You know why? Because in Spain we do not have 3 or 4 firearms per inhabitant and it is not a danger that 2 million people come together to celebrate things because we are a safe country and a safe country is not the one that allows its inhabitants to have all the weapons that they want but the one that protects their citizens. One of the things I loved about Spain was they really know how to celebrate things as communities, everyone together having a great time, doing something (like building a huge papermache statue and burning/blowing it up!) that would seem crazy in another country :-)!
Never a dull moment in Spain, day or night. They know how to enjoy life and family . Glad you could experience it first hand , very easy to get used to late nights promenading and sitting for hours at the cafe's.
Thanks from Spain. However spanish are also normal people and we all have problems aswell, you know, relationships, job issues with the boss, traffic fights, and that kind of "normal" things aside of the festivities :P
This planet and its people is such an awesome place. The reason one should travel is to experience these cultures and customs and embrace them. Thank you Nick and Terysa for this, stunning. Bryan from Vancouver
Bryan, you just said the best advice to anyone. One thing I could add to your brilliant sentences, it is that traveling and knowing people and culture, you will be happier in life and that comes from a past depressive and bitter person like me.
Wonderful storytelling.. you not only captured the event itself and your emotional reactions, but also captured so vividly the way the locals view and experience the festival for themselves. Thank you.
I'm sure you can tell the difference, but the Go Pro and Phone video looked just fine. Thanks for the long day you put in to get all that. We get to see the fun parts - not the standing in line parts. I've put Valencia in my list of places I'd love to go. The city looks absolutely gorgeous. Again - thanks for all your hard work.
Very nice video and I am really sorry you couldn't see the burning. It has happened sometimes, if the weather conditions are adverse, they don't burn them because it becomes a safety risk (they are planned to burn in a certain way and under certain conditions, so it's safe for the public and the surrondings. We take safety very seriously). Being myself form Valencia and living in Seville, that is, after my family, one of the things I miss the most. And this year....well....no Fallas at all. :(. Nice vlog, you got a new follower. Take care and safe travels!
For Valencians like me these are magical nights, all gathered the week of Fallas to laugh, dance and meet by the fire to celebrate with family and friends. I'm glad you liked it and you had such a good time, you have the doors of Valencia open for people as kind as you !! Greetings from Valencia!
If you ever visit Valencia again and you need a tour guide who speaks english just message me. Loved the way you portrayed my city and it would be a pleasure to show you what else Valencia's got to offer. Cheers guys!
Living here in Valencia for 12 years, did plenty of Fallas - never had any kind of security issues! Great video and I hope you also had some Buñuelos as well - will be looking for them in the video!
What an amazing event! Beautiful video. You guys are such a pleasure to watch. Really happy we found you via the Wynns. Cheers from our travels to yours!
Wow that festival was amazing! I guess it was Mardi Gras without the nudity. Lol Those hand made statues were amazing and then burned to ashes. Unreal. Really enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing your adventurous travels with us. It seems traveling there with a canteen of water may be a great idea in case of spontaneous combustion.
Quite the festival! I hope the statues were not made of styrofoam like the New Orleans floats as that would be a stinky mess to burn. I can imagine e nick sitting still for 1-1/2hrs to wait for a show. But I guess he did. Great video guys. Cheers Warren
I'm from Valencia and the best fallas to see are : falla de antiga campanar, falla de la plaza del Pilar, falla de convento de Jerusalén, falla de la calle sueca, falla literato Azorín, and la falla del Ayuntamiento
You'd be in pyromania heaven. There's also fireworks for several nights leading up to the final Burning, but they take place after midnight in the old town, and frankly we weren't up to it 😆
And this is the most impressive Mascletá I ever seen...... (I'm from Valencia and Mascletas are my favourite things in fallas)..... Really impressive.... I was there th-cam.com/video/lGf5ePo0ABQ/w-d-xo.html
Amazing festival in a beautiful city! I'm sad they burn down those incredible statues, but I guess it makes sense. Otherwise they would just accumulate over time.
How strong was the cinnamon flavor in the candy apple ? Lov'um when they have a little "heat" in them, cuts the sugar. We all leave the forward hatch open at the worst times. Recall closing but not latching the v-berth hatch while leaving the dock. Short time later wind picked up, heading up-wind, chop & wind continued to increase, dropped off a wave and on the way down watched the hatch pop up, the spring then opened it fully and as the bow nosed into the wave I watch the water pour into the hatch.
Looks like a hell of a party. Even if it was up and down the experience for you must have been incredible. And a little bit of water doesn't hurt except for maybe the bed getting wet. Nick you always seem to be eating. What was on the apple? Keep smiling and sail on.
thanks for sharing - what lovely falluses but looks bleeding dangerous! Whatever happened to Elf & Safety? Reminds me of the old Guy Fawkes night but with something worth burning.
Seen a handheld GPS hanging in the boat and you could have taken it with you and set a waypoint where you parked the bikes,..I use mine for getting back to a spot or marking great spots all the time. Oh, I see. I once did that : Went into town in Valencia - from England - after reading in `"Rough Guide" to Spain` that Las Fallas de Valencia is probably the most riotous Festival in the whole of the country. I had absolutely no idea..... Double `l` in Spanish, ie `ll` is pronounced as a `y.` Therefore a word such as fallas spoken by a Spaniard would sound to a speaker of English as `fayas.` The `y` as in `yellow.` The lass at c 0:19 was pretty much on the money.
Hey N&T another great video , looking to stay in Valencia next season what’s the marina and cost like . As you cruise further west it would be good to hear your thoughts on particular marinas , anchorages costs etc really helps us understand cruising costs . I’m sure you would agree that untill you get further east(Greece) there will be a lot more marinas rather than anchorages increasing your cruising costs , be interested if you agree with this ? Thanks D

As internet savvy people I would have expected you could have researched the festival more - a shame you visited without knowledge of 'what is going on' - the program is widely published !. Also your opening statements about it 'being an issue' having your camera with you is very unfair. I have visited Fallas eleven times since 2007 and with common sense, security is NOT an issue anymore than it would be in your own home town. The reason the Fallas you were waiting to be burned was late is usually the Bomberos (firemen) need to be present ay the larger Fallas to protect the surrounding buildings and as there are over 300 Fallas all over the city the burnings go on into the early hours as the Bomberos move around attending them.
May I use some footage of this for a project I am showing as a class project? I will credit your channel at the end of my video but I won't be releasing it anywhere aside from during the class presentation.
BTW, for those who watch for new posts using RSS from TH-cam, there was something like a 25 minute delay between this appearing as a video and being posted on RSS. Odd. Not N and T's fault.
