Her entire album gave me such Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill vibes and I am absolutely enthralled! The musicality is just next level; the lyrics and how she plays with words to paint such vivid imagery is seriously top-tier. I sometimes pause on tracks that seem too much to handle in terms of its visual because I get taken aback by how vulnerable she has made herself in this album. This makes "My 21st Century Blues" hard to listen to. But this also makes it such an amazing album. I can't rate it enough; it's SO GOOD!

I'm a big fan of both Raye and Amy Winehouse and it never occurred to me that Raye would be the perfect person to play Amy in a film. Her singing has great range and her voice has some similarities to Amy's cadence..as well as some of her physical features, similar body language and mannerisms..it's crazy good 😮💕

The song 100% made me more suicidal than I already was at the time but oh well. It helped me feel the feelings I needed to. It's such a bombastic, fake-confident song that's ultimately really intimate and sad. Also I LOOOOVE how RAYE said what I was thinking the whole time, about the song being basically a movie in lyrical form! It really is!!! Welp. It's been about a year and a half since I made this comment and I gotta say: I really wish I had prayed that I'd never have to relate to it. But now I do. So that's cool. The love of my life broke up with me a month ago because he's going through a mental health crisis and can't feel any love for me and wants to be alone. The man I was willing to walk on water for is gone, and I have absolutely nothing. I feel so broken and this song has yet again come back into my life to make my pain so much worse. The song is absolutely beautiful. I first heard it when I clicked on a recommended video. It happened to be the music video. The song 100% made me more suicidal than I already was at the time but oh well. It helped me feel the feelings I needed to. It's such a bombastic, fake-confident song that's ultimately really intimate and sad. Also I LOOOOVE how RAYE said what I was thinking the whole time, about the song being basically a movie in lyrical form! It really is!!! And I love it for that!!!! ♥♥♥ It truly tells a story from start to finish. It's VERY rare that a song latches onto me as hard as that. Thank you so much RAYE for making Escapism.!!!
Welp. It's been about a year and a half since I made this comment and I gotta say: I really wish I had prayed that I'd never have to relate to it. But now I do. So that's cool. The love of my life broke up with me a month ago because he's going through a mental health crisis and can't feel any love for me and wants to be alone. The man I was willing to walk on water for is gone, and I have absolutely nothing. I feel so broken and this song has yet again come back into my life to make my pain so much worse. But maybe it's supposed to.
So enjoyable to hear the process and context! The song is so cinematic already, this really added to it. Love her 🥲
