delight in their power. People vary in their emotional availability, so if one is shut down - they cannot relate with one who is open. They call such people fanatics or worry warts or drama queens and on and on. It's sad really, but it will always be the same re people. And this retort of "This isn't Disney" ALWAYS cracked me up! The Disney I know, and have my whole life, shows ALL = the good, the bad, the ugly! I've cried during MANY a Disney film so that argument is completely absurd! They'll tell people to stop watching live bird cams if "they can't take it" instead of realizing we are human beings WITH FEELINGS, HELLO? I'd much rather be me with my heart on my sleeve than to be some stoic person emotionally checked out, thank you very much. ~~~~~~~And, TYVM for sharing all that you did! Now 'tis I who feels affirmed and isn't that a wonderful thing to give to each other? I think so! Have a BIG hug from me, bec in my book - you're just fine! I myself don't watch stork's nest either 😕 I watch one a few years ago and never went back, they are the meanest birds, it stabbed his baby to death and tossed it off the nest 🪹😟 I never looked back that was it for me
I dont want to hear how "negative" I'm being, but I dont see things ending well for this baby. I was watching live when Tom killed the first one. I was really looking forward to watching beautiful Angel raise babies. But I know what's coming so I wont be checking in again...😢😢
Well since you aren’t going to check in anymore. Mine as well say it’s looking better. Tom had been with the chick alone again at 2:06 pm, just looked at it, walked around and took off. Then mom came back, then dad came back with a possum. Watched Angel feed the chick and left and brought back another possum.
I think Tom was feeling some jealousy because mama is giving all her attention to this little guy. That will change. He knew he being bad because he kept looking over his shoulders Glad baby is ok ♥️
I’ve watched a lot of nest cams over the years, but I swear this is the cutest chick I’ve ever seen. Hopefully Tom is starting to realize what his role is here. 😊❤🦅🪺🪶🪽🕊️
Read the description. It seems that is normal for first time parents not to recognize their own. They don’t know what to do 😢. Let’s hope Tom doesn’t kill baby #2. I didn’t even want to watch the other video. Too sad!!!!
Holy hell i wonder why he doesnt recognize its his chick? Dont they have some sort of way of knowing I mean heck him and the Momma have been there getting the chick to this point.
Am sorry but am just so frustrated with him, like he needs to get that the chick isn't food, Maybe it's for the best that i don't watch this nest because this is really upsetting me i understand that he is a first time parent but still like smh he should be able to recognize that this is his chick lucky mom came in.
We think he should recognize it’s his chick. But he’s seen them most of the time as eggs, he got used to seeing the eggs and sitting on them. Then suddenly they aren’t eggs anymore, but chicks that come out of no where and there was no Angel insight. These first time meetings would have gone over better if Angel would wait for Tom to be on the nest so he could be properly introduced to them that way. If he saw that Angel was brooding them then he’d understand that the first one wasn’t food or an intruder. He still wouldn’t be the perfect dad and would be a bit rough with them like he did when he was preening the second chick but the meeting with the first one could have gone over better than it did.
Tom you stubby tailed red tail what is wrong with you?!? This is your baby too. Be kind to it. Don't make me come over there and give you a what for.😡 He didn't bring food he came to eat his chick and Angel's. Angel please come home quickly! Thank you Angel. Do me a favor and give him a big shove out of the nest for tormenting your chick. Maybe he will get the idea to feed you both. You shouldn't be leaving the nest with him around plus your beautiful coloring makes your life more dangerous.
Welp Tom just brought in another possum baby!
I hope he ends up being a good parent. This is scary.

Lady Hawk, I was a little nervous when Tom started scratching at the hatchling. And then started biting the chick, and tossing it by its head. I'm glad that Angel came back and the baby is ok. I don’t speak red-tailed hawk but it sure seemed like Tom got a stern talking to about how to treat eyas ! Hopefully Tom takes it to heart and figures out his role as provider and protector. I’m praying for things to go well for this special family.💕🪶
Dad needs to get a clue!! Such cute baby, such a beautiful mama 💖
Man, she was giving Dad what for! I had to turn down my tv, lol
Praying too 🙏
Thank god that was a close one😯 praying our angel 😇🙏keeps baby hawklet safe. Lady Hawk do you think angel will bring in food to show tom this is what he is supposed to do?🫤 Bless this nest🙏 thanks LH for this nail biting moment all turned out ok!
Hi Deanna Tom will instinctively bring prey - he is doing a great job now!!
🤞👍
So scary and thought he finally understood yesterday! I don’t think Tom is ready to be a dad. Time will tell but poor Angel is probably afraid to leave the nest now…Praying the chick 🐣 will be ok 🙏
Poor Hawklet..😢 poor Angel..😢 Thankfully Mom returned home just in time🙏🙏 and lil fluffy ball is ok🙏🙏🙏 Tom, turn on your parental instinct, please..🙏🙏 Hard to watch, yes...😢 Praying for this amazing Hawk family🙏🙏🙏 Talons crossed 🙏all will be ok🙏
Thank you, Lady Hawk🙏🙏
I don't think he has any yet....😔
I hope that Tom will not hurt this 2nd little one Lady Hawk! I have been so concerned about this poor baby. Praying for safety and that Tom’s instincts will kick in and he will begin to fulfill his roll as a Loving Dad to his new offspring! 🙏🏻 He needs some lessons from M15 doesn’t he LH ❤
Oh my, he's so cute with those big dark eyes checking out the big world.
Talons crossed 🤣😂😅 That was something! Well said...
I feel like after what happened the first time he's learned but he's not very confident, I'm sure it'll click.
He's got a seasoned mate so hopefully he'll get the hang of it.
He is so beautiful and sweet.
Thanks a lot !
awwwww❤ look at that precious little bobblehead..... I hope Tom now realizes the mistake he made with the first chick and is a good father to this one.... I am still very nervous, because kicking it in the head and pecking at the first chick before, and after he killed it😔.... she's giving him hell like a good mama❤
Come on Tom...
I sure hope he becomes a quick study!
Nail biting moments for sure Lady Hawk! 😳
My heart is in my neck. 😮 Please let this chick be safe. 👃
Lol, we're all gonna drop every time we get a video update. I was literally holding my breath until I realized, "Wait, I'm not breathing". 😂

It sounds like she’s yelling at him.?
If he brought food, she could stay on the nest
She should be! Even if he brought food. I'd bite him for clawing at his baby and Angel's.
Tom is a serial killer and Angel doesn't know it yet. 😊
😮 Hope Dad gets it, that it is his offspring and brings food. Thought he'd get it from the first time.
Tom understood his father's role .... he just brought baby opossum 👍😃2:51:30 pm
She need to stay close to the baby 🙏🏻🙏🏻
😨😳😯😥
He will/must learning. Maybe not this saison, but the next..
🤞😶🙏🏼🐦🦅💚
Geez!
Gosh I’ve read the comment and can’t bring myself to watch the video I hope and pray dad will get his act together poor baby 😞😞
I couldn’t watch it either. I always read the descriptions first so I learned what happened to baby #1 and I didn’t want to watch the video 😢
Is this natural behavior for the dad? It broke my heart.poor Angel. I’m glad he’s okay. ❤
He is a young hawk and never been a father. Hopefully he learns his role soon. If not, maybe next year. Nature can be hard to watch.
He is, in his confusion of why there was a chick in the nest he killed it. It seems that something clicked in his head today cuz he didn’t kill the second chick, but instead tried to care for it with brooding and preening.
@@kips8156 I believe him watching Angle feed the chick may have been a turning point. Tomorrow may tell. Fingers crossed.
Cute little warm fuzzy bobblehead!
Ohhh I just read Tom did kill the first chick … so sad , praying this one will make it 🥲❤️
wow.....a clueless male, put his talons and beak on his own, unbelievable.
Eeks! 😳 Probably should have read through description first. But noted “Baby OK” in title so only chewed one nail. First time parenting can be tough. Thanks for great video. Loved watching chick look up towards the top of tree and sky. 💖
Come on Tom. Get your act together and bring back food.
He just brought in a rat or baby possum on the live cam
I thought he was going to eat the other one..glad mom came back..but no food
I'm wondering if there are any unnatural external goings-on that is making Tom nervous? In general, wildlife, when encroached upon in any way by unnatural outside forces, will behave in unusual ways.
Poor widdle guy 😞 Daddy will figure it out with the help of Mom ! 👍❤️
At the end , Seemed like he was trying to preen the baby and then finally an awkward attempt to start to brood. Maybe he will catch on soon. Still not brought any food.
He just brought in a rat or baby possum to the nest on the Live cam
La naturaleza es así simplemente; nos cuesta entender estos comportamientos 😌
Quê el hermoso bebe este a salvo 😍🐣☺️🙏🏻
Wow! He really needs to learn how to be a Dad! Hope little one survives and Dad learns by watching Angel. 🙏
Praying 🙏 for Tom to realize it’s his baby
It's the Jerry springer show😊
I came in in the middle of male poking at chick and had to leave, was so afraid of a repeat of first chick.
Thankfully, he did bring food some time right after this, and the baby was fed.
Walked around it and took off to get those two possums that he brought in.
awww so tiny *smiles* 🤍❤🤍
Is it normal for Red Tail hawk males to kill chicks? I’m used to Bald Eagles, where both parents are equally devoted to their chicks. EG. M15 from SW Eagle Cam, who has raised his eaglets by himself, since Harriet so tragically vanished, 3 months ago.
It seems that Tom is first time dad. He doesn’t know what to do 😢.
Definitely a nail biter, Lady Hawk. Whewwww!
I was sitting here yelling at my screen WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? THAT'S YOUR BABY! I suspect that Angel was yelling the same thing followed by bring us some food you idiot! I hope he figures it out soon so that adorable baby can thrive.
Very interesting Thank you
My goodness you would think his instincts would kick in.
@@kips8156 Oh, that makes sense! Thank you for letting me know!
Ok maybe Tom is just not ready I'm a bit concerned for this little one
This was shocking, and I watched the cam after I read the chat, knowing the chick was alive.
I suggested they name it "Miracle"!!
TYLH! 😻
Be blessed, everyone!
@Lady Hawk 😰🤞🙏🙌🤲
Lady Hawk, since the E's are about to fledge for good, I started following this nest 🪺 oh my lord! 😳 the very first day the father killed the chick!!!!😱😰💔 and now this!!!!
Well, let me go and check on SP!

Did he hurt the chick .
Omg I’m horrified 😱😱
Well I suppose, once he'll see Angel brooding the baby, he'll understand. Scary though.
Incidentally, is it common for hawks to leave their bobblehead alone on the nest? I'm used to eagles and their shift change make more sense.
The problem here is that Tom is a first time dad. He doesn’t know what to do 😢
Yesterday, the chick was considered as an intruder .... Tom killed him. Today, he remembers the inert body and maybe, he does't understand why he is moving again .... the second chick has been mistreated, but not severely injured. I hope Dad will bring prey for his family
His behavior is so mixed and odd. Kicking it, preening it, sitting on it, picking it up and dropping it. 🤔😕
I know right? I’m starting to think he’s brain damaged!
I think if Angel did not arrive in time Tom would kill the chick the chick is still in danger
💖💖💖💖💖
Didn't the 2nd egg hatch? Poor baby so glad Angel came back fairly quick! ❤🙏
This baby is the second hatched egg. Unfortunately Tom, being a new daddy kind of thought the 1st hatched eaglet was maybe pray and it did not live past his unsupervised visit. I say unsupervised because Angel was no there when he showed up.
This is the second chick to hatch. Tom killed the first one a day after it was born.
This is the second baby. The first was killed by its father a couple of days ago.
That really was scary. People in chat were distressed. Hope he understands and brings food.
No, he didn't read the chat. 🤣
~~~So yes, I appreciate YOU Lady Hawk for your wonderful thoughts AND feelings AND your acceptance of everyone else's.
~~~~Thank goodness this did not end in another tragedy for Tom and Angel - it's looking WAY more hopeful as he is learning what it means to be a Dad. I too have witnessed first time bird parents who flat out failed bec they simply didn't know yet what to do and how to be with the newly hatched in their care. Here's to hoping it keeps on going in a positive direction for Tom, Angel and their precious lil' newbie. At least there won't be any bonking going on! 😂😉Thanks Lady Hawk-friend! 🥰

I was immediately called a troll, then I was accused of being cruel. Mind blown. 🤯
I’ve never encountered that kind of attitude before with any of the other nest cams I watch and I don’t understand how it benefits anybody.
~~Back to topic at hand...
~~~And yes, I completely hear you re that hawk cam chat, hence I don't go there anymore either. You are spot on in your assessment of what goes on in their chat. I've endured biting sarcasm from one Mod there who turns rt around and is sugary sweet to others. No thanks. I'm so not into phonies who pretend to be nice when actually, they are so not. And yes, I witnessed them putting gag orders on anyone who - gasp - had thoughts and feelings re the 1st chick getting killed, plus anyone w/concerns for the 2nd babe. They didn't allow others to have their own feelings, bec as you said, they had decided no one can talk about it anymore - including people who had JUST found out about it. Absurd. Events beget a PROCESS but they want to control it all. No thanks.
~~~~There was NOTHING wrong with what you had shared there. I, and lots of others, had also endured the very same in The Hellgate Osprey Cam re the male. Mods would shut down ANYONE who said anything they perceived as a slam against the male. I even suggested he might have another mate and oh my goodness! They pounced on me as if I had the plague! They lectured me and berated me bec HOW could I possibly think such a thing?! How absurd. And guess what? Turned out later, they DID discover he had another mate and another WHOLE FAMILY. 🤣 Did they ever apologize for attacking us? Heck no.
~~~~~The problem is people, period. We know there are patient Mods who affirm and then teach, with kindness. Then there are those who think they know everything, shut down anyone who dares disagree with them and who delight in their power. People vary in their emotional availability, so if one is shut down - they cannot relate with one who is open. They call such people fanatics or worry warts or drama queens and on and on. It's sad really, but it will always be the same re people. And this retort of "This isn't Disney" ALWAYS cracked me up! The Disney I know, and have my whole life, shows ALL = the good, the bad, the ugly! I've cried during MANY a Disney film so that argument is completely absurd! They'll tell people to stop watching live bird cams if "they can't take it" instead of realizing we are human beings WITH FEELINGS, HELLO? I'd much rather be me with my heart on my sleeve than to be some stoic person emotionally checked out, thank you very much.
~~~~~~~And, TYVM for sharing all that you did! Now 'tis I who feels affirmed and isn't that a wonderful thing to give to each other? I think so! Have a BIG hug from me, bec in my book - you're just fine! Keep watching, keep sharing, keep feeling and keep being YOU! 🥰
