- Dinnerladies (stylised in lowercase as dinnerladies) is a British sitcom created, written and co-produced by Victoria Wood. Two series were broadcast on BBC One from 1998 to 2000, with 16 episodes in total. The programme is repeated on Gold, and the complete series was released on DVD in November 2004.

ME three, laughed throughout and had to reverse several parts to see again laughing even, "harder", lol! What an great episode, just wish comedy now whether from UK or USA was a tenth as good as Victoria created here, as all in series 1& 2!!! Bravo Victoria as your talent lives on and on with your passing way to soon!

Say what you will about Anita, she's incredible mother; she put her baby where she knew he would be found and for someone she knew would look after him, but then in the end her motherly instinct kicked and and she took him back.
Also, in terms of time line, her son would be, as of this post, approaching his 24th birthday :)

Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"

Love this episode but didn't understand what Victoria wS trying to represent. All the girls are kind, especially Brenda so her contempt for Christine seemed out of character.
Yes Brenda was defending Anita and the baby...plus a new person should just be calm and non judgemental on their first day !! The actress playing her was superb...given great lines .. her comments and judgmental attitude I've seen in some people I've worked with... in some jobs...!!
The woman was a werewolf posing as a powderpuff! I've known some passive-aggressive, destructive people who pretended to be peace/love/hippie types. It's a vicious & clever tactic against decent people, who largely decline to contradict with them with the truth - because it isn't nice. Necessary. But not nice.
Well, in teacher mode I'll just throw it back to you. Look at Christine, what she says and how see interacts with the others and tell us why you think Brenda might be this way. Is she angry about things Christine has said about her or about the other ladies?
@@hensonlaura I'm just watching this and yes Christine did act like your pretend "nice" person but I think she had a secret shallow side to her! She took dollys mug because she liked/wanted it saying 'there are no mugs on the other side' when dolly wanted it back and christine wanted to take it home I'll bet and she deliberately got staffs beverages mixed up because the staff didn't like her making snide remarks as Dolly said. I think the viagra joke was very funny and the funniest joke in the entire series tbh. Christine probably never showered or did have flatulence problems?

5:00 to set an alarm and she got there late should have a shower Christine you got you got bad hygiene to have a shower and wash your hair and clean your teeth and that's personal hygiene is deodorant that's a high-class kitchen so clean I know it's eco-friendly to go then you can buy eco-friendly and yeah have a shower it's on hygienic or have a shower when you get and have a hot shower and put your stuff in a washing machine to get rid of that whatever smell your carrying around with you personal hygiene shower wash your hair look presentable you do not work in a kite room kitchen smiling whatever the smile she's got you got to wash your hair and look presentable in Tony's kitchen is the kitchen assistant and you can tell you what's good and what's not good you've got to have personal hygiene
