    They say a small standing army. That small standing army defeated Italy. Typical European ignorance.

    • @NadavHbr
      @NadavHbr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The titles are surely ignorant and even racist - but what defeated Italy in Adwa was not a standing army, but the mobilization of the whole country. Ethiopia's standing army in 1942 was small, but in the 1950's it grew and became the biggest in Africa

    • @MesfinJ
      @MesfinJ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      False, majority fought the Italians. The bandas were numbered and known as "city dwellers" or cowards by the fighters. The grand father of Meles Zenawi, Shumbash Asres was one and unique in his total obedience to his Italian Masters. But almost all Ethiopians including Eritreans revolted the Italian aggression of Abyssinians.

    • @willactually7509
      @willactually7509 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@MesfinJ I know you would like to believe it but it is important to face up to the truth. There were only about 25 000 Arbegnoch fighting with the Allies and their quality as fighting men was doubtful. They showed loyalty to no-one and would kill anyone in their way - even their benefactors, but of course they were portrayed in the media of the time to be brave heroes. The propaganda of the war years created the images that Ethiopians cling to, perpetuated by successive governments.
      By comparison, South Africans in the conflict numbered more than 27 000, and this small army liberated Addis Ababa on April 6, 1941. They only lost 150 but killed or captured over 50 000 Italian (mostly colonial) troops.

    Fun Fact: Addis Ababa was already Abandoned by the retreating Italians and Ethiopian Forces actually reached the city first, but the British feared that the Ethiopian Forces would carry out revenge attacks against the Italian Civilians living their at the time, so they convinced Halie Selassie to not enter the city until the British can enter there "first" (not really at this point), to maintain law and order (as if Africans cant do it themselves, but sure, whatever), but what ended up happening is mostly British/South African White Soldiers committing Sexual Aggression against some White Italian Women.

    • @jimbobjones9119
      @jimbobjones9119 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, it is true that the the British feared acts of barbarism against the Italian civilians and asked for the Italian colonial police to stay on and maintain law and order. The rest you have all wrong and proves your anti-white racist notions. Addis Ababa was liberated on 6th April 1941 while Haile Selassie was still in exile (I think in London) and he only returned to Addis on May 5th 1941 after security was ensured. B.t.w. the South Africans entered the capital first - there is a Pathe video on TH-cam which shows that.There is no proof of "British/South African White Soldiers committing Sexual Aggression against some White Italian Women.
      " The "Ethiopian Forces" you speak of were nothing more than warlords and bandits and were responsible for many atrocities committed against Italian civilians as well as there own people. There were in fact more Ethiopians and /or Abyssinians fighting on the side of the Italians than against them.
      Of course your history doesn't say that - all white washed to make them appear as heroes. Your history also does not admit that slavery was only finally abolished after the occupation by Commonwealth forces - you have White South African to thank for that!
