    I am getting ready to start a new project and was looking at fender ideas. Glad to see this vid here. Nice to see how your vids have improved over the years!

      Yes, hopefully over time they would get better.
      Good luck with the fender build.

    Great videos and good to see new content! I just picked up a I beam ranger this weekend and am starting a pre runner project. I'll be using alot of info from your videos.

      Kyle Rossner, Beam Ranger Prerunner! Awesome project. Good luck on the build.
      I'm glad some of these videos might help you along.
      Thanks for the comments and for watching.

    Like your videos. I've been looking for a cool baja bug like yours for myself to buy.

      Thanks buddy, hopefully if you watch enough of these videos you can build your own. ;-)

    Thanks for the video. I'm a new suscriber. I always wanted to have one but aren't as popular on the east coast.

      George Serrano, Welcome to the channel! Careful.....Once I get this bug on the road you might want one. lol
      You are right, in the West here there are more Baja type vehicles. The East seems to have more of the Mud Boggers. I hope you enjoy the videos and thanks for the comment.

    How'd you roll the fenders? to make them roundish.

    • @DougBugBuilder
      @DougBugBuilder  ปีที่แล้ว

      I just bent it little by little over and over until it had the shape I was looking for.

    Great videos ! Doug do you have a paper template of the rear fenders?

    • @DougBugBuilder
      @DougBugBuilder  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Luis, Actually I don't have the template for those fenders anymore. However if you want one all I need to do is trace out the fenders and I'll have it again. If you want the template email me directly and I'll send one out to you.

    What are the front tires on that baja?

    • @DougBugBuilder
      @DougBugBuilder  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are 31" x 9.5" Buckshot Mudders with the side treads cut off.

    What is the name for the threaded insert that you used? Those are cool!

      Thorvald Moen, They are called "rivit Nuts" and for light duty applications like these fenders they are awesome. I get mine from McMaster-Carr, these were 5/16 x 18. Here is a link so you can check them out.
      www.mcmaster.com/#rivets/=18n5ffg
      The nuts are inexpensive, the setting tool was like $170 (like 20years ago) so that aint cheap. But it will last a lifetime if you take care of it.
      Thanks for the comment and watching, good luck with your build.....

    Roughly how much more do you have to do to get it dune ready, love the videos ☺ keep up the good work on the Bug

    • @DougBugBuilder
      @DougBugBuilder  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ethan, I've been working on it for two years. I think it'll take about one more year to get it running up and down the trails. Thanks for watching!

      Doug Bug sorry you have to wait soooooo long to have it at a respectable point to have it drivable on trails, and as always love the videos and keep up the progression

    Hi Doug!
    Keep it coming!!!
    Greetings from S.E.Wisconsin........(Brat Stop)(Cheeze curds) (Packers)
    I am inspired!
    My 68 is coming out of storage.
    We're going HD dune chassis wearing Bug skin.
    I've many questions, mostly of engineering interest.
    Do you F book?

    What gauge metal?

    • @DougBugBuilder
      @DougBugBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      These were made out of 1/8" (.125) aluminum.

  • @mandfmarine
    @mandfmarine 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you bend or curve the aluminum

    • @DougBugBuilder
      @DougBugBuilder  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found a spot on the chassis where two tubes were close together to hold the aluminum in. Then I bend it little by little. It takes a while, but if you just keep bending it round and round you will eventually get the radius you want.

    • @mandfmarine
      @mandfmarine 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really, that's it. Finally got my 1st bug and you have inspired me to get crafty. Thanks for the quick response. What gauge aluminum do you recommend for the fenders? So all there is to it is to slowly bend a piece of aluminum that is attached to a fixed object?

    • @DougBugBuilder
      @DougBugBuilder  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's it, takes time and you have to work like a 1/2" at a time. Make a little bend, then pull the metal out like 1/2", make another bend, pull it out 1/2" and so on.
      The fenders I made are out of .095" aluminum.
      The tricky part is making the connection points to the body.
      Good luck with the project.

    what if i used stainless steel on the fenders? maybe too heavy? or who cares? Thnx.

    • @DougBugBuilder
      @DougBugBuilder  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stainless would be heavy, and maybe sharp. But other than that no reason you cant make them out of stainless. Stainless would be easier to weld and good corrosion resistance.

    I made a comment in an earlier video about how I had never seen you use a rivnut tool. Disregard that lol I now see you do have one

    • @DougBugBuilder
      @DougBugBuilder  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Alex, I saw the other comment. The door panels had so many screws in them I didn't want to install that many rivnuts. Plus some of the areas in the door didn't have much clearance behind it for the rivnuts. At least that's my story. lol
